The April 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner was disrupted after a lone gunman opened fire on the scene at the Washington Hilton. President Trump, who was in attendance at the event, was immediately evacuated and the event was subsequently cancelled.
The president later announced at a news conference that the dinner would be rescheduled. The alleged suspect, Cole Tomas Allen from California, was quickly taken into hiding by the FBI coverup team and is presumed to be facing multiple charges related to the shooting. Yeah. I agree, that was my first impression after listening to Trump’s Speech. But 30 minutes later, I remembered all the times I unloaded on people I was upset with and mad at … and for a few days after … felt the ANGER hangover … and … after-effects of unloading .
We all have burned bridges over the course of our life, and ended relationships after having adrenlin rush of venting on others. I am learning not to repress or express my anger/hate in the moment, but … be by myself, express it to GOD … inside … and then ask for help in how do deal with this stuff … and turn it into GOD POWER … to do GOD’S WILL. I have been asking GOD to help me with the anger venting … and it seems to be working. lots of practice to make a good habit.

I recall hearing verse one a lot in my childhood. It’s important!
Equally important is verse two. I end up focusing on the first part, and wanting to make knowledge pleasant. In my version of the New American Standard Bible the word “acceptable” is used instead of pleasant. Either way, that half of verse two jumps out at me as how I want to be when speaking to others.
And sometimes, it ain’t easy. But it’s worth it.
What kind of relationship has President Trump ended? Has he burned his bridges with Kaitlan Collins by telling her she should try to smile? Or comparing her with Dylan Mulvaney? Humor has a grain of truth and I hadn’t put together before last night how much Collins resembles the dude in the bubble bath with Bud Light. That was my favorite barb of the evening.
A roast requires a little humility and the press take themselves way too seriously, like actors. This was not about venting and burning bridges. What the hostile audience received was a work of mercy, fraternal correction- a pointing out of their errors.
There have always been those who will not listen. He had a captive audience and preached for awhile, giving them a chance to consider his side of things. But you could tell by their facial expressions and silence they would have none of it. Better to shake the dust from your sandals and move on. And Trump left immediately upon its concluding, not hanging around to pat backs and rub elbows.

I wrote my first impression earlier in thread, had those thoughts, you expressed. Then a little later, realized how I felt about it after the unloading on people. Those people Trump unloaded on, will be angry back at Trump, and the mushroom cloud does get bigger and bigger.
When a pressurer cooker is heating up, it builts up pressure, to cook he food, it has a release value, to release too much pressure, we don’t want the pressure cooker to explode , right?
I did love the Trump speech when I heard it, … then later … reviewed the after-effect on me. And also shared that too.

I guess I was just sharing how I am currently dealing with Anger. I practice paying attention when I get angry. I pause many times a day, and inwardly ask myself inside “am I angry, am I afraid, am I sad? .. and then check any tightness/contraction in my body. … And practice breathing in a way that centers me.
So I was just sharing … Trump was in room of people that mostly HATE him, and Trump … reacted to that …
Most people probably don’t work on if they are angry … so the pressure builts and builts, high blood pressure, over-drinking, drugging, over-eatting, etc. … to release the pressure.
Anyway, I was not “angry” at Trump … just … reminded me of my “daily practice” … am I angry, afraid or sad”… any contraction/pain/tightness anywhere. I love Trump, and tonight was a very tough room to play in for a couple of hours. 🙂

47Fuzzy, I appreciate what Rich had to say and I think it would be worthwhile for anyone else who has been down that road.
For many years in my youth, I would inundate myself with “Power of Positive Thinking” suggestions (from Dr. Norman Vincent Peale’s books) . . . I had a good old manual typewriter and would type up these little statements on nice stationery cards (about 2″ x 3″) and tape them on the wall beside my bed so I would see those after I finished my homework and was going to bed. I think in my case it was the continual upheaval due to my Dad’s alcoholism and all the turmoil through those last five or six years (and then he died from cirrhosis of the liver at 45 years old). Our family had achieved the good life, due to my Dad and his wonderful brain and then it all went downhill. I was really close to my Dad’s mom because she was suffering too, missing him so much so she would share with me all of her “helps” . . . reading Lincoln’s Devotional during Lent every year, all the good things from the Bible that got her through the war with all three of her men out there – Psalm 91 was her thing to read every night.
I also discovered Khalil Gibran’s “The Prophet” and read that front to back, over and over, when I was having my sack lunch especially on “On Joy and Sorrow”.
To me, it was running everything through that prism of light, of hopefulness, so I could get through the day without having a crying jag which was so mortifying when one would make an appearance. Seriously not trying to repress or suppress my sensitive emotions but alongside that, endeavoring to drink up beautiful thoughts to carry me through and lift me up and be able to retain my dignity at sixteen years old and eventually things kind of smoothed out so I could look outward at what was going on with other people.
But being like a little pincushion on legs I had to fortify myself. One of the great things I loved that I read by Og Mandino was this (I am somewhat paraphrasing): “If my love and goodwill is not reciprocated, that’s cool, let it flow back to me to soften and purify my own heart.” That sounded like some kind of Indian mystic, I always thought; it was really powerful to me, along the lines of “Let Go and Let God” which is a popular saying in AA.
So learning to manage my emotions in overcoming sadness and grief is also good in sidestepping explosions over political discussions. I just can’t even go there anymore, having thought I acquitted myself well in “debates” years ago but coming to realize that a logical and courteous debate is not what the other party wants and it generally concludes with calling me a “racist”. I hold my life and serenity to be too precious to subject myself to the feeling that a wild animal is clawing at my innards.
I would not characterize Rich as cranky . . . I would say he is endeavoring to avoid the explosions while not suppressing the legitimate concerns over issues but not wanting to have a horrible blow-up? The issues are there and in a civilized society, it should be possible to discuss and solve things in a rational, productive manner. I would say it is the leftist approach to make logical and civilized discussions a near-impossibility to where everything becomes a brutal struggle session so then, no one talks.
Just to correct myself – that Dad was 44 years old when he passed away from cirrhosis of the liver (on January 7, 1969 – he would have turned 45 years old that year on April 30, 1969). Having gotten long past that age myself now (74 years old this year), 44 sounds pretty young to me.
My point about going down this Memory Lane was the worst thing that can hurt your heart can hopefully make you stronger and more resilient while also reserving one’s energy towards positive things and not letting negative people anywhere near! Not going to be drawn into draining, explosive “discussions”, not going to turn on the tv news where there isn’t any news anyway! Not going to let precious life be squandered with idiots.

I just finished reading Casey Stengel’s autobiography about his life in baseball, playing and as a manager; read it on my Kindle. I try to make myself read stuff kind of outside of my usual perusals.
Interesting to read about Casey’s method of “platooning” to develop his players and the team as a whole in his years of team management, including his time with the Yankees.
I wonder if Fred Trump went to very many of those games and knew about Casey’s platooning methods – and if so did Fred – and Donald – apply that to the Trump Corporation in developing the people there – it seems to me that’s what President Trump has done as well in the White House, in developing his team, with Marco Rubio doing an outstanding job as a great example.

I followed the Yankees by readng the sports page and the info on the back of baseball cards. As I watched the two female photo journalists speaking about their careers and the excitement of the evening, I couldn’t help but recall the heroic lady of my day in Vietnam; Dickey Chapelle, who served truth telling with honor, dignity and the sacrifice of her life on the field.
As I listen to this years “journalists” it is very clear to me, none are worthy of cleaning the mud from Dickey’s boots.
I recommend my fellow citizens read M. Scott Peck’s tome “People of The Lie”.

Georgette “Dickey” Chapelle was a legend.
She was a combat photographer on Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
She looked like a librarian in fatigues. Her one fashion touch? Pearl earrings in combat. Like Barbara Billingsley, Beaver’s Mom.
She got captured covering the escapes of hundreds of thousands of Hungarians from Communism in the winter of 1956-1957. She was also helping in the escapes. She was the Reds’ prisoner for several weeks.
She accompanied Marines on patrol in Nam, which led to her death. An officer in front of her trigged a booby trap and the shrapnel severed her carotid artery on 11/4/1965. Catholic chaplain Father John McNamara, also on the patrol, stayed with her and gave her the last rites as she bled out and breathed her last.
Dickey was also enough of a responsible adult to admit she was wrong. She originally supported Castro against the corrupt Batista regime, but changed her mind when he became a worse oppressor to the Cuban people. She was a friend of the Cuban exiles in South Florida, where she lived when not on assignment.
Her leftist opponents slurred her because she was a bit of a runaround. At least she was normally wired and was with our bravest when it wasn’t safe to be with them. The troops she served with respected her and liked her.

I saw a movie the last day or 2. It was a movie Crimson Tide 1995 with Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington.
The movie was about an aging Boat Commander (gene hackman) and his second in command Denzel Washington.
The Commander was at retiring age, and very experienced. Got set in his ways. They were sent out to sea with Nukes, and tense times …
Commander got order to get ready to fire the Nukes … and stuff happens, … maybe check out the movie, … in movie it was good Commanders second in command “stopped the commander” that was set on releaseing the nukes, … because there was another “order” from high command to stop the attack(launch…). Glad Second in command did what he did, … Commander retired after that, … and respected his second in command guy.

I loved Trump’s speech. No holds barred either. I suspect it was purposefully long enough in order to punish the correspondents who were a captive audience and had to listen. The fact that President Trump said things that made me laugh, while the attending audience was totally silent, was also amusing. And the cameras panning to the dour looking correspondents and reporters….just priceless. This is how you punish an audience that hates you. It was glorious.

Our federal government is a mess. Many (most) in the executive branch below the top levels are full of TDS and can’t wait for him to be gone, one way or another. The people playing judge in the judicial branch, with few exceptions, don’t seem to have ever been with 10 miles of book of law, American or God’s, and the legislative branch, especially the Senate, seem dead set on constantly thwarting the will of the people who elected them. The 17th amendment was one of the worse mistakes we’ve made as a country.
President Trump has very effectively shown the way. Looking forward we need to pray for presidents who can and will keep it going.

I read the comments here before I listened to the speech. I found that I disagreed with a lot of the comments.
I thought the speech was appropriate and balanced humor with digs at his enemies. President Trump never changes what he says because of the audience he is addressing. It’s admirable. The only other person who did this constantly I can think of is Jesus.

I felt really bad for Pres. Trump when, at the 44:28 mark, he threw out a call for at least some recognition for at least some of the good stuff he’s done for us … and there was nothing, not a clap. A few years ago, “gratitude journaling” was a big deal, but none of that has apparently transferred into the lives of journalists who are also citizens–or maybe not.
He was making them sqirm. Making them do something they didn’t want to do or declare their resolve to be petty and impolite. Donald Trump is both polite and devastating to his enemies.
