Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett and Elena Kagan appeared on Capitol Hill to request a ten percent increase in Supreme Court budget spending. The intent is to hire additional security to protect themselves from the outcome of their rulings.
Justice Barrett talked about the harrowing threats to herself and her family as the Court wants to bolster security. The overall appearance before congress is slightly ironic considering the increase in threats is a direct consequence of court rulings that have opened borders, blocked deportation, stalled law enforcement, granted illegal aliens rights to citizenship and generally undermined our nation’s domestic tranquility.
Sorry, but my opinion on the matter has adjusted to new information. The Supreme Court should have to live in the reality of the world they judicially create. No additional public security should be afforded. They have a security detail that supersedes any security level a taxpaying American citizen might be afforded.
No expanded security details should be afforded to government employees, just to avoid the consequences of their ideology.
Mrs Barrett and her family can carry self-defense firearms, wear protective vests and worry about their security in the parking lot of the local supermarket just like we do. Not to be obtuse, but the Constitution equally applies.
Is it possible certain justices have ruled the way they have (e.g. ACB) because of the threats? Like could that be being used as blackmail? I’m positing its threats -> ruling as opposed to ruling -> threats. Just a thought

As soon as I read the headline my first reaction was that maybe now they would appreciate the world the rest of us have to live in from day to day, those of us who don’t have special security squads guarding us around the clock.
Our Constitution is one of the greatest founding documents any country has ever produced, and our Founders were clearly inspired by God to produce such a document. But the one point of challenge I’ve always had was the lifetime tenure for federal judges. I’ve always thought a flat 16 years and out would have been better – it preserves them from political influence but is not so long that it insulates them from the effects of their decisions.. It was originally envisioned that congressmen would come into office, serve a few terms, then return to private life within the environment created by their legislative efforts. That was smart and certainly those early legislators couldn’t have seriously imagined a future where their successors would specifically exempt themselves from the demands of the legislation they were pushing onto the rest of the country. That would create an insulated class of citizen removed from the effects of its actions. And yet, it happened.
In the same way, the Supreme Court, that branch believed to be the “weakest” of the three, could not have been imagined to become the anti-republican monster that it has, overturning historical precedent and substituting its limited wisdom for the consensus of the people’s representatives. And yet, shielded from the effects of its actions by having government-assigned security, among other perks, at taxpayer expense, even after retirement, this court under Roberts, and like-minded predecessors, continues to slash and burn a path through republican self-government without restraint.
As Sundance suggests here, the justices would rule more wisely if not insulated from the effects of their decisions, the birthright decision being the latest catastrophic example. Creating magnets for millions of undocumented people from all over the world, including the dregs of other nations, to crash our borders is asking for more Laiken Riley’s. And despite what justice Barrett relates here, it’s a situation none of her kids is likely to have to face. But the other kids, of others parents, who don’t have round the clock security, might not be as fortunate.
You have sown the wind, justice Barrett, and if our Founders were here to observe your “originalism” in action, they might proclaim that you have reaped the whirlwind, and deservedly so.
I vote “no” to more outlays to these insulated justices. They can hire their own security. [With all due apologies to Thomas and Alito, who are both worth every dime we can outlay on their behalf.]

Those former prior FISA judges will not be allowed to perform their official duties until such time the investigation concludes or trials end, whichever happens last.
