The professionally Republican have been pretending to have 20-minute discussions with Senator Mitch McConnell in an effort to keep the Democrat governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear, from appointing a replacement.
Beshear has now openly began to challenge the assertions of the professionally Republican team and demand proof of life and capability or he will replace McConnell.
WASHINGTON DC – Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said he is willing to launch a legal challenge to allow him to choose Mitch McConnell’s replacement if the senator cannot return to office.
Beshear, a Democrat, told MS NOW’s Politics Nation host Rev. Al Sharpton on Sunday that he “might make some news right here” while revealing the potential options he has as governor to replace the 84-year-old, whose health has been the subject of intense speculation for weeks.
[…] there is a Kentucky constitutional provision that says that I appoint all state officers when there’s a vacancy,” he added. “The question is, does that apply to federal offices? Well, before there was ever a law in Kentucky on how this would work, multiple appointments were made by governors, assumably under that provision.” (read more)

Here’s a wild idea. If Beshear chooses to appoint someone, Thune could declare a recess until the courts settle all issues except to gather to pass the Save Act.
The Senate has been refusing to declare a recess in order to prevent Pres. Trump from making recess appointments. To declare a recess or not? What will Thine do?
The Senate just has to keep abusing their power don’t they…
He’ll do whatever is right for himself.
You’re assuming that Thune wants the SAVE act passed. He doesn’t.

Hmm… Would that be like what the Democrats did wrt Biden for four years?
Does anyone remember the congresswoman who missed quite a bit of time but her staff was keeping things running so it wasn’t noticed right away? It turned out that she was in a memory care facility.
oh, that was in the state I just escaped!
You “escaped” Texas.
Seriously??
That would be Dianne Feinstein – California.
And Dianne Feinstein who asked what her votes were and strom Thurmond who was wheeled in on a gurney to vote.
Ted Kennedy, John McStain, and Arlen Specter were all out for months getting cancer treatment
Tim Johnson of South Dakota was out 8 months
Mark Kirk was out a year
Carter Glass was out for YEARS
Ben Lujan out for months
Karl Mundt was out for 3 YEARS
It was Kay Granger (R- TX). The one who was absent from Congress that I couldn’t remember her name.
Memory care anyone?
A state’s constitution saying a Governor can “appoint all state officers when there’s a vacancy” does not mean he can replace a national office vacancy, no matter how much the dems want to play with words.
Just did a quick search for the Kentucky statute that speaks to appointments, and although I do not use AI it automatically popped up an answer at the top of my screen that read, “Kentucky law no longer allows the governor to appoint an interim U.S. senator if a vacancy occurs; a 2024 law requires Senate vacancies to be filled through a special election instead.”
Hhhhhmmm, if there is a law specifically stating the gubner can’t appoint an interim senator, then someone needs to give little Andy a heads-up on his state’s laws.
Kentucky House Bill 622.
Lil’ Andy cannot fill the appointment of a Senator.
https://reason.com/volokh/2024/04/25/the-kentucky-legislature-removed-the-governors-power-to-temporarily-appoint-a-senator/
What a horse’s @$$! Let’s see if he backtracks.
100% correct. Andy is aware of this law, so why is he so antsy?
My guess is he thinks that because Governor McMaster was able to appoint someone to Lindsey Graham’s seat he should be able to appoint someone to Mitch McConnell’s seat.
He’s just too stupid to recognize that the two situations are worlds apart.
Lindsey died and it was announced. Is Mitch dead? Is Mitch alive? Lil’ Andy might want to know what’s really going on before looking for Mitch’s replacement, and then brush up on a law that the ink is barely dry on before making any proclamations.
Also, McMaster followed SC laws. The Kentucky law is different.
He will try, he says the KY constitution calls for him to appoint, so if he does it will go to the Ky Supreme.
In other news:
The Washington (com)Post says their analysis of the actual photo provide by his staff shows no evidence of
ai in the photo. It being the Post I don’t see a motive for them to lie to support Mitches story. It would not be the first time a Senator or Congressman has disappeared for a while.
Imo, he is still with us.
The Kentucky Constitution calls for him to appoint “state” officers, but not federal officers, of which Mitch is one.
In 2024 the Kentucky Constitution was changed to say that their Governor does NOT have the authority to appoint someone to fill a vacant federal senate seat, so Andy is only blowing smoke at the demons.
The Post would protect the Turtle’s story. He has stymied Trump everywhere and is a democrat.
When has the word “can’t” ever stoped a Dem… they see that as a challenge.
Tell Gov Beshear, “Mitch is as sharp as he’s ever been.”
If that was good enough for the Dems for the whole duration of the Biden administration, it’ll be good enough to November.
Wasn’t representative Kean missing for several months due to cancer treatments from Kentucky? Gov Beshear wasn’t so keen then, was he? (Was that McKean?)
Kean was NJ.
Gov. Covid is always politicing.
It is completely unconscionable for the “autopen-ready” handlers behind Mitch to continue to LIE to the public. Even to the point of distributing now-discredited photographs. (Did they seriously think they could get away with it, in this hyper-connected digital age? Seriously?)
They want to cast votes. They must not be allowed to do it.
My sister lived in Kentucky and He’s hear is a RINO!!!
According to recent Beltway precedent, the expiration date on brain deadness is 3-4 years.
My mistake. …on Democratic brain deadness.
Republican Kay Granger served out her term for 5 months after taking her final vote in July 2024.
My search concerning mental health issues and UniParty came up blank. 😉
this is another example of a long serving Senator killing the bench. There is no back up plan on who can run to replace.
Andy Barr is running and will likely win.
He has been endorsed by McConnell, so…..
Under Kentucky’s 2024 succession law (House Bill 622), if Mitch McConnell’s Senate seat becomes vacant before August 3, 2026, Governor Andy Beshear is required to call a special election to fill the remainder of the term.
This law removed the governor’s previous power to appoint an interim replacement, mandating an expedited election process instead.
Is Mr. Beshear full of shear?
He’s not wrong. Just apply the same standard to every zombie in government
According to the Washington Post.
Which is also fake.
He and Biden are on Rehoboth Beach, working on diaper tan lines. Biden’s wife is a Doctor and McConnell’s wife is the daughter of a communist ship builder who is an expert on transportation.
If Thune wanted to prevent KY Democrat Governor from appointing an interim replacement for McConnell all he would need to do is threaten the Dems by saying he’ll pass the Save Act instead of blocking it. Democrats are deathly afraid of the Save Act because they know large numbers of illegal non citizens are voting and almost all for Democrats. But Thune won’t do that because his big globalist donors don’t want the Save Act.
Andy Beshear looks like he could be James Talarico’s father. Either could be on the cover of MAD Magazine.
Beshear should have done this a long time ago!
Beshear is Gavin Newsom without the hair gel.
Worse than Gruesom, he convinced so many Republicans to vote for him.
14 day Andy wants to appoint himself to MM’s seat. That way he can go to DC and fundraise for his Presidential run. He also gets to see his moron of a Lt Gov become Gov and run as the incumbent for either the special election or next election cycle.
Funny… The dem governor wants to abort a senator.
I don’t mind the governor insisting on McConnell’s proof of life just to answer the question and stop the farce. As far as appointing someone to replace Mitch, the gov is just BS’ing. He knows he cannot get away with it, but hey, it sounds good.
Beshear can’t win because the 17th amendment gave the power to state legislatures to decide who can appoint. Ky legislature wins this one.
Here’s the latest: Elaine Chao, Mitch’s wife, just got back from China! She found her husband basking in the sun, “acting like a hatchling!” She brought him his favorite food: a large jar of sinking and floating food pellets and mealworms! Mitch kept snapping, “I’m not an endangered species!” Elaine massaged his leatherback to comfort him. She then helped him put on his favorite turtleneck sweater, and Mitch began exploring his environment with interest.
An advantage to Mitch being out is he will not get to vote against the Save Act.
It just doesn’t matter who replaces McConnell.
Would a democrat appointment be so bad? At least you know in advance what they think and do. Sneaky turtle Mitch was a Republican/Democrat hologram; what you saw and heard from him was as ephemeral as an highway heat mirage. Nothing solid all squish.
Yes it would be bad, since a McConnel ouster would mean we give up control of the appropriations committee and a seat in a narrowly divided Senate. Pragmatism sucks, but its part of politics as our President is well aware.
He will appoint himself.
