Lindsay Graham controlled the money that runs the republican political machine in SC. He just won his primary in SC. His current term expires in January. Now the republicans will have to hold a special election to pick a successor to run against the democrat nominee. For the first time in decades, SC has a chance to elect a conservative US senator. I’ll be curious to see who Henry McMaster picks as an interim senator, but it will probably be Pam Everett.

I think the aftermath of this will be a learning experience for some people. For years I have seen republicans in particular decry that if we could only get (random politician A) out of office, things would be better. Then (Random politician A) gets out of office, and we get B who is either worse, or just as bad, but it takes at least two years to prove it to everybody. We knew the dirt on Lindsey Graham, whoever replaces him will be just as bad but we won’t know all the dirt on yet.
The reason he kept winning election in SC (I live locally) wasn’t because everybody wanted him to be their elected leader, it’s because of the entrenched system that keeps guys like him in power. That same system will replace him with a similar character.
It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t vote and it doesn’t mean things can’t get better, it just means playing revolving chairs with corrupt politicians is not the solution. The solution in my opinion, often involves using the dirt you have on the corrupt politicians and finding a way to hold their feet to the fire. President Trump understands this, and it’s why he’s buddy buddy with these snakes. He knew all the dirt on Lindsey and knew the most effective way to use him.
We’re going through the same with Thune right now. Oh if we could only get rid of Thune, we have to get rid of Thune. As soon as he’s gone, the same people will be saying Oh if we could only get rid of Thune’s replacement. It wastes years instead of finding ways to use the losers we have until a primary comes along.

Sort of mixed feelings on this one. While he was a warmonger for some reason President Trump always endorsed him. Not a know a lot about his voting in the senate, he did seem for the most part to stand with President Trump.
