Retired Magistrate here: As a lifelong Ohio resident, DeWine is one of the worst governors we have ever had. When covid hit he locked down Ohio; he was just as bad as the Blue State Governors. Amy Action who is running on the Democrat ticket for Governor, and whom I am sure DeWine will endorse, was Dr. Death for Ohio. She stated that thousands of people in Ohio would die of Covid and she and DeWine were on TV everyday giving the daily death count; hence Dr. Death.
DeWine might want the Haitians here but the people of Springfield Ohio want them gone. I knew a lot of them had relocated elsewhere but I had no idea there were that many left. The lady who cuts my hair has relatives in Springfield and many of the people were forced out of their apartments due to the sky high rents that building owners were getting from Haitians because several families would move in together and each family would pay rent. It is interesting that DeWine says the Haitians are buying houses because many of the citizens of Springfield can’t afford them; must be all the government assistance the Haitians are getting from the people who can’t afford the houses but are paying taxes so the Haitians can.
Thankfully the Ohio Legislature has kept a pretty good handle on DeWine who is on his way out and now wants to abolish the death penalty because it doesn’t work. The republican legislature is ignoring him so that will probably not go anywhere.

Back in the 1980’s Dick Celeste was governor and I headed up the State of Ohio Insurance Fraud Division. Our unit uncovered a mortgage fraud scheme perpetrated by Jack and Janet Nemechek of Abstract and Title in Cleveland, Ohio. During our investigation we discovered ATF, the Postal Service and FBI were also investigating the case. After several years of hard work, convictions and prison terms for the Nemecheks. However, on his last day as governor, Governor Celeste pardoned the Nemecheks and they were released from prison because Celeste didn’t think white collar crime was that big of a deal.
It was very disheartening for those of us who did the heavy lifting; so Ohio has a history of governors who hurt the people of Ohio on their way out the door.

In 2010 a catastrophic earthquake hit Port-au-Prince, Haiti. 300K+ died and 1.5M were displaced. USA gave TPS status to hundreds of thousands of Haitians and the majority (IIRC) relocated to Florida.
When he referenced so many Haitians are doctors, I hope people realize they probably went to medical school in the Caribbean and I refuse to go to a doctor from any country who received their med degree outside of the USA. REFUSE.

I have no problem with Haitians staying here if they have a job. Just as long as they are not collecting any government benefits. I read somewhere that 70-80% of immigrants (legal and illegal) are collecting some sort of state/federal benefit. We can’t afford the money being spent on citizens.
