I previously saw an interesting discussion with NVIDEA Jensen Haung where in the context of AI he was asked: who is the smartest person you ever met?
Jensen Haung paused for quite a few moments thinking about the question before he answered.
Haung then redefined the word “smart.”
‘Smart’ is a word we have historically used in reference to ‘intelligence’. If a person was intelligent, we say that person is smart. However, in this era of AI at your fingertips, we must break this connection.
Intelligence, the assembly of knowledge about a particular matter of discussion, is no longer limited to educational or real-life training or study by people who focus intensely on subject material.
All of the knowing about a system, any system, process, history or discussion topic is now available almost instantly to anyone in this era of artificial intelligence.
The NVIDEA CEO then continued, therefore, once we break our historic reference connecting ‘intelligence’ and the generalized term ‘smart’, we can properly address the question you present.
Who is the smart man? Or, in the context of the originating question, “who is the smartest person?”
With this baseline established, Jensen Haung then outlined the traits of the smartest person. The smartest person is not the person with the greatest knowledge; the smart individual is the person who can tune into the frequency of the universal moment, look at the human reality of what is factually taking place that has not yet become an input into the AI capture record, and then predict the material outcome – the destination of knowledge that has not yet arrived.
Essentially, Haung explains the smart person is alone, tuning themselves into the vibration that is the consequence of human activity, financial interests, geopolitical movement, social transformation, economic shifts and cultural modifications. Then, positioning their interests at the place in the future where they predict all the activity will arrive.
The accuracy of prediction, or predictive positioning, then determines the scale of smart. The more accurate a person is under this perspective, the smarter they are.
I agree with this perspective.
All of human knowledge is now being assembled into AI databases for exploration by anyone with a keen interest or stake in the subject matter. Knowledge is no longer the valuation of ‘smart.’ The ability to predict the next step, phase or moment is the smart attribute.
With this context, we can now look back over the past few decades, not looking for the most intelligent voice, but rather looking at the accuracy of current position, contrast with the outline from the voices who make the predictions.
This interview about the ramifications of cultural change in Europe was given in 2010, sixteen years ago, centered on a book written by Mark Steyn and the context within the questioning is looking forward over a period of about 20 years.
Remember, this is 2010, written before the “arab spring, long before Brexit, well before President Donald Trump and the MAGA agenda as policy and before the U.K churned through seven prime ministers’ in a decade.
Remarkably, Steyn discusses/predicts what would happen if Islam tried to reform; if the U.S. pulled NATO resources out of Germany; if the U.K doesn’t radically alter direction and much more.
Watch the discussion or put the interview on play while listening to it in the background as you go about your tasks. Remind yourself at moments throughout the roughly 30 minutes, that the interview took place fifteen years ago.
Mark Steyn, a writer, political commentator, and friend of the Treehouse outlines his 2010 prediction about the destination of the Western world during a discussion with Peter Robinson.

CTH has no financial association with any of this; I just find it super interesting, because my research folder is growing increasingly large with material behind a hemispheric shift. {TWEET}

I’ve thought that people of exceptional deductive reasoning, critical thinking and logic are the smartest. Less about raw knowledge and instead of application of reason on the body of knowledge. Savvy
I absolutely agree. Assembling a bunch of knowledge about a subject is only a beginning, and how the information is handled or mishandled beyond that point is a huge part of being intelligent or not. There are “smart” people, indeed valedictorians, who are mere learners and reciters, but these people are not exercising intelligence, merely memory and reproduction, together with a degree of cooperation that makes them popular with teachers. Critical thinkers, challengers, and verifiers, such as Albert Einstein and the many yet few who actually question, imagine, invent, and improve, rather than comply, are not so popular with most teachers, because most teachers are not Socrates; they are reciters. “Dish back to your prof what your prof dishes you. Though you doubt what he says, what he says must be true. But never commit the unpardonable sin of allowing an idea of your own to creep in.”
Steyn wrote “American Alone” in 2004. He was far ahead of everyone else on this issue.
Thomas sowell and the late walter williams were 100% free traders.
When Trump emerged and spoke of the stripping of american production to other countries, and the laying off of american workers after they trained their foriegn replacements ETC., that was a result of Free Trade policies supported by Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams.
They did not support Donald Trump.
Donald Trump was making me think about my alignment with media Conservatives. I coresponded with Walter Williams. Didnt trump have an agument to be considered given the results of decades of Free Trade.?
He never budged.
Please recal the way things were and reflect back on it with what we know now!
What do you think when you see conservatives written up nicely in magazines and on TV expressing there views on the most popular tv shows without interuption. Even given there own shows on PBS?
How did we learn that Thomas Sowell, walter Williams, Milton Freidman, william f. buckley even existed!!!
Buckley had the longest running show on PBS!
He was Skull & Bones! As were his other family members. So many of his activist liberal guests were skull & Bones.
He was CIA!
His boss and dear friend was E. howard Hunt!
He introduced Sowell and Williams to his audience many many times!
Milton Friedman got a 10 part PBS documentary Free to Choose promoting free trade and featuring thomas Sowell and walter Williams.
Milton Friedman gets on the Phil Donahue Show does the whole show!!!
Today we would suspect and write these folks off.
I consumed everything put out by all those above mentioned in this post …. Plus Hayek (London School of economics).
And these folks were approved by the establishment Elite Globalists, they set us up for a fall.
If they were conservatives and America First, MAGA, they would not have been all over the tv and had newspaper columns, and had books promoted and given lifetime contra t in Sowells case, at the Hoover institute.
Sowell and willkams did not support Trump. See National review.
Mark Steyn is a real conservative and he has paid a hea y price for it!!!!
Mark single handily exposed the Climate Hoax. He paid a heavy price in legal fees and angst but the truth finally won. Hide the Decline.
Thank you,,,good output from your end and no AI needed. Have seen most of what you mentioned with those names as well. Have also seen some MAGA out there with strong support for Sowell and Williams. Breaking the grip ain’t easy sometimes. Prayers and following Gods will every day. 🙏🏽
Canadian Mark Steyn. Fixed it.
My daughter and a nephew are using AI in their jobs. As it stands AI makes smart people smarter quicker and much more productive. A boss of one used it to make a training deck…….He was a VP and what I call a “coaster”… The training tool was terrible. My daughter’s training deck was great marketing, could be made into an ad. It took her 5 minutes to coach the AI and in the old days I would have paid an ad agency 10,000 to 20,000 dollars.
My point Smart people will be incredibly more productive and effective.
You make an excellent point about AI not really lifting the less smart into the more smart, but it will definitely lift the more smart into the morer smarterer.
Pragmatic geniuses drag the entire species forward and I love to see it.
Huge fan of AI and what it is doing. It’s a tool. Humans use it as humans do. Hammer in one hand is not the same as a hammer in the hand of another.
Smartest person in the room is the most compassionate. One of loves true forms, along with joy.
AI is pattern recognition, and it seems unlikely it will make the kind of breakthroughs the human mind/heart is capable of. Takes tremendous courage to stand alone, given the historic treatment of those who have.
Hopefully censorship (control) is the first thing to be removed from the AI system.
Nvidia CEO is deceptive in nature.
Don’t be such a Steyn-azz”. All kidding aside have always appreciated his viewpoints and discussions.
…the person who can tune into the frequency of the universal moment… Reminds me that in the late 17th century Calculus was discovered by Issac Newton in England and simultaneously by Leibowitz in Germany. They never communicated. The universe was ready to reveal this mathematical tool to mankind. Two people were tuned in.
As the meme cited by Treehouse says “Ask the right F***ing questions.”
This means ask the correct ‘prompts’ leading to the info needed from AI
Learning that skill and judgement. Of the answers is the new intellegence.
Curious about choice to spell Nvidia, “Nvidea?” Intentional webcrawler misdirect or simple mispelling?
Jensen Haung and AI’s ability to be used to pull all strands of information together for purpose is always going to be limited by algorithms designed by man. That give more weight to reddit that CTH. And all sorts of other valuations assigned to data, source, how deep into the bowels of the web that is searched, compiled and analyzed. Even what is ‘right’ is subjective, right from whose perspective?
Also I’ll note that NVidia is intentionally named after Invidia. The all-seeing eye, the mortal sin of Envy. And NVidia makes the essential technology for any police state 24/7 surveillance global social credit scoring system…like an all-seeing eye would enable. Paired with Larry Ellison’s declaration that AI will be used to “make us behave” it’s clear what AI Data Centers, cameras, Oracle, NVidia are building out is not in the best interests of human freedom, liberty, sovereignty and dignity.
And one of Jensen Haung’s cofounders of NVidia is Curtis Priem, whose foundation Priem Trust funds EMPAC, a human-computer interface R&D company, some beneficial applications for the paralyzed, but with Transhuman dual purpose, capacity.
And EMPAC partners with RPI, the university that the spook arrested with $40 million in gold bars is said to have attended and been recruited out of (though that is now denied, it’s spooks who would deny.)
We’re proud to call Mark one of our own here in NH.
He’s in tough shape healthwise, if you are so inclined, please consider adding him to your prayer list, we certainly need him.
I think Rush would be proud! Excellent post. It’s refreshing to hear actual intelligence! Thanks Sundance!!
Mark Steyn….truly Orwellian in prescient and predictive powers with enhanced specificity and precision.
Really pleased to see his recognition in this esteemed site.
I equate smart with wisdom.
