Speaking to Politico reporters on Capitol Hill, Senate Majority Leader John Thune says, “ask the White House,” when questioned about the status of Jay Clayton’s DNI nomination.
Apparently, Thune is in the dark as to what comes next.

The senate majority leader has used the pro-forma sessions to keep the senate technically in session, thereby preventing the president from utilizing recess appointments. If would be good journalism practice to ask the senate majority leader if this was his idea or if someone else asked him to keep a series of pro-forma sessions in order to slow down the nomination and appointment process.

This whole scenario has a slightly familiar ring to it (President Trump, in his first term, having to use the ODNI position as leverage to get things done). So the thoroughly slimy and corrupt SSCI refused to act on his nomination. Enter Ric Grenell whom President Trump placed into the Acting Director position.
