For 20+ years CTH has been calling for the repeal of the 17th Amendment. Today, Texas Senator John Cornyn provides example #122,755 of why that change is needed.
After meeting with Attorney General nominee Todd Blanche, the outgoing senator from Texas, one of Mitch McConnell’s key DeceptiCONS, publicly states he is blackmailing the President of the United States and demanding the DOJ present information to him about the tax filings of the Trump family.
One of the more challenging facets to awakening the general public on the scale of corruption within Washington DC is the need for people to drop party designations.
This is never truer than within the U.S. Senate where the mistaken “us -vs- them” perspective remains a pesky hurdle.
The blue team and red team are mirror images of themselves. They are not opposites, they are mirrored – a big difference.
The policy objective is the same, the business model within DC (K Street) benefits the upper chamber the most.
Now remember…. Democrats want power. Republicans want money. Democrats use money to get power, while Republicans use power to get money. The ideology of Democrats is funded by donors; while the priorities of donors determine the ideology of Republicans.
This is why Republicans shift positions so easily, and this is the essential difference between both wings of the same bird.
You often hear people wonder why the GOP doesn’t push-back against the Democrats. The reason is simple, the GOP are the right wing of the UniParty bird, the Democrats are the left wing. They are mirror images of each other.
Both clubs are attached to the body of big corrupt corporatist government.
Watch the trade front. Watch international trade, economics, banking and multinational corporation influence. That’s the ‘trillions are at stake,’ and that’s where the opposition to everything MAGA comes from.
The system of affluence and influence has been created to self-sustain regardless of party affiliation. The Senate is one club with one ideological perspective. Within that club rule #1 dominates: none of the members will ever expose another member. So, when there is corrupt activity within the Senate no-one from within the institution will expose another. This is the code of Omerta within the upper chamber. This is the way of the “my good friend” Senate, and how it operates.
Former Senate Leader Mitch McConnell had a leadership group to carry out the institutional objectives of the upper chamber as a body, they included: Senator John Thune (whip); Senator John Barrasso (conference chair); Roy Blunt (committee chair); Todd Young (NRSC chair); Jodi Ernst (conference vice-chair); and Chuck Grassley (president pro tempore). None of these senators made a move publicly without approval from Leader McConnell.
In August of 2020, before the presidential election, then Senate Whip John Thune rebuked the mail-in ballot concerns expressed by President Trump. Thune took this position because ultimately the objectives of the upper chamber were more favorably aligned if President Trump was removed.

“Mailed-in voting has been used in a lot of places for a long time and, honestly, we’ve got a lot of folks that, as you know, they’re investing heavily in trying … to win that war. It’s always a war too for mail-in ballots. Both sides compete, and it’s always an area where I think our side, at least in my experience, has done pretty well,” Thune answered, adding: “I think we want to assure people it’s going to work, it’s secure and if they vote that way it’s going to count.” (read more)

The best revenge we have against these creatures is to deprive them of the kingly royal lifestyle of perqs and status they enjoy as “public servants.”
Not only repeal the 17th, but for all members of the US Congress:
-Make them live up to the Presidential standard as natural born citizens,
-Deny ANY officially-sanctioned foreign travel without SOS approval and Golden Trump stamps on their exit visas,
-Eliminate ANY stock trading by them, family members, or trusts,
-Enforce home of record/primary domiciles for ANY housing loans,
-Eliminate compensated or uncompensated employment of spouses or direct family members by NGO’s, incorporated entities, “Think Tanks,” and/or cartels,
-Eliminate ANY Congressional exemptions to statutes that pertain to all American citizens,
-Require monthly PUBLIC filings (with new and improved DOGE data scraping) for any donations, direct or indirect compensations (including transportation, meals, lodging, “entertainment,” honorariums, book sales, speeches, etc), and foreign (planned and incidental) contacts,
-Require sobriety tests upon entry to either chambers when members are in session,
-Require background security checks before swearing into office and every two years thereafter,
-And, as put forth by one of my favorite legislators, withhold all pay, per-diem, seniority, and committee assignments along with with a cap on retirement earnings and NO COLA, after 12 consecutive years of service.

Tom, I believe there might be a path thru the Supreme Court. The 17th was unconstitutional from the get-go. We are guaranteed a republican form of government. At-large voting for a Federal Senator isn’t. It is Democracy not a republican form. Even the President isn’t voted into office that way. The check and balance is the Electoral College. The way our Founders designed it all was brilliant. Then the 17th Amendment screwed it all up. How did a Senator get recalled before the 17th amendment…the state yanked their rear ends back. How do you recall a Senator after the 17th Amendment…you can’t. Their own club members would have to do it. Odds of that happening..

It is an amendment to the Constitution – it IS part of the Constitution. It cannot be “unconstitutional”.
The States could restore the Senatorial representation the Founders set up as a time-modifying control of House excesss. With State-oriented appointment and representation by Senators, the lockstep voting under control of the likes of Thuns-McConnel and Schumer would not be possible.
The States should want to regain their influence, but the states are now financially dependent on the congress, IIRC since Nixon curried favor by initiating bigtime financing of states so they did not have to face voters when they raise taxes (as all evil politicians do). State voters historically have been more likely to vote out tax-raisers.
I think a partial ‘repeal’ of the 17th, with one Senator selected in statewide voting, and one selected by the State Legislature., would be a good fix for more local state influence and less boss tweed single-party control of all senators.

I had occasion to attend a funeral, many years ago, in which a junior Senator was in attendance. They were not particularly well known at this time but I knew who they were and watched their face during the service, which was for someone they had once dated, who had ended the relationship because of their incessant desire for political power. I saw in the Senator’s eyes that day some stirring of sadness and regret that they had sold their soul and knew it.
I have never forgotten it, because whatever they have gained in this life will mean absolutely nothing in the next and I think that’s why they so desperately hold on, because they know it too, and are terrified!

Todd Blanche can be “Acting” AG until October 29, 2026, then:
If a nomination for the position is pending in the Senate, the acting official may continue to serve until the nomination is confirmed or rejected.
If the first nomination is rejected, withdrawn, or returned, the acting official can serve for an additional 210 days after that event.
Corrupt RINO Cornyn will be out of office on January 2, 2027, at which time “Acting” AG Blanche can tell Cornyn to go pound sand!

What We The People can do is repeal the Constitution’s 17th Amendment.
The 17th allowed Senators to be elected by popular vote. This removed power from the States IOW it stopped the States from controlling one branch of the Federal govt – The Senate. The Senate was the collective voice of the States.
Prior to the 17th, the individual States, either the Governor or State House and/or State Senate selected your 2 Senators AND the State’s had immediate RECALL authority as outlined in the State’s Constitution. Today a Senator is accountable to no one but their next election. 17th Amendment has no RECALL provision for Senators. That was no accident!!! Adding, changing or repealing a Constitutional Amendment is a long torturous path to success.
Especially one affecting any CongressCritters bec Senators and US House Reps alike will feel threatened by the loss of power. But Senators need to be accountable to someone other than themselves – but IMHO the repeal of the 17th is an absolute necessity.
Also, I’ve never actually checked, but I’ve read that every State still has the language in their State Constitution for Senator selection and recall should the 17th get repealed.
No one should have to reveal tax returns. I have never liked pressuring presidential candidates to do it. No one should have to do it, regardless of financial status or political affiliation.
Since congress is an equal branch of government, they should also show their tax returns, and be subject to term limits…let’s include the judicial branch while we’re at so two branches can’t gang up on one. WE must always remember, they serve US, WE should never allow them to rule US.

This is about the settlement the DOJ made with Trump because the IRS leaked his tax returns. The settlement was for 1.776 billion as the restitution fund and it included a provision to not audit Trumps biz/kids (iirc).

Forget trying to work with congress. Just use temporary appointments. When it runs out, appoint another. We can’t get rid of any of them because they have the mail in ballots. The 24 election was the last one that the American people can overcome the cheat. We will have no say in any election. See California. That’s why they are not afraid and defy Trump openly.

Trump just scored a win against the IRS over tax disclosure. Income tax docs were a non-stop opposition issue in term 45. Why do these people think they’re going to learn something shocking this time? It’s Democrat 101 to always bang that tax pot.

Not only the 17th, we also need the 16th repealed. Both Amendments reduced the power of the States drastically, and have led to the improper expansion of the Federal government beyond its Constitutionally-mandated scope, size, and cost.
