Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche held a press conference earlier today to outline a series of arrests during ongoing investigations to find thousands of missing unaccompanied alien children. [DOJ Press Release Here]
So far DHS agencies have found approximately 150,000 missing children with around 300,000 still unaccounted for as search and investigative efforts continue. The statistics within the press conference are alarming. WATCH:
DOJ – Yesterday in Cleveland, Ohio, indictments were returned charging three illegal aliens from Guatemala for international smuggling of unaccompanied alien children (UAC) and defrauding the government, while another illegal alien was sentenced to prison for smuggling a UAC to the United States in 2023 and then fraudulently obtaining custody of the child who he then sexually abused.
The indictments charge Maritza Azucena Cahuec Coc, 38, and her brother Carlos Agustin Cahuec Coc, 33, both illegal aliens from Guatemala, for their roles in an international alien smuggling conspiracy, spanning from approximately December 2020 to October 2023, that included submitting multiple fraudulent sponsorship applications to the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to gain custody of UACs. Gladys Marina Caal Chen, 20, an illegal alien from Guatemala, who, herself, was fraudulently sponsored as a UAC, is charged with making false statements to the government in connection with a UAC sponsorship application.
Juan Tiul Xi, 27, from Guatemala, pleaded guilty for helping smuggle a child into the United States and submitting a fraudulent sponsorship application, falsely representing that he was the child’s brother. After gaining custody, Xi sexually abused the child. For that, he was convicted of sexual battery of a child in state court and sentenced to eight years in prison. Additionally, Xi was sentenced to 26 months in federal prison to be served consecutive to the eight year state prison sentence.
“For too many years, under the prior administration, unaccompanied children were smuggled to the United States and then taken in by a mismanaged government program guided by reckless policy direction,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. “Instead of protecting children, these defendants and others allegedly took advantage of the program and used it to entice the illegal smuggling of unaccompanied children to the United States and, as the sentence of Tiul Xi shows, leave them vulnerable to sexual assault, trafficking, and other exploitation.” (read more)

We did ministry in Baja Mexico for many years and it was not uncommon for a mother to “sell” her 13 year old daughter in marriage to an older man. Quite often, the women were farm workers (think strawberries and tomatoes) who had no education and who lived in the labor camps, which were awful. They generally had a baby every year or so (often raped by the owner of the ranch or the other “bosses”) and thus “selling” off the older ones was a way to be able to feed the younger ones!
In many cases, it had been done to them as well and they didn’t see anything wrong with the practice – it was just life as they knew it! I am absolutely NOT condoning it, and the organizations that we worked with were trying to change the culture, but I am simply explaining that it DOES happen, and probably far more often than many suburban middle class Americans realize!
God Bless you for getting out there and doing the ministry work and trying to help. That is a lot — and I have enormous respect for anyone who actually gets out there and does … anything to help. It is indifference nad complacency on the part of the many which makes the work so hard by the few who do anything.

I used to live in Central America. In rural areas, while parents are working in the fields, in the forrest gathering wood, or doing other chores, children are often playing together without much supervision. Most are living in huts, or simple structures that are not secured with locked doors and windows. They are very vulnerable to kidnappers. It would not be difficult to overpower any resistance from the families. Likewise, most of the population are uneducated, extremely poor and child mortality rates are high. There are countless organizations with volunteers living in or visiting those communities. Many are there with good intentions. But not all. They ingratiate themselves into the community. If parents believe that their child has the possibility of a better life, they will surely be tempted to let them go. Particularly with a trusted, friendly, generous “volunteer,” that assures them they will take care of the child. Additionally, most governments in the developing world are corrupt and have very limited police resources. They are easily bought off.
A former classmate who became a surgeon and part-time missionary in Central America described visiting rural areas and bringing medical supplies and aid.
He told me that the village had lookouts, and when they saw dust rising from the dirt road leading to their village, people would run and hide from government soldiers. It sounded awful

Is there anything that can be done legally to hold the officials accountable who ran the “mismanaged government program guided by reckless policy direction“? Or were the words “mismanaged” and “reckless” used to give them an out? It should have been easily foreseeable that the outlined abuses were going to happen and yet apparently no one running that program did anything but just stand aside and allow all of it to go on.
It would be beneficial if they had a few particularly egregious cases of “reckless endangerment” cases against agency personnel, for the purpose of creating personal motives to help these trafficking victims beyond human decency, which obviously has been lacking. For the most part, the agency personnel will be immune from liability.
This announcement certainly seems timed to grease the track for Blanche’s confirmation. So, in that sense, even this good news is rather cynical. These are dark times indeed.

I believe it started under Obama. Using the Reno-Flores juvenile detention decision he moved responsibility for Unaccompanied children to DHS office of refugee resettlement. At the same time he had the NGO mob admitted into detention facilities to go fishing for civil rights violations involving juveniles (unsuccesfully). Additionally, he brought in NGO types to staff permanent positions inside DHS/CBP HQ.
Magically the UAC population exploded, and were transported by our government to foster facilities inside the US. Line agents and officers were pulled from regular assignments to travel with the children, effectively delivering them to their smugglers. Government transport became a component of the smuggling scheme, externalizing transport cost to the tax payer.

I think the intentions are great, and this is positive, but I am a little disappointed in two things. First, they are blurring the lines between the victims that were simply illegally immigrated here and those that were brought here to be trafficked. He said a large number of the 150,000 that were found were simply deemed wellness checks. Neither is a scenario that I like, but there is a huge difference between them. Many of the latter were probably just clearing up of paperwork and bad process. And I want to hear that in those cases, parents and children alike are being deported.
Second, the arrests that they are touting are a few small operators. I want to hear that they are going after the syndicates that are sexually exploiting these children. Sure, the old adage is get the lower level guys and have them flip on the organizations, but I have to believe that we know who is really behind the wholesale trafficking.

This was all intentional by the democrat socialists in control when Biden was installed as a figurehead. They and their voters are miserable people. Not sure how you get that way but every voter is complicit in these crimes. Every last one.
One pathetic aspect to this, as well as all other Democrat scandals, is that the LEFTISTS either do NOT believe this information is correct or that it is embellished to support the Right’s narrative.
