During an oval office presser to highlight new clean coal initiatives, President Trump was asked about the interim appointment of Bill Pulte as Acting Director of National Intelligence.
The UniParty congress and DC stakeholder guardians in media have collectively been having fits about appointing Pulte as acting DNI. One of the main reasons for the apoplexy is a little understood aspect to DC that many people do not fully appreciate.
The Intelligence Community is upstream from most visible political events, and the IC control the Lawfare operations (investigations and prosecutions) as well as the behavior of congressional representatives in both the House and the Senate. The latter part of this reality was what Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was referencing when he said, “the intelligence community has six ways from Sunday to get back at you,” should you question or challenge their power and control.
President Trump responded to the media question about the Pulte appointment by reminding everyone it is an interim appointment while ¹interviews for other candidates are taking place. WATCH:
¹Positioning for potential placement in this critical position has likely taken on new levels of interest as the intelligence system -thanks to Gabbard- now sees just how powerful an actively engaged DNI could be. There are multiple names likely in the mix, hopefully the white house advisors to President Trump remain disciplined, pragmatic and accept the value highlighted by the effectiveness of DNI Tulsi Gabbard’s approach.

California State Assembly member James Gallagher (R) won a special election on Tuesday, adding one more Republican to the House. [Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R) died in January] This gives a slight boost to the Republican majority in the House and could provide a window for current HPSCI Chairman Rick Crawford to be considered.
IMHO with Aaron Lucas remaining as Deputy DNI, ideologically Crawford is probably the best replacement option. Former HPSCI Chairman Devin Nunes is also a possibility, but considerations there get a little more complicated.
Regardless of who ultimately ends up as the DNI, if that person can’t be controlled by permanent DC they’ll be the “wrong” person according to all those with the most to hide.

And what were Tulsi’s qualifications? Without significant national security experience, she was probably viewed as a “controllable pick”. How’d that work out for the silos? The person selected needs a mind that questions a lot and has an exceptional BS meter.
Most of those Senators have no real “national security experience” either. Their most relevant experience is in grandstanding for the cameras and repeating what they are told to say. So what makes any of them more qualified than Pulte?

I think you’re right. This is the link to the FAQ on the Vacancies Act. An acting appointment can hold office for 210 days. All the language on Senate rejection refers to a nomination for the full appointment.

Assuming the Senate won’t approve anyone the President nominates, wouldn’t it be prudent for him to just keep filling the position every couple of hundred days with acting DNI’s that the IC and Senate can’t stand while letting Aaron Lucas do his thing?

I don’t think the president could use continuous acting officials because that would be a runaround the whole Senate confirmation process. Not that would be a bad thing……

He appoints an acting DNI they can’t stand, Pulte. The President proposes a permanent DNI who would be very capable but they also can’t stand. He does this around day 190 of the acting DNI’s 200+ day tenure so if the Senate rejects he has to appoint another temp until he can submit another name. Again around day 190.
Rinse and repeat.
He’s not doing an end around the confirmation process because the process is still taking place, the Senate just keeps saying “no”.
Ultimately he gets his guy in there, either Lucas working in the background with an acting DNI or a nominee he wants because the Senate blinks.
Warner will literally have a mental breakdown.

Special elections for House members are annoying, so I doubt Trump is willing to pull out Rick Crawford from the House, which would weaken the GOP House by 1 member. If anything, Devin Nunes resigning from Truth Social is a big hint that Trump wants him to become a future member of the presidential cabinet.

He would know the uproar that Pulte’s nomination would bring, and presumably has proceeded with this purposefully. The amount of mental breakdown some of the Dems showed, regarding this nomination, at Marco Rubio’s hearing the other day was amazing theatre. The ‘payback’ that President Trump deals to our wretched Congress is always entertaining.
