Karmelo Anthony, who is black, was arrested in 2025 after he stabbed and killed Austin Metcalf, who is white, at a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas. Karmelo has been charged with first-degree murder: the unlawful killing of another, with malice aforethought and specific intent.
In the past several days 600 people were reviewed to generate a potential pool of 250 jurors. The 250 were further whittled down to 12 with six alternates. The jury selection is over and the opening statements in the trial will likely begin tomorrow. The jury will not be sequestered during trial.
The killing is not being disputed by the defense, there were dozens of witnesses to the murder. However, the defense is claiming ‘stand your ground’ and ‘self-defense’ as justification for the killing. The defense is also promoting a motive of racism for everything surrounding the event between Metcalf and Anthony and throughout the pre-trial motions and public positioning.
Race has become the focal point of the issue because the defense is promoting race as the cause. Interestingly, last week Jack Cashill noted the Karmelo Anthony trial was likely to become the summer 2026 racial motivation for the midterms -similar to George Floyd- assuming Karmelo is found guilty. {See Cashill Prediction Here}
Karmelo is transparently guilty and Cashill rightly notes there is a long history of Communists and Marxists using the transparently guilty as martyrs for their racism narratives. The Austin Metcalf murder and Karmelo Anthony trial is perfect fuel for the “Black Lives Matter” remnants to reassemble.
The potential jurors were questioned about their biases and perspectives. Several of the black jurors said they could not convict a young black man for killing a while young man. This is the part of the cultural narrative the defense teams are publicly counting on.

Besides having to justify why their client went looking for a fight, it seems they either have to admit he made a point of bringing his weapon that day (premeditated) or claim that he always carried his concealed weapon to school.
My guess is that the latter would be looked at as a minor infraction for which his color and attitude would give him a pass. Defense might also find racist friends of their client willing to testify untruthfully that he always carried a knife, in order to undermine the premeditation element of the charge.

This case is being heard in a state court in North Texas. The judge is a former Marine, among other things. He ruled that the prosecution’s argument for striking three black potential jurors for cause was acceptable. He’ll give Anthony a fair trial.
Expect the defense attorney to try to make the judge rule against him so many times that the attorney can argue bias on appeal.

Frisco is a far north Dallas suburb. It’s where decent people moved to get away from the thugs and horrible schools in the Dallas ISD. But the trash has a way of blowing in anyway. I moved out of Dallas years ago because of this crap. I had to draw my weapon a couple times but fortunately never had to discharge it. A Dallas County grand jury would almost definitely convict a White guy defending himself. That’s when I decided to move. Every year it gets worse.
At this sporting event this punk came and sat down in a tent area that wasn’t designated for his team. He was there just to cause trouble. And when asked to leave he stabbed Austin. Maybe the guys shouted racial epithets. That’s still not “standing your ground” or a reason to kill. No one else had a weapon.

The intruder is a burglar. It’s your house. You have no duty to retreat. He has no right to be there, so it is not “his” ground.. You can use reasonable force to defend yourself or others against the perceived threat. That’s the general rule, as I recall. (I’m a retired civil litigator, so that’s my best answer.)

I want to hear the defense’s explanation of why Anthony went into that tent in the first place. Anthony is likely not going to testify, so it’s Austin’s twin and the other athletes who will give the only version of events.
I would suggest that he went there looking to kill someone. He wasn’t even hurt, perhaps not even really attacked, carrying a concealed lethal weapon, past history of viscous violence, family lavishly rewarded, textbook setup. The Micheal Gentle Giant Brown and St. George cases show that you can’t defend yourself if you are white, and this case appears to be heading towards the proposition that you can’t be convicted if black. Glad it’s not in a blue zone. In some, well, many counties, this may not have even been charged.

This trial is another test of our nation’s civic sense of duty. In the end, we are all responsible for a safe, secure, and rational society. The police and the criminal Justice system do not guarantee our social compact. If a person is absolutely guilty of crime and let off, there is no law. Whether it’s for race, societal position, “mental health”, age, or any other possible reason, if the law doesn’t apply evenly, there is no law. A judge who cares about the law would stomp any lawyer trying to use excuses to get the client off.
Don’ know how this will play out… but the victim has an *identical* twin brother. No doubt the twin will be sitting in the court room and I’m sure this will be a very unsettling *visual* for the Jurors IMO.
