Secretary of State Marco Rubio gives a press conference with the assembled press pool following NATO discussions in Helsingborg, Sweden.
The main topics of concern from the European media is the reduction of U.S. troops from NATO bases and the current status of the conflict with Iran. Rubio notes that Sweden and Finland joining NATO was one of the few examples of the alliance benefiting from the addition of countries. However, that said, the overall posture of NATO should proceed with an urgency on their own defense posture as the U.S. footprint is under evaluation.
At 15:25 of the video below, Secretary Rubio discusses the current status of the U.S. toward the conflict with Ukraine. Rubio notes the Ukraine-Russia conflict will only resolve with a negotiated settlement. WATCH:

I think Tulsi has taken the air out of the room..
Marco has some serious Frequent Flyer miles.
As I recall, Kissinger was quite the traveler too. Difference being I think Marco is doing it to benefit our best interests and not his buddies bank accounts.
He needs to get home from Sweden, Press Secretary, Ambassador to Cuba & ET, add new DNI Head, to SOS is going to be challenging. lol
Fail to see how Sweden and Finland did anything to “strengthen” NATO by joining.
Both were neutral nations since 1945.
Finland was lucky to survive the 1939 War vs the USSR and then survive being a belligerent ALLY of Nazi Germany.
Sweden deserved to be bombed in WWII by the Allies for supplying allot of Germany’s key mineral needs to manufacture weapons.
The USSR left both of them alone after WWII and Russia has left them alone … and actually had economic-trade relationships.
So, tell me how flipping two neutral trading partners to being belligerent NATO members … with hostile governments is a good thing and not provocative v/v Russia
Agreed! The entire Norwegian Military numbers 23,000. Sweden is 88,000. Not much of an army! 🤔
The Swedes don’t need an army to fight Russia. They need an army to fight Islam. Hopefully they’ve started to address that problem, and to correct the error of their ways.
Good points. I also don’t see how Sweden and Finland helps NATO, especially when considering how Russia looks at it. In the case of Sweden, Rubio mentioned past relationships in terms of technology.
I would like to see more discussion about how NATO is outdated, but I guess no one wants to acknowledge that modern day Russia is not the USSR.
Rubio is impressive, but the comments today sounded like more like the blah, blah that we are used to hearing. I guess what we are hearing is that President Trump values having the bases, and he isn’t willing at this point to make changes to NATO except for countries paying their share.
I disagree. I think Marco does an excellent job communicating. But he does an excellent job of staying in his lane and not getting ahead of the president. They were asking some tough questions and maybe trying to pin him down. He sidestepped it professionally and politely.
Yes, NATO is worried about a drawdown. They should be. They’ve brought it upon themselves.Personally, I hope it happens. These countries have been taking us for granted for far too long and basically using us as their defense for decades.
And we were belligerent allies of the Soviet Union at the time. Let’s not throne stones from glass houses.
That argument has…interesting implications for the U.S. provision of war materiel to France and England during WWI, as an example.
What is strengthened is the bottom line of European and American arms manufacturers.
THE ONLY REASON why NATO keeps expanding is because new entrants must adjust their arsenal to be NATO compatible. That means lots of sales across many years to change weaponry.
The Eurotrash elites are not scared that Ruskies might invade. They never were and are not.
It’s all about the Benjamins baby.
I am more interested in Rubio’s next stop: India.
