And as for you, if thou wilt walk before me, as David your father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded you, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;
Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David your father, saying, There shall not fail you as a man to be ruler in Israel.
But if you turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;
Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.
And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why has the Lord done thus unto this land, and unto this house?
And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.”

No. That is not how this works here in our USA.
Our FOUNDERS, almost 250 years ago, intended and designed our NATION to operate in a different — more Godly — manner.
Our Founders recognized We The People to be those made in the image of God … as a FREE and RESPONSIBLE people. We the People and only We the People must take responsibility for our actions [or inactions].
See the Declaration of Independence, wherein are defined our RIGHTS but also our DUTIES … where with respect to our political leaders, the primary DUTY of We The People is to elect into office ONLY THOSE who understand and embrace our Founding American Principles and reject those who do not.
The fact that we have stumbled so greatly is because, in way too many instances, we have chosen very poorly our elected officials … and we have enabled them in their efforts to cause decay and destruction of our intended American Way of Life.
For such shortcomings, there is no one to blame … except those in the mirror, where, IF we want to continue as a NATION of free people, we must accept this responsibility and act on it.

The scripture is a restatement of the prayers of Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 30 and 32, and also repeated in 1 Kings 8, Jeremiah 3, Daniel 9, and several other places in the Old Testament as well as being referred to in Romans 11.
Assyria did it to Israel.
Babylon did it to Judah.
Rome did it to Judah again.
BTW, the very fact that Israel and Judah split proved the people had failed this promise. And that split happened quickly.
