U.K Prime Minister Keir Starmer has suffered a massive defeat as the British regional election results continue to be counted. So far, Starmer’s Labour Party has lost 1,100 seats and Nigel Farage’s Reform Party has gained a whooping 1,229 seats.
The results continue to be tallied as many regions and local councils have a form of ranked choice voting. However, despite the mounting electoral losses, Keir Starmer is refusing to step aside.

I do remember, RM and in fact said the same above.
A snap General Election could be called as has happened many times…by a PM (Thatcher for example) when it is all but certain that PM will be returned. And this often takes place after a change in leadership within a governing party.
Starmer knows what would happen if he decided to call one, which of course he won’t. Hanging on for as long as he can is the dishonourable course he has selected.
And if/when his own party boots him out, then selects a new leader/PM, that person can carry on until 2029 without going to the country.
Remember, in the UK, people vote for party, not individuals who lead them. At least ostensibly. Which is how a party in trouble can carry on until its five year term is finished, no matter if they change their leaders every fortnight.

Having spent the first 40 years oy my life in England (and the next 30 in Canada), I have followed our Nige with interest for most of his political career. I can’t provide a link to anything he’s actually delivered based on promises he’s made because that has never happened.
Yes, he talks a big game and certainly did have some influence over the Brexit outcome, after opposing John Major’s earlier Maastricht Treaty signing. But if you follow his political career since the ’80s you’ll see that he bends with the wind and quite happily embraces opposing views to maintain his position and income. After UKIP he became an MEP and talked a big game as usual but there’s nothing to show for it.
And in Reform, he’s gradually diluted his stance on the key positions that they started from, with immigration being the major one. He’s now broadly aligned with the pro-immigration and great replacement process of Agenda 2030.
