Apparently, CNN needs to play the game of pretending that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) do not already operate in U.S. airports.
Airports are border checkpoints, and the “customs” part of both ICE and CBP are functions that happen as part of regular duty for CBP and ICE officials.
As Tom Homan notes, CBP/ICE already exist in airports and can assist Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials in various duties including, customs checks, routine security, entrance/exit security as well as baggage and pre-boarding security checkpoints that do not involve the use of x-ray and scanning machines. In fact, more than half the functioning work of TSA agents can easily be handled/supported by ICE/CBP agents.
But CNN needs to build a narrative, so the reality of simple explanations works against their interests. WATCH:

As someone who flies weekly for work, I think you can put school crossing guards in place instead of TSA agents and no one would notice. Most are older and/or overweight, usually talking to each other in small groups. I couldn’t imagine almost any of the ones I see having to physically engage with someone intent on doing harm. On top of that, the discovery rate for contraband when they get tested is shockingly low.

I travel quite a bit and TSA isn’t “a ban” to me. I invested the $165 fee for five years and use the express lane!
Well, my daughter flies frequently also and until recently the express lane has been moving slow slower than the regular lane.
When I traveled all the time I had TSA Pre and Global Entry, that stage has passed so no need to feed that anymore.
Had to fly about 6 months ago, when I got to the checkpoint the Pre had a line and there was no one at the normal line 1,2,3 and done.
Joked with the worker about the people standing in the line, he just chuckled, smiled and whispered it was OK with him.

TSA Agents do security screening they are not law enforcement officers. As someone who “flies weekly” you might want to check out the police officers assigned to each of the screening stations that you transit on a regular basis for work. BTW, with millions of flights and a hundred million travellers since 9/11 we haven’t had a single hijacked airline flight in 25 years! 😉
October 22, 2023: Horizon Air Flight 2059 – an off-duty pilot, riding in the jump-seat inside the cockpit, went bonkers, attempted to grab the controls and attempted to cut off the fuel supplies to the engines. The TSA academy entrance requirements include a drug test, background check, age 18 or older, and a high school diploma or GED. The course is 120 hours, much of which can be completed on line. It lasts 2-3 weeks.
So basically, a very low bar. Plus, a DEI magnet. For this CNN tool to suggest that ICE agents might not be able to step into these shoes (unlike the rest of us, they can keep their shoes on) is absurd, as anyone who has ever set foot in an airport can attest.
Does this mean that our checked luggage will no longer be rifled through for items to steal? Will granny in her wheelchair no longer be subject to a pat down?
Imagine an airport where law-abiding American citizens are no longer treated like criminals, or cattle. Imagine the focus placed on real criminals instead, such as illegal aliens and the potential terrorists already in the FBI database.

The TSA is solely responsible for screening passengers with checked and carry-on baggage at 450+ U.S. airports.
From TSA’s beginning, this responsibility should have been turned over to the US Coast Guard. The Coast Guard is currently maritime, it’s military and it’s a multi-mission service. It already operates under the Department of Homeland Security.
Its maritime law enforcement mission can be expanded to aviation. Its procedure & process oriented as well as military, therefore, lapses of judgment, decorum or ability by a Coast Guard screener can be reviewed & dealt with immediately. No union related encumbrances.
I wonder how many Senators have the guts to fly commercially through the airports since their holding up funding for TSA?
