BTW – there are refineries on Kharg island that process crude into refined products needed on the mainland. Taking the island would reduce the amount of gasoline, diesel and other refined products needed by mainland Iran (and needed by Iran’s war efforts.) Iran does have other refineries but it would further increase economic pressure.

I would assume that those who are left in a position of leadership in Iran know they are a dead person still walking. It’s just a matter of who will kill them and when.
So glad Trump pulled out of the JCPOA in 2018. He knew Iran leaders were on their way to becoming a powerful force with nuclear weapons with or without the agreement.
While the focus should be on the current fighting, there is a very important side aspect to this that has not received much attention.
When Kissinger brokered the petrodollar deal in 1974, he gave the Saudis a choice: accept US military protection in exchange for pricing oil in dollars, or face a surgical seizure of their fields if they strangled the West’s economy.
Fifty years later, Trump is using that same Art of the Deal playbook to stop the BRICS de-dollarization movement in its tracks. By stripping the defenses off Kharg Island and seizing control of Venezuelan assets, he has essentially put the world’s most critical oil taps under US receivership.
This strategy strengthens the petrodollar which is the ‘exorbitant privilege’ that has allowed us to run up our national dept. Without it countries would stop buying our dept, our interest rates would spike, and servicing our dept would be unsustainable. Further it is a weapon against Chinese and Russian interests. With US natural gas and oil production hitting record highs in 2026, we are to coin a phrase drinking the milkshake of our rivals, leaving China’s energy dependent economy and Russia’s sanctioned treasury with no way to pass the buck (the US dollar).

I believe we (USA) are going to have to obliterate Iran’s infrastructure as much as Germany and Japan were destroyed in WWII. Iran is near identical with Germany and Japan in WW II, being ruled by a death cult and won’t quit till the wolf is literally at the door. You can also be assured there are boots on the ground in Iran, more than likely not U.S. boots but their there.
