Good morning Betsy. Is not this the truth. I have never trusted any body who was unkind to animals. In my humble opinion, they need to be treated the same way they treated God’s creatures. Like the Old Testament, “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”
Haven’t commented on CTH much the last couple of days, except to read and catch up on the news. I was busy typing up a lot of documents for the Professor for her on-line classes, so she could send it to them. Evidently she did send the documents as PDF’s but the students complained they could not access them. So, I retyped them as documents and attached them to an E-mail to her so she could send them.
The auction on Saturday for the Volunteer Firemen was a success. They raised almost $4,000 on the auction of the baked goods. There were tables full of baked goods. I do not know what other money they raised from people just donating at the door. My chocolate cake went for $65, my chocolate cream pie went for $50 and my apple cinnamon cake went for $45. Was happy about my contribution, although I felt the cakes and pie were worth more! LOL
All the cats are fine. Cleo gets friendlier every day. She is also getting fat, but I am not going to worry, as she only gets dry food and no wet food, and she was pretty skinny after she had the kittens. Also, they tend to put on weight once they are spayed. Her daughters are bigger than their mother. They are still quite active and kept me awake for awhile last night playing “tag” and chasing some small balls on the bed while I was trying to sleep. Beau is smart to stay off the bed for that very reason. Maizie and Pumpkin are the ones who like to sleep with me. Cleo still prefers to sleep under the bed or in the living room on a piece of furniture. They continue to make me laugh with their antics!

It does sound as if Cleo has her place and is happy with it, which is so good. A much better one than before she chose you. As for her teenagers (I think we should call them), I think it is so lovely they keep you company at night. Night time antics are just part of the deal I guess. Beau has obviously has sussed out his territory and it seems a comfortable living arrangement has been silently agreed to by all relevant parties. All paws and murder mittens on the dotted lines 😉💕
I think we’ve rounded winter’s corner thankfully…hope I haven’t spoke too soon. Onward on another day which seems to have sped right by for some reason.
I’m doing a lot of posting on the various threads Sundance puts up. It seems to help me dispense with the frustration at the way things are at the moment, gets it out of my system. But actually like having those conversations we used to have in the UK which were so stimulating. Cat and Dog days here are a welcome diversion for me, and I hope for others who need to withdraw for a while.

Good evening Betsy. Yes I think the rest of the winter should not be awful. We might have an occasional colder day or two. I can not wait to get out and clean up my garden areas. Miss being able to do my gardening.
I’ve been reading the other threads as well. I make a comment once in awhile but not too often. I do not feel well informed enough to comment much. I miss the conversations I had when I was more involved with other horse people and ranchers. We had some wonderful and lively conversations. The majority were Christian and conservative.
I’ve got my church friends, but they do not seem to wish to converse on current events in our world. There are a few but unfortunately the majority of them listen to Fox and other mainstream media and appear to be somewhat brainwashed. I’ve learned not to bring up anything political and the current events of the world. The treehouse is my refuge, as well as, my continuing education. I feel that one should never stop learning.
I suppose that is why my comments sometimes are a bit long.

Wolves are my favorite canines. Had a 3/4 wolf-dog named Thor. He was amazing.

I watched a small video yesterday of a a couple who have befriended grey wolves. I had no idea those animals were so HUGE!!!! The affection between these two young people and the two wolves was so beautiful. No fear. I am guessing that Thor was himself a big lad…lovely 😌
Thor was 135lbs in his prime. Not nearly as large as his 100% grey wolf sire.
Thor was solid white with a blue eye and a brown eye.
The most gentle of souls, Thor did, indeed, defend my son from a dog attack.
Thor met the attacking dog in mid-air and ripped it from throat to belly, dis-emboweling it. The dog was dead when it hit the ground.
Thor also allowed the tiniest of kittens to use him for a furry playground.
He was always concerned when we rode our horses as he saw the potential for danger.
He was a remarkable animal and I was blessed to be chosen by him and spend many wonderful years in his company.

Yes they are amazing Truli. I had friends that had wolf mixes and they were some of the most intelligent, loving and very protective of their owners and family members I’ve ever seen.

Sigh . . . My backyard, dear Bet. My first dog (my dad’s bird-dog had adopted me—I was his first boy) was a little terrier mix named Susie. My dad taught me to adjust and repair my bike. I could use his tools—IF—I put them back in the toolbox where they belonged.
Tools back…A place for everything and everything in its place. AbsoLUTEly!! Chris’s dad was the same. Woe betide him if they weren’t where they should be. Everything Chris knows about everything he learned from his dad.
Same thing here. When dad was home from a tour of duty, he taught his girls and we had better put those tools back exactly where we took them from! Great memories come to mind.
I’ll bet that little terrier mix Susie was a sweet dog. Our first dog was a Bernese Mountain Dog mix. Her name was Susie as well., and very protective of her human family, especially my sisters and I.

LOL. Yes I know because my son, when I was in rehab, spoiled Beau and I am sure if I had whipped cream in the house, he would have done the same thing! He still gives Beau the last bite of what he eats, if its appropriate food for Beau. Mike especially likes peanut butter and shares his peanut butter toast with Beau.
I just go along with it. What are you going to do? I was in rehab for about a month, so Beau got very spoiled during that time!
Hate to tell you so am I like your son with our granddog Maggie. Fortunately her “mom” knows and has learned it’s no good wagging her finger (half heartedly). What is it about dogs and peanut butter??
After that last bite does he hold up hands, show them to Beau, and say (as I do to the Mags) “All gone”?

I have **always** enjoyed spoiling my dogs and cats. I think it makes ’em more a part of the family. Right now I’m just down to Little ‘Tink . . . who sleeps on my shoulder, sits comfortably in my lap, and is my shadow when I’m in the house.

Spent $870 at the Vet this week. Annual exam $460 (exam, worm check and vaccines) and my dog somehow hurt is back (exam, x-rays and two medicines $410

It didn’t used to be so exorbitant. And it is the reason that, much as we miss having animals (and we desperately do miss it), we have had to make the decision not to. I have read that private equity firms like BlackRock are buying up practices across the nation, and this is in great part the reason for the staggering prices. Makes sense, doesn’t it.
When we were in Wales the costs of vets was reasonable but we’ve been here now for twenty years, and my sister in law there tells us the same has happened. I might add that pur pets there never got checkups or yearly injections (not mandated as there is no rabies in Britain…except in the rabid barbarian invaders). Our beloved Jack Russell Penny and all our farm cats lived long lives. When Penny needed surgery towards the end of hers, it didn’t break us. Times gone well by I’m afraid.

Good morning dear Bet! Unfortunately, the veterinary medicine is marching right behind the human medicine towards becoming completely corporate. And the AVMA has become just about as woke as AMA.
The corporations owning the vet practices for the most part demand that the vets follow the computer algorithms in diagnosis and treatment. And the young ones coming out of the vet schools don’t know any different. I’ve always contended that medicine is part art.

Yes, he was fine all day and we hike at least and hour every day. I let him out the last time for the night and he was barking like Brittanies are prone to do. In the morning he could barely move. I looked at the yard and a bigger dog came into our yard (I have a Dog Watch underground fence). There were also human prints through the bank and into the yard. I think the bigger dog either got on his back or the other dogs owner maybe kicked him. The Vet said his back was very out of alignment and was having spasms. I let him out the back and he had ran into the front yard so I didn’t see what happened but he had let out a weird bark and ran back into the house. It really makes me mad. The Doc said keep him quiet for three days (sure doc) and dogs respond well to the medicine so he should be okay.
The Book on Brittanies barking: Brittanies make great watch dogs if you want someone to warn you of an intruder, but they are so friendly they will show the intruder where you keep your valuables.
I have to agree with the book.

It is disgraceful that this has happened everywhere. The evil ones can not stand to see the people enjoying their life with their pets, especially the seniors who really do need their pets at that stage in their life.
I haven’t taken my pets to the vet for annual shots in a long time and they do not have health issues like other friends pets have. My pets do not go anywhere, so do not need the shots.
When I take Blue to get his teeth done, they want to give him a bunch of shots. I firmly say no, as he is old and isn’t shown and ridden any longer so he is not around any other horses. He will be 30 this year and in good health for his age. I firmly believe it is because he does not get all those shots every year.
Fortunately, my horse vet is reasonable and is okay with my choice to say no to the shots.

Most people do not know that most of the vet schools stopped recommending routine annual vaccinations for dogs and indoor cats about 20yrs ago.
I rarely vaccinate my own pets, showed dogs for years and never had a dog with a communicable disease except a stray.
West Nile Virus is common here so if I still had horses I would vax for that.
If that is the case, then why are the Vets still touting the animals should get them every year? In all the years, (over 20) that I had the horse ranch, there were no cases of West Nile Virus in our area.
I think you’re correct, sis. I’ve read enough recently to believe vaxxxes cause a lot of harm in animals, or can. Just as they do on humans (I’ve read more than you can imagine on those since 2020). Long may your precious Blue carry on. Thirty is an incredible age 💕
Yes it is, although I had a mare, “Granny” that lived to the ripe old age of 36. She came from what they called, the “old Foundation Quarter Horse stock.” She just lay down one night and never woke up. Oh how I cried as she was the one of the coolest mares I ever had the privilege of owning. She was the “boss lady” of the herd of mares and they knew it and respected her for it and they let her discipline their foals as well. The foals did not get away with any shenanigans in the herd.
When I fed the mares in the pasture, I had buckets for each and I rode my “Deere Gator” along filling feed buckets. The mares would run up the hill to eat, then Granny would wait and then flatten her ears, show her teeth, and run up the hill. It was like the parting of the Red Sea with the mares and foals and Granny got whichever bucket of feed she chose to eat out of. Funniest thing I ever witnessed and the hands and I laughed every morning and evening when we fed. I got her for a pittance at an auction as she had been a mare that would receive embryo transplants from other mares and raise the babies as her own. I never could understand why they didn’t breed her as she was bred to Blue and had some beautiful foals, not many though, as she was older and not very fertile.
Ahh the memories I have to cherish are so lovely. What a wonderful gift from God the Horses were to me. I always thank Him every day for his trust in me to take care of all those splendid creatures, those gentle giants.
Patthenavybrat, thank you for the horse visuals. I never had a ranch but had horses when I (and my kids) were younger. Watching horse behavior and interaction within a herd is fascinating. I know what you mean about a ‘boss mare’.
Vets still tout vaxs as that is their bread and butter. Along with spay/neuter and euthanasia which have sky-rocketed in price around here.
I wanted to spend my life in the horse world but life took me elsewhere.

In my grooming business over 25 years I have had to tell several customers that it was time to put the dog down.
I think the worst one was a lovely older border collie that could no longer stand on her rear legs. She just barely drug her self into the groom shop! She had many other issues the vet was treating – he was making lots of money off her!! The kind owner did get the dog put down, said the vet never suggested doing that!!
The vet called me afterword and thanked me for advising the owner to put the dog down!!! I certainly did not think much of that vet, he let that wonderful dog suffer because he couldn’t tell the owner it was time. He just kept selling her medicine and making money off her!!
The worst thing he did is to let that beautiful old girl suffer!!
I pray that the Good Lord remembers all the animals that he let suffer!

Awwwww, a Schnauzer! They were my favorite dogs to groom! They are so used to being clipped, that they stand still and are extremely patient.
My girl friend has a Miniature Schnauzer named Kazan, He was a service dog for her husband who was hard of hearing. She has him and he tells her and her sister when their blood pressure gets too high. He is so intelligent. When she was having trouble walking, I would take him and give him his exercise. I take him when she goes overnight sometimes and he is the boss man and Beau will defer to him. He is one of the neatest little dogs!

When I lived in E Texas, my dentist lived across the street and they had a miniature Schnauzer.. What a sweetheart she was. And for some reason she took shine to us, so that if she were outside and I opened the door, in she would dash all the way to our bedroom in the furtherest end of the house and under the bed. Sometimes she’d come in so fast when I was looking elsewhere I wouldn’t even know she’d been in…until my friend (who was her “mom”) would phone and ask if she were there. I’d have to go look 😂

Guinness was a black cat who lived in an apartment on the 30th floor of a London skyscraper. He was an indoor cat who never went outside.
But he had a best friend.
His best friend was a window washer named Stephen.

American department store founder (J C Penney), dies at 95
Biography: James Cash Penney was an American businessman and entrepreneur known for founding the JCPenney department store chain in 1902.
Penney initially worked in a store himself, and then bought a partnership in a new store that his employers were opening. When they dissolved their partnership, he took over the total of three stores thus far.
From there, Penney’s interests quickly expanded with a total of 34 stores by 1912. The chain continued to expand nationwide and reached a total of 120 stores in 1920, by 1929 it would reached 1,400 stores.
While the stock market crash of 1929 and ensuing Great Depression almost ruined Penney personally, the company survived. Penney subsequently let go of the reins and allowed others to taking over daily operating management.

Biography: Charles Schultz is the author of “Peanuts” the much-loved cartoon series featuring the characters of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy and Linus with his blanket.
From a young age Charles Schultz wanted to be a cartoonist. When he initially sold his cartoon “Li’l Folks” to United Feature Syndicate in 1950 its name was changed to “Peanuts”, to avoid a claim on the title from the owner a 1930’s strip called “Little Folks”. Shultz himself never liked the name, and avoided using it conversation.
Peanuts grew in popularity, books were published and in 1965 it appeared on the cover of “Time” magazine. In the same year the first animated TV special was broadcast, winning Schulz his first Grammy award. An off-Broadway show also ran for four years, followed by a musical.
Over the decades “Peanuts” popularity continued, the NASA Apollo 10 mission used Snoopy in its safety program and an animated film appeared in 1969. At its height “Peanuts” appeared in 2,600 papers in 75 countries, in 21 languages. Schulz retired in 1999 not long before his death of cancer but his creation continues to live on and a new 3D computer animated movie was released in 2015.
I was stationed in the military, overseas in the Far East, with his next-door neighbor in the ‘60s.
He said Mr. Schulz had a beagle that he used as a model for Snoopy.

Israel Update:
I took some time off for personal purposes and because there was not much new. And there is still not much new, the world is still crazy – LOL, but let me clarify where things are from where I am looking.
Iran: You know that I dislike too much speculation. And unfortunately speculation is most of what you hear.
~So here is what I know – The US is constantly mobilizing more and more assets for a case that President Trump will give the order. Now another Carrier Strike team is going to be deployed. This takes over a week too. But I keep seeing reports on more and more assets in the area.
~Trump just saw Bibi for a few hours. His statement is that he is insisting on the diplomatic path if possible and he is wishing that the Iranians will be more reasonable than before.
~Some statements from Trump that he will only demand an end to the nuclear program. And yesterday a statement that also the Ballistic Program needs to stop or restrained. For Israel the Ballistic Program is existential and there are reports that they sped up and may be up to a couple of thousands long range missies in some months. This must have been on the table in the meeting.
~The Iranians are into some negotiations with the US (Witkoff). Very tough starting positions.
No to discussions about Ballistic Missiles.
No to stopping support to proxy terror organizations.
No to stopping enrichment of Uranium and ending the nuclear program. They agree to discuss the % of enrichment and there are rumors that they may let Russia hold some of the highly enriched uranium material that they already have.
In Israel we are sure that they are masters of negotiations and their goal is to delay until Trump is out of office. And they are also not to be trusted as they cheat. I am sure that this was discussed with Bibi and he also met Witkoff and Kushner.
I don’t know if you noticed but the subjects have changed. Earlier it had to do with protecting the protesters and regime change. This is not mentioned now.
You must know that Trump has been very back and forth on the whole subject and is making everyone spin. So no one knows what he is going to do really. He did use deceptions in the past. But the Saudis and the Qataris and Turkish are all pressuring him to halt. It is hypocritical as the Qataris and Saudis used to be terrified of the Iranians and now they are meeting them. Including their leaders.
Now there is the moral aspects. There are various reports as to how many were murdered by the regime.
It is likely around 30,000 but some reports are up to 80,000. I told you before that if the regime stays we may never know. But even 15,000 is five 9/11s. And God knows how many wounded and arrested.
The moral issue can potentially be a stain on Trump’s record as he called the protesters “to go out and take over institutions and help is on the way”. And many did just that and many were killed and wounded.
So this now becomes a moral issue. Also the aspect of letting those murderous people play around with sly negotiations is having its own moral aspect. And Trump knows.
But this is a complex decision. I don’t want to judge, but the optics are bad. As Israelis of course a regime change would be a huge win of historical proportions. Now should I speculate? probably no, but letting israel do the “dirty work” is also an option. But regime change is also good for America. Oil, trade, a weakened axis of China / Russia / N. Korea, weakened Hamas and Hezbollah, etc…
Again, we can wait and see.
Gaza: This is a volatile situation and I wonder if anyone is reporting it in the US?
So we got home all the hostages. A miracle with a price.
There are daily violations of the ceasefire from Hamas side and responses from Israel. Many terrorists and some who participated in 10/7 were killed.
Israel is finding itself in the awful formula of having to say that “we killed so and so terrorist as a response to Hamas violations of the ceasefire”. Why do we need reasons and excuses to kill people who participated in 10/7 or are known terrorists with blood on their hands?
Hamas made a few attempts to attack IDF forces past the yellow separation line. In one attempt some 4 terrorists emerged out of tunnels in Rafah and this could have been a kidnapping attempt and it’s not the only time. This also shows you how brainwashed they are. Rafah has been in IDF hands over a year. It is fully ruined and those terrorist stayed underground like rats a whole year for the sole reason of maybe one day kill some Israelis.
So what’s next? The next phase is made of a few things:
~A disarming of Hamas.
~The Technocrats to manage Gaza – civil activities.
~A Peace Keeping force. Theoretically should disarm Hamas. But never really so. Indonesia is supposed to send thousands of solider at some point. And there are others.
~The Gaza Peace Committee made of Heads of States.
Now:
~Hamas is very clear about not disarming and today also had a senior say no soldiers will be let into their zones.
~The Technocrats (professionals in managing civil activities) are now showing up to be very linked to the Palestinian Authority who is also all about destroying Israel and their Chief has links to terrorism and Israel hate. As a note Hamas alway liked that other people will manage Civilian activities so they can be freed up to deal with military activities only. They do like to control the civilians yet.
~Bibi just joined the Peace committee. I think he did it because it is important for Trump. Not a popular move in Israel to be side by side with Turkey and Qatar.
~There is a risk that the Peace Keeping Force will be used as a shield to protect Hamas. If they let them in their zones. So Israel will have to insist to keep them in locations that allow Israel free action when needed.
~So the latest report is that Witkoff and Kushner may try to make a semi phase and make them disarm only of “heavy weapons”. Rockets, RPGs, etc…
This is a huge liability and they will remain in power with rifles and will hide the RPGs.
I hope this is not the case. Bibi just met Kushner and Witkoff so I have to guess that there is some coordination going on. I mean technically Israel can let them give some of the heavy weapons and then disarm them for real. But if the Peace Keeping Force will protect Hamas by being there as shields then Israel loses the war. So as I said before. Israel will eventually have to fight Hamas to oblivion.
Realize that without hostages it’s a whole different kind of war.
Or, Hamas will stay under regular fire and the IDF will keep holding most of Gaza and that is a win of the war for Israel as they lost land. But it doesn’t change the long term formula if Hamas is boss of almost a half of Gaza.
Are you confused? The situation is confusing. Israel is waiting for the green light from Trump to finish the job. Or Trump will go with the Qataris and Turkish and let Hamas survive. Not likely. Israel will have to hold its grounds against the Arab attempt to save Hamas and against any American misunderstanding or misalignment with the goals of the war that include the disarming of Gaza and getting rid of Hamas.

If I may, I’d like to speculate a bit on Trump’s “in between” phase in the on going negotiations. First of all—We don’t know what Trump has in mind. His negotiating moves tend to be just that . . . statements and observations designed to just “keep things going”.
This is prompting the Iranians to reveal their negotiating strategy. This is just what he wants.
We should note that Trump is, at present, just sitting back and waiting—in card player’s terms he is the guy holding the aces. And he ain’t sayin’ what he has planned. What he has said is that Iran crossed a line they shouldn’t have crossed. My guess is that when he feels he has enough overwhelming force, he’ll simply tell Iran to “close up shop and leave” . . . or else.
This is pure Trump. When the chips are down—of all the world’s leaders— he is the last person to trifle with.

Herzog has just been in Australia. I think he’s here one more day.
We had illegal protests in Sydney. They were not permitted to be so close to the Herzog group, which was for mourning the Chanukah Bondi Beach Islamist massacre. The protesters were told they can use a suitable area only a few streets away. Instead they chose to clash with police.
It was the first time since Oct 7 that the police took action against these terrorist supporters. They have been intimidating Aussies and especially Jews weekly for well over 100 weeks, starting at the Sydney Opera House on Oct 9 2023. I have seen on social media that people (non Jews) are now asking if Herzog can visit regularly so the protesters can be treated like this more often.
On a particularly negative note – because of the protesters, police advised the Jews to remain inside where they were because they would not be safe to leave. The police wanted to clear the area of the protesters and escort the Jews safely as they left. I’m not sure how long they had to wait because I have heard different information and I don’t know what was true. But this is not the only time over the last 2+ years that Jews in Australia were physically trapped because of protesters. Apparently this is modern Australia.

A possible explanation for why the Qatari’s and Saudi’s would now meet with Iranians: even though the Sunnis and Shiites kill each other for not being the right kind of Muslim, they are willing to work together when faced with the people’s rebellion.
If the freedom- fighters of the Iranian people were successful in throwing off the regime, it could possibly inspire the people of other Muslim countries to do the same.
Islam is an anti-human death cult. If Iran could become free, other people living under Sharia would be inspired to do the same. The Saudi’s and Qatari’s and others don’t want to face such a rebellion.
Muslims can reason that those rebelling against Islam are worthy of death, since anyone who wants to leave Islam must be killed, a basic tenet of their religion. That’s how they make common cause and preserve the Muslim stronghold in this region. A free Iran would be a great blessing to the whole world!

Gaza does seem to be an untenable situation. Hamas is, as you say, motivated to degree that us normal human beings cannot even contemplate. The only solution may be what IDF has recommended all along – decimate & destroy until they (Hamas) no longer exists.
Well the short term solution is in either pushing them out to another location or kill the terrorists. But the long term involves education. A new and moderate generation. As of now the indication is that the Hamas is still getting very high support which means killing Jews is a common motivation.
I do not speak Spanish, but I have seen some reports that the English translation of what this yahoo said reveals most of it is profane and violates FCC decency rules. Yet, there is apparently no investigation for such a FCC ruling.
I did not watch the half time show, and will not watch another NFL halftime show ever again.

WE ARE FIGHTING A SPIRITUAL WAR OF GOOD VERSUS EVIL
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. They hibernate there in the winter. Winter 2024 it was a mother and two pups. Then a bird moved in spring 2025.
I found this critter when I opened the box to clean it out for this spring. Has a nice stash of walnuts and hickory nuts in there.
They have been feeding at my bird feeders recently. I’ve never noticed them at this time of year, only in the summer.
