Reason I went to school in Plainfield — 3rd grade — was to go to St. Mary’s as parents wanted to send us to parochial school.
At the time we were living in the newly build Crystal Lawns subdivision…and a new public elementary school was built NEXT DOOR to our new house! So starting 4th grade we all were going to public school…saving parents mucho dinero (there were several of us kids 😎). I still participated in little league baseball in Plainfield for a couple years, and we continued to attend St. Mary’s until we moved south to the Springfield area when Dad got a new job there.

Frey has his eye on a bigger role on a national level so he has to pontificate and thump his chest. The other two stooges are trying to keep from being indicted. It is all rather entertaining to watch the theater play out.
My gut hunch is the fraud will start to be in the cross hairs soon and the media will have to start covering it so as to pretend a bit that they are somewhat neutral. We still have an abundance of useless idiots and Karens out there so it will be up to them for the next moves. The cold here -1 does prevent some of the shenanigans.
This riot stuff is all theater to distract from the fraud, but we all see this.
The amount of fraud and how far back this all goes is staggering- and it starts in the states and winds up national and global. So it’s not just about the fraud and the money, it’s the scale of these operations that is mind blowing.
BUT, I’ll have you know, all this same exact stuff is going on in MA, in NY, in all these blue states.
MN is just on the radar right now having it’s moment.
But its my hope that when they get digging, they start learning that none of this is unique to MN and then they get going into all these cities. MA isn’t getting much attention but that state is really bad too.
We’re all really hoping they get into there soon because MA is the epicenter of a whole lot that goes on up here on the east coast. Many of the well trained fraudsters learn their trade in MA and then move into the surrounding states up here to do the same thing all over up here.

13 below here in NH when I got up at 6 this morning.
I went to get my coffee going and saw that the glass of water that was on the window sill with my little plant rooting in it, the water had frozen.
And these are the newer windows in my 230 year old house. (FYI, I can nicely prove that newer windows are not much better than windows from the 1800s.)
We have 60+ year old double hung windows here with 1970s era storm windows on top. And they still do the job fine at 0F.
All that thermal, double-pane stuff in the newer plastic homes can be too ‘tight’. A structure needs to breathe a little, or it develops other problems over time. And all that vinyl and plastic warps in the heat.
Give me brick walls and heavy stick built framing from the old days any day of the week.

My house has been here since before the town was and it ain’t going anywhere.
It’s already outlasting all the newer modular homes at the end of their lifespans that are all around me.
They say those homes have a 34 year lifespan and that seems to be dead on accurate because I watched them all go in and now every single thing they have needs replacing at about exactly 30 or so years; roof, siding, windows, heating systems, flooring, they are dated,, they need it all done over. So it took 30 years to pay for it and now to upgrade the whole thing will cost more than they even paid for these places and it will require another 30 mortgage, yet the values are insane on these ‘used up’ homes. They are severely underwater on all these places. .. what a scam it all is.

There’s “builder spec”, and then there is higher quality.
Today’s builder spec is basically 10-15 year service life garbage. From major appliance to primary systems.
Ask for copper pipes or cast iron waste lines, and they look at you funny. Some don’t even know how to work with the older materials anymore.
A premium quality home heating boiler of conventional design should go for at least 30 years. I’ve got TOTL water softeners and water heaters from back in the day now approaching 20 years service. They still work great. Same with the HVAC, still purring along after 25 years. TOTL that a builder would never use.
Quality up front, and thoughtful MAINTENANCE, are the keys. Scheduled electrical component overhauls, fresh anodes, regular resin cleans, etc.
With many new residences, you get neither.
They just want as much house as they can barely afford. And by “much”, I mean square feet and ceiling height. No matter that it is built like crap.
And all that expensive heat is sitting 10 feet up in the high, overpriced ceilings.

It is a cool story actually, apparently you don’t know it.
I just said that I have MANY windows that are from the 1800s that are still working very well and better in fact than the newer reproduction windows that replaced top of the line Andersons from the 70s that all rotted.
YES as a matter of fact, there is a whole lot in my early house that is damned old now and will never need replacing, like wide pine flooring, it will never need to be replaced usless someone wants to do it- but given how valuable 30″ wide boards are now, I doubt that would happen.
Most everything in these old homes around here will be timeless and classic forever, every single thing in my home is the real deal- solid old growth wood, cast iron, copper, giant forged spikes, everything built with impressive joinery.
Houses today are largely plastics and glues-the wood is even junk– but thanks for playing!
A few years ago we put on a metal roof; we were told it could last 50 years.
Roof might. Fasteners won’t.
The Chinese rubber gaskets the fastener sits in certainly won’t.
The very best fiberglass/asphalt shingles can go 50. So can most metal. That’s essentially the entire time in the house for most families. Not a bad choice at all.
And with a strong roofing structure, you can often double-layer the former on the older residences when the originals reach warranty life. Again, that’s a solid roof for most families for a long time.
But if you want forever roofing, it’s slate, and you never look back. Costs a fortune, and the roof framing needs to be built for the added load.
Only on the best custom builds or the older structures do you ever see that anymore.
TC gets close, but I’m told it’s a little more fragile than the slate, and doesn’t always fit the architectural styles depending on location.
Most neighborhood roofers haven’t a clue about those last two. All they do is whatever GAF or Certainteed supplies them.
I can replace quite a few roofs with quality shingles before I even approach doing it in slate. I priced it to mine and the sticker shock was real.
There are very few roofers anymore around here anyway that know how to do slate.
Slate roofing was going for well over $1500 a square in pre-Covid days- regular asphalt shingles were about $200 a square back at that time.
The thing about slate though is that it is forever, wealthy people are still putting it on.
Roofers that can do good slate work right now around here can pretty much name their price and get it.
My husband retired in 2024, roofer who specialized in slate and tile, copper gutters. It was a very good living, albeit a tough job. Not much new construction, but a lot of churches and old homes. Beautiful work.
Century house, and not one of the fanciest best built ones. We deal with whichever system demands attention.
A standing seam copper roof is going to last well over a 100 years too.. it’s the next best thing after slate.

Built entirely of natural Fir, with old single pane panel windows the only insulation is newspaper like stuff in attic ( likely very un healthy 😉)
It can be a little damp of course and colder when the wind is up
However there is no mould if any, in the place to speak of, always warms up nicely with the wood insert, and a few space heaters.
Warm socks, and sweater are highly recommended in the late fall and winter though.😎and not ideally suited to year round living,( we don’t) but what a testament to “ old school” construction and materials.
When we are not there and visiting friends in a fully carpeted and “ sealed” home it does not “feel right”

I love watching people build with old/ancient methods, and being in those buildings is a unique experience of ‘being-back-in-time’; they have a very different, higher frequency environment.
A lot of that building is taking place in France –
one example is Notre Dame Cathedral; it was restored by the methods that originally built it… these workers are an absolute hive of activity all over France restoring castles & chateaus & churches/chapels that are 1+ to several centuries old.
I’m watching lost arts brought to life… which aren’t lost at all… and it’s mesmerizing; so simple yet so sound.
I’ve been following a few restorations that are employing various degrees of authentic methods – there are criteria for these buildings to be granted entry in the French ‘historic register’ (IDK the French-specific term)

I’ve also shared a private chapel’s painstaking restoration (by some of the Notre Dame craftspersons AND their apprentices) on the open thread over the past couple years.
They searched for almost a year for the old method of producing tiles for their floor, and have found one at last that is currently in 2nd stage of production, after their ph1 samples were produced & approved;
I’ll share over there when they get delivered & craftspersons begin replacing the damaged (1863) floor tiles with the old-method replacements.
start @4:45 (to 10:13) 2+ years ago; architects’ diagnostics & plans on paper, specific photos and what will be done first & why (the roof & the stained glass windows were replaced/restored first to make it water tight previously)
They have accomplished all but the floor & the minimal electrics by now, so when the tiles are ready the floor will be done, then the electrics, then the restoration will be completed. Six hundred fifty thousand euros invested so far, expected to be completed this year.
Their YT channel & patrons have funded it all… and much more – the same restorers (also from the Notre Dame project) have done work in their chateau & grounds as well.
Another project is a chateau near them which was used as a shelter for children during WWII… authentic-methods dominate there too.

1. Don’t use or sell drugs
2. Don’t take things that aren’t yours
3. Don’t assault, attack, strike, etc. other people
4. When the LEO tells you to do something, the correct response is “yessir”, whether you’re “right” or not. Let the lawyers sort it out.
5. Go to church on Sunday. Practice what they preach there.
For every rule you violate (eg 3, 4 for Pretti), your odds of being hurt or killed by a LEO grows exponentially.
This reminds me of the book by Robert Fulghum, “All I really need to know I learned in Kindergarten.”
Following the Ten Commandments will avoid problems and get the follower in the right place as well.
And the Fulghum book was a great read.

We’ve seen an uptick in officer involved shootings, this is happening nationally.
I’ve taught my teens to also even be very aware of their movements, tone of their voice, don’t do anything at all that would be seen as threatening to the police officer- such as a quick dive into the glovebox in front of the officer to get your registration. It’s a good idea to tell him before you do it- using an abundance of caution.
If you are armed, say this right up front so they know.
We have to be super careful now and instantly very aware when in the presence of these police officers and this is just the reality today.
I got pulled over once by a cop who genuinely wanted to tell me that my brake lights were out. (Yikes!! They were!!!)
I stopped the car, turned off the engine, and put both hands in plain sight on top of the steering wheel until she arrived. Then, with one hand, I rolled down the window. Then, with the same hand, I reached into my wallet to pull out my license. It was evening, and that’s when LEOs are at the most risk. The entire encounter was quick and cordial. I drove home very carefully, using hand signals, and immediately replaced the bulbs.
I get out of speeding tickets because I’m always nice, apologetic, and conciliatory with the officers. Not like I get pulled over a lot. Maybe once every 3-4 years.
I get a warning and I tell them I appreciate it and will pay attention better next time.
Same here. I was going 40 in a 25… because I was not minding my business!!! Hubby was in the car. Did exactly as you did. She saw my license was from out of town, gave me a warning and I was on my way. It was nighttime too.

Yes, and it shouldn’t have to be that way. WE shouldn’t have to use an abundance of caution, THEY should have to do that. When I was growing up, the police knew that they were subordinate to the citizens. Now, they have been improperly trained for years that they have a right to use deadly force whenever they want. It used to be that they could only use deadly force IF they saw a gun (not a car, or a phone, or a pillow, or a pencil eraser etc) pointed at them or a third person. Now, if they even “feel threatened” they shoot first, & ask questions never. “Well, they didn’t comply.” and “I’m going home tonight no matter if I have to light someone up unnecessarily.” Full disclosure, I have LEO’s (and military) in my family, and have cop friends. Yes, we argue this point. They say, but, but, but the country has changed, it’s more dangerous. I say, the constitution hasn’t changed. JMHO

Whenever I see people run to the tape like an NFL replay, I’m reminded of this Seinfeld classic:
Mr. Pretti went there looking for trouble. Apparently, his previous fight wasn’t lesson enough. And apparently his family warning him wasn’t lesson enough.
He found trouble, and I don’t lose any sleep over what happened. FAFO.
I believe his encounter with an ICE vehicle in which he kicked off the rear bake light and was confronted by ICE agents but not arrested emboldened him!!!
I’m still baffled why his gun wasn’t confiscated the first time. It was in plain sight for quite a few minutes while he was struggling with them.
The irony is that if he had been arrested and jailed, as he should have been, he would still be alive today.

The only reason Ice agent numbers may decrease is because instead of needing 16 agents to pick up someone in the community, they can send one or two to the jailhouse to get them. Waltz and Frey said they would start handing over criminal illegals to Ice in the jail. Homan also said that this has not taken off the table picking up other illegals, it’s just that the priority are criminal illegals and they have plenty to keep them busy with that.

Whatever the Fed becomes I doubt it will ever impart the mysterious wizardry it once possessed. The damage is done. Jamie Dimon wants to run the Treasury, not the Fed. Currency depreciation is not necessarily a bad thing. Ultimately, it is the exchange rates that dictate those metrics: not just currency exchange, but exchange rates to other assets as well.
A too-strong dollar can be as detrimental as a too-weak one in some exchange situations. A weaker dollar fits well with the current re-industrialization and re-shoring policies of this Administration. America becomes more affordable to the rest of the world, its goods, services and products, and setting up shop and employing labor here.
I agree with his assessment of stock valuation in dollars. Stock is an exchangeable pseudo-currency in that regard, as it is facially based on the economic health of that entity.
A company’s value does not go up when the dollar depreciates, but the number of dollars required to buy a share does.
I always cringe when PDJT keeps touting the DOW average in absolute numbers. It’s a far less meaningful metric when the other monetary factors are excluded from the conversation.
The better gauge of long-term portfolio growth is by comparison to longer-range CPI forecasting and other resultant dollar depreciation variables across the same timeframe.
I will go out and say that inflation and currency depreciation are roughly aligned to the degree of government mis-consumption of the money supply that is diverted and drawn away from more productive economic purposes.
In other words, my hypothetical shares of MSFT are worth more now than they were 10 years ago because the Federal Government spends trillions of taxed and borrowed dollars employing and paying benefits to people who are not as productive to the economy as an industrial worker would be.
In that example, MSFT, and other successful industrial concerns, have been more efficient and productive than the government in that regard.

I briefly worked at a Houston hospital where an OB/Gyn delivered babies of Palestinian parents. The women would fly over a month or so ahead of their due dates. They would have their babies then fly back to the Middle East as soon as they had the preliminary “birth facts” document in hand. The birth facts served as a legal placeholder and ID to fly while waiting the six weeks or so for the official birth certificate.
