President Trump’s Border Czar, Tom Homan, arrived in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday. Today he gives a press conference following meetings with the Minnesota governor and Minneapolis mayor.
Mr Homan said he is now supervising the capture and removal of all criminal aliens from the Minneapolis region. ICE agents together with Customs and Border Patrol officials will continue operations throughout the region and the governor and mayor have given their assurances they will no longer attempt to interfere with capture, detainment and removal efforts.

Going after criminal illegals immunizes Trump from Democrat attacks. People support what he’s doing because murderers, rapists, gang members and drug dealers are being arrested. It also forces Democrats to argue that these criminals should not be arrested, which is totally crazy.
Getting to the criminals also lowers crime rates in a visible way. So people see that connection clearly.
Illegals who aren’t otherwise breaking us laws (other than by breaking into the country) see this. Many will self deport because they’re afraid of getting caught.
Trump also seals off the border so few if any are getting in. The net population of illegals goes down because outflows >> inflows.
In the courts, of course birthright citizenship is on the table. But wisely, Trump is focused forward, not back, which makes him sound like the reasonable on.

Going after criminal aliens first, and plain ole illegal aliens incidentally to that is what BP and ICE were doing in Minneapolis since Metro Surge started.
Even with them focusing on criminal illegals, the locals, with mayor and gov cheering them on, rioted, interfered, and resisted. In both shootings, the agents were attempting to arrest felony level criminal illegal aliens. But were confronted by the rioters with sufficient force that things turned deadly.
Bovino and his BP contingent have been pulled out under this “recalibration”, but the locals don’t seem to have recalibrated much, if any at all.
I think both sides interpret that phrase differently.

I think that a tool that has not been fully used to support mass deportations would be to announce that we are going to step-up prosecution of individuals and companies that hire illegals. The laws to do this are already on the books. This would require the installation of a hotline that would have to be called to check on legal status of prospective employees. If this is done in conjunction with the volunteer buyout that is currently being offered…then that would be just one more tool that would reinforce of the implementation of our laws.
This was addressed in a previous comment with Karl Denninger. It won’t happen IMO.
Before this snowballs into a Chicken Little moment, as I’ve observed on various conservative sites, “targeted” immigration enforcement does NOT mean giving a wink and a nod to people who are here illegally who are otherwise low priority. But with limited resources you have to have a priority list of who you concentrate on first. Pell-mell, helter skelter immigration “enforcement” is fine if your end goal is simply to give them all a pass into the country to increase Democrat numbers. But it takes a little more of a plan to destroy that kind of madness and actually see the law enforced. And that is what the administration is doing now.
As Tom Homan has stated, no one in this country who is here illegally is off the table – no one. But not everyone has to be targeted via an ICE raid. And thus the hundreds of thousands of invaders who’ve been induced to leave voluntarily so that limited resources can be devoted, instead, to the violent recalcitrants who refuse to depart. When the adults are in charge, a weighing necessarily takes place about what can be done in what time frame with the limited resources at hand, all with the goal of what produces the safest outcome for American citizens. But the response to this planning and weighing, with too many on our side who should know better suggesting that Trump has surrendered on immigration, is tiring and so typical of how we operate. In that respect, people on our side can be as tedious as on the Left. If things don’t go exactly as we envisioned it, in the order we envisioned it, then we throw up our hands and say they’re not serious, “I’m staying home during the mid-terms!” I’ve gotten weary of the silliness.
In a Republic, “adults in the room” is not just a reference to the people in charge, but also the grassroots, the “We the People” who make this country run. That comment was directed at Bovino. He is BP, and Homan is ICE. ICE is supposed to be over interior enforcement, and Border Patrol over border enforcement, although the statutory authorities of both are near identical. There is longstanding rivalry and jockeying for position between the two agencies.
ICE has offices all along the border, and there’s overlap and competition for cases and stats. There’s intricate memorandums of understanding to keep things somewhat under control.
Bovino and crew going to Chicago, NC, Minneapolis etc was a big bureaucratic threat to ICE.
Bovino was getting lots and lots of airtime and photo ops, and the “old guard” status quo government bureaucrat types used the last shooting to get him shut down.

Mr. Homan reiterated throughout that the onus is on the locality to allow ICE to pick up aliens from jails. Period and full stop. Nothing else happens, nothing gets out of control, it’s just a day on the job transferring inmates. No drama. It is enforcing the same federal laws on the books throughout his service to the last six presidents.
In MN, clearly by both word and action leading up to today, the localities experiencing the riots, with the full support of the state, willfully prevented ICE from doing this otherwise mundane task by purposely releasing them onto the streets.
So here we are at reality. ICE is not going to pull back. Mr. Homan said so many times. He is assessing the operation in real time and making what he sees are necessary changes to further support the mission at hand. Anyone who sees that as retreat has never run a business or large organization.
In the theater. Another point Mr. Homan made as to the reality of the organized and funded chaos happening. It is a theater of dangerous and violent operations day in and day out for months on end under levels of stress maximized by the press. It is necessary to rotate people regularly.
Finally, Mr. Homan did not say illegal aliens without additional crimes will not be deported. Again, anyone who runs a large organization knows every single part of the mission must be prioritized. Of course the worst criminals and former insane asylum inmates must go first. There are plenty to keep all of ICE busy for the foreseeable future. The rest will be dealt with too.
Again – a task made much easier without the interference of sanctuary policies. Self created problems that get unfairly laid at the feet of The President in a never ending series of “I speak for MAGA and I demand….” Pretending not to know certain things, I digress.
Regardless, Mr. Homan and by extension, Mr. President, is not pulling back on the mission. The mission continues until it is done. How that gets done is fluid based on an ever changing atmosphere on the ground. Again – reality.
I appreciated Mr. Homan also reminding the circus clowns that protesting ICE for enforcing federal law is completely misplaced, as it is CONgress who makes the laws the activists and their media helpers so despise. “Go protest in front of Congress.”
The entire press conference was an exercise in Stop Pretending Not To Know Certain Things, Stop Making Stuff Up The Job Gets Done Much Faster.
