I cannot know all the complexities but here is my take on this action. More 4D chess on an international diplomatic scale.
Besides funneling drugs into the US, when Maduro stole the election he illegally took over US oil company wells, lots of them, that those companies had drilled and developed under a lease agreement.
This raid was undertaken hours after Maduro had a meeting with a delegation from Communist China. The Chinese delegation was still in country. This action will really shake up the Chinese, Russian, Cuba, Turkey, Iran nexus. He has also put down a marker to all the other Cartels and the countries harboring them.
This action has also made it clear to the Iranian government, now under siege from it’s own people, that Trumps threat to take action if they fire on the peaceful protestors is not empty posturing. Already there are reports from people in Iran that Mullahs are changing into regular clothes and driving out of the Tehran and larger cities.
If Iran falls it will be a huge loss for China, Russia, and Turkey. But a big win for all the Arab nations in the region.
It is far past the expiration date for Cuba’s communist regime, which is majorly supported by Venezuelan oil supply given the embargoes.
If we are lucky, the domino will finally fall, and Cuba can return to a democratic republic. US money will flow in and there will be incredible amount of economic opportunities. If Trump can prevent the usual grifting (sorry Puerto Rico) , this will be a boon to US industry.

We had a similar experience in Cuba, however, voices were low and we would walk and talk. In Cuba we traveled with our daughter and husband, again to small towns, Our daughter is fluent in Spanish. On our exit from Cuba at the airport I was pulled aside for extra interview. The questions were all about TRUMP and what he would think of Cuba…. I spoke the truth and was back slapped with big grins, and hearty handshakes by the airport interrogators. My family was terrified for me. All good can come from the action in Venezuela.

For a leader of another country to be determined to perpetually poison another country’s society…no matter what…is enough for me to want them reined in. There are Presidents of countries and there are Fathers of countries. Trump is the latter and he runs the country like our own fathers would.

Perhaps it is news to you, but neither Maduro nor any cartel member or drug salesperson is holding a gun to the head of the kids in Miami or NYC or LA as they are lining up a pile of cocaine for consumption.
Drug dealers and cartels sell their products to willing buyers. These are voluntary market transactions. As long as there are willing buyers with cash, drug supplies will flow into the US and we can blow up fishing boats and invade nations and carpet bomb coca fields — like we’ve been doing for 50 expensive futile years — and the drugs will continue to flow into the US.
The buyers and users do not think they are buying ‘poison’ good grief is it possible to have an adult conversation about drug use and its benefits, and costs, instead of hysterical alarmist exaggerations about how drugs will created a nation of addicts and kill millions? (b/c they don’t do any of these things).

Further, very few people die or OD from cocaine. Maybe 20-25,000 annually.
Alcohol kills about 175,000 annually. Several times greater than cocaine, and much larger than street fentanyl. Not supporting any of them, just facts and relative numbers.
