I think at its core this is really fear on the part of Israel that U.S. citizens are more and more realizing the irrelevance of Israel to the core interests of the United States. Without the United States as its protector its future as an independent state is at risk.

Although alarming on the face of it, I’d be reassured by the statement because it means a tiny group of people, who exercise a massively disproportionate amount of power over our everyday lives, are scared of people who they’ve spent their entire lives insulating themselves from. Good, ‘bout time.

Add into that mix, a growing movement of Christian nationalism and resurgence of more traditional forms of Christianity (non-protestant) here in the states, along with the decline of pro-Israel evangelicalism, we’re looking at some very interesting changes ahead.
