RUSSIA ABANDONS VENEZUELA
Russia has begun evacuating its citizens from Venezuela and has halted flights to Caracas amidst US threats. Why it matters: Russia is one of President Nicolás Maduro’s closest allies. If they’re pulling out… that signals how serious and unstable the situation has become for his regime.

If Russia is abandoning Venezuela, that is the end of BRICS expansion. If American can pick off any small country that dares to resist, there will be no resistance. It might be that Russia figures that things are going to get wild down there and just wants it’s people safe.
But if instead, Russia and China step up in Venezuela it’s trouble for US. China has a new hypersonic ballistic anti shipping missile and a new hypersonic wave skimming anti shipping missile. There are already S-300 systems and a few S-400’s would be a nightmare for us. A perfect opportunity to use Alinsky’s rule #3, Make them live by their own rules. As in “It’s Venezuela attacking the US, not us. Just like it is not you attacking Russia in Ukraine.”
But if Russia and China can pull that off, say by sinking 3 or more US Navy vessels (that special forces support ship is both close and a big fat target) and take down a few F-35’s, it would show the world a new pathway away from Empire. Worst case, they find a way to seriously attrit our air tanker fleet. By the way, China has a new long rand missile for taking out tankers and AWACS planes at great distance. We can’t build more and the existing tankers are aging out, any losses would crush our ability to project air power. Second worst, we shoot a big portion of our very limited Tomahawk missiles and have none left for peer to peer fun with China.
All said, it would seem time for a national conversation about risks, costs, benefits and exit strategies. Really big stakes for using a 20+ year old military authorization of force that was created for a conflict half a world away.
You are stating that if Russia and China declare war on the US, it would be problems for the US. Well, yeah, but that’s not exactly a news flash. But it would be SERIOUS problems for Russia and China too, and they know it.
I think your wet dream has been considered and rejected as improbable in the run up to the operation.
Trumpeter said nothing about Russia and/or China declaring war on the USA. Those S 300 and S 400 AA systems are “Venezuelan,” don’t ya know? Just like those burned out Leopard 3 and M1A1 Abrams hulks on the Steppes of Donetsk are “Ukrainian.” I agree It is somewhat risky to speculate, but as always, we will see what happens, and then go from there. At least Trumpeter has enough imagination to dream, you seem to only have enough to spout the CIA/Pentagon Party Line.
