The loss of not doing anything is far greater than any loss caused by him being prosecuted and found guilty.
The damage to the military by their actions and to our nation by the continual illegal actions by members of the government are very far reaching and are more likely than not to lead to the end of our nation as it was founded or even as we know it today (which isn’t as it was founded by quite a bit). It will only continue to get ever worse with each unchecked seditious and treasonous action and corrupt or illegal crime committed – just as the crime in cities without law enforcement continues to spiral out of control (see NYC as an example).
There is also the very high probability that if it continues unchecked that people will begin to take matters into their own hands – and that path leads to a darkness few can imagine.
As a side note – quite frankly, I don’t give one iota what “they” have to say about a President doing their job per the Constitution and enforcing the actual laws on the books and meting out real blind justice. They are going to make crap up and say it anyway, just as they have been doing – just as they did in this exact case. Better to do the right thing and be lambasted than not do anything and still be lambasted.
