This is interesting, Trump proposes 50-year mortgage. Graham’s got some good thoughts and makes the point there is no savings with a 50-year mortgage. At the end of the video he gives some great ways to get some inventory ont he market:
increase capital gains amount from $500k to $1 million and then adjust every year with CPI , allow transfer of mortgage with home owner to new property if trading up and increase interest write-off. I’m with Graham on this one after seeing the numbers

Look at Trump Term 1, low interest rates, booming economy and almost no inflation – like near 0% or negative in some areas and at or below the 2% target.
Sorry, but we don’t need more debt for the rest of our lives — which will only raise the price of houses. We need the price of houses to come back down to pre-covid levels. Houses and rents have doubled and tripled, while incomes have not.
Instead, President Trump needs to address the predatory investors like Blackrock. (Why is he so silent about it?) They have been buying up affordable single family homes, painting them 50 shades of gray, and then jacking up the price by double or triple. Or driving up rents by renting them out at double or triple the former going rate. Rep. MTG has an excellent tweet about that (not sure how to get the tweet to display):
I don’t like 50 year mortgages as the solution to the housing affordability crisis. It will ultimately reward the banks, mortgage lenders. and home builders while people pay far more in interest over time and die before they ever pay off their home. In debt forever, in debt for life!
Instead stop companies and asset managers from buying up single family homes, which has driven the price of homes and forced homebuyers to compete with corporations that turn thousands of homes into permanent rental homes. Let people with a good rent history qualify for mortgages.
And.. PASS MY BILL – NO CAPITAL GAINS TAXES ON THE SALE OF YOUR PRIMARY HOME. This will help people keep the equity they have earned owning their home for a very long time and likely allow them to lower the price of their home for sale since they won’t be paying taxes after they sell their home. It really will help seniors sell their houses and keep their equity, which also in turn gives them money they need and that gets put back in the economy.

Here in Silicon Valley they buy houses then let them sit empty for years. Only sign of life is the gardening crews. Presumably the owners are paying the property taxes, roughly $10-12K per year on average. Apparently the appreciation in value over time is worth it. FYI I live in a 1955 house with 1380 square feet and a 6000 foot lot, and it’s worth about $1.7 to $1.8M. I bought it in 2005 for $705K. So you can see the potential for appreciation here.
I get texts nearly every week asking if I want to sell, and they don’t name a realty company. I assume they are buyers for Chinese, Blackrock, or some other investors. According to my insurance company, the house is worth $250K and the rest is land. Even if the house falls down in an earthquake, they can just build a better house and make money.

your “appreciating” dollars will be worth far less when you go to use them in the future than they were in 2005

The House is in no mood to agree with this Senate deal. They passed a fair deal with a clean CR. Be interesting to see how many Dem Senators they get to agree with this deal to pass it. If it’s only a minimal number of them, then most House Dems will be against it, and so will many House conservatives.
I see this as setting up the Republican-controlled Senate for failure. They pass this trojan horse and the House rejects it. Now the Republicans in the Senate will feel they have to cave further with some other ridiculous deal that will ultimately get enough House Democrats to get it passed in the House.
It reverses RIFs of less than 10,000 actual govt employees which would have not become formal unless the govt. remained closed for a total of 60 days after the RIF notices were given by OMB Director Russ Vought. So not as big a win as it seems for the demons.

Some information about New Mexico and the SNAP snafu:
The NM Governor had already set up 30% SNAP payments, or a minimum of $100 for disabled/elderly, using State funds, so no one in NM has gone without. NM disburses SNAP over the first twenty days of the month, but she only made arrangements for partial payments through 11/10/2025. The Governor reportedly ordered another special legislative session for 11/10/2025.
The Supreme Court stayed the full payments order on 11/07/2025 at 9:29 PM ET, according to online reports.
According to a recipient, the EBT website shows New Mexico deposited the full normal monthly amount of $298 on November 07, 2025 at 09:47 PM MT (11:47 PM ET). This person had already received a partial payment, so now they have been “overpaid”. This person won’t touch it “until the dust settles”.
