I caught some of this on BBC this morning and they cut away after President Trump mentioned Voter ID and the law in California that prevents people being asked for their ID. The stupid woman fact checked and said this was a lie… that ID is required everywhere in the US!!!! I couldn’t believe it…
Just a few days ago a federal judge ruled President Trump could not require proof of citizenship to vote.
And Voter ID is done by states.

I agree, but my son, a Lieutenant in the Army, will not get paid. He worked hard in high school to earn a college scholarship, working summers, earning good grades, and being an outstanding high school swimmer. And my other son also earned a swim scholarship and an ROTC scholarship, and he will not be paid either. I’m so sick of all this childish behavior from both sides, and none of it seems remotely like an emergency to anyone in Congress. My kids are dedicated to doing well in their Army careers, and Congresspeople still earn paychecks while hardworking people like my kids don’t. After 36 days, where is the emergency to make sure the country’s protectors receive their pay? As you can see, this frustrates me.
Congress doesn’t care who isn’t getting paid while the shutdown goes on. They are getting paid. The parasites.

So, reading today’s Coffee&Covid, it appears they’d only be getting rid of the silent filibuster, reverting back to the speaking filibuster, which no one wants to do. I had no idea. Excerpts:

I agree with President Trump’s remarks here. But why would he call for the elimination of the filibuster, while standing in front of the cameras and a room full of Republican Senators, knowing he did not have the votes? Moreover, Sen. Thune walked out and said it wasn’t going to happen.

I think your hunch is correct. He’s giving them the opportunity to do the right thing, using plan A. But any intelligent person has an optional plan B C or D.
