In a significant response to a direct Chinese trade action, President Trump has announced a 100% retaliatory tariff against China effective November 1st.
President Trump Via Truth Social – “It has just been learned that China has taken an extraordinarily aggressive position on Trade in sending an extremely hostile letter to the World, stating that they were going to, effective November 1st, 2025, impose large scale Export Controls on virtually every product they make, and some not even made by them. This affects ALL Countries, without exception, and was obviously a plan devised by them years ago. It is absolutely unheard of in International Trade, and a moral disgrace in dealing with other Nations.
Based on the fact that China has taken this unprecedented position, and speaking only for the U.S.A., and not other Nations who were similarly threatened, starting November 1st, 2025 (or sooner, depending on any further actions or changes taken by China), the United States of America will impose a Tariff of 100% on China, over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying. Also on November 1st, we will impose Export Controls on any and all critical software.
It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is History. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

This is what we voted for!!! Bring all industry back home!!!
And if PDJT FIRES all those useless federal Employees , then we have the necessary labor force for these new businesses. A win win all the way around.
If you ran a business, would you hire someone who’s been getting paid to sit at home for work for the past few years?
On an individual basis, I would consider them, but most wouldn’t get past the resume phase.
Agreed. I’ve worked in both private industry and governments. At least half of the government workers couldn’t make it in private industry where you are held accountable for your productivity; never mind the good days of actually punching a time clock!
Only 20% of the government workforce is needed, but 100% of them think they are “vital”. Talked to one GS-9 ($55,000) at the V.A. today in Chicago who tells veterans about how proud she is to be at the same desk 9 years.
She probably likens herself to being a (female) ‘Cincinattus at the bridge’, who holds out against great odds, & prevents the bad guys from upsetting the status quo…
What those VA civilians are best at is preventing Veterans from getting the help they need.
For the past six months I’ve been going through a reevaluation of my disabilities and it has been a goat-rope.
These people have no incentive to do any work, much less be proactive and concerned with the impact on the Veterans they are paid to serve.
We served proudly back in the ’60’s/’70s as we were called for the draft! My dad was part of the Greatest Generation of WWII and I could not dirty that line! So I served proudly in Vietnam! I didn’t agree with it, but I served the best I could and gave it my all! A lot of my peers went to college to get out of the draft and took up Liberal Arts degrees! To me, that spoke volumes about character!
I have heard various stories about government workers. One was about a new civil engineer who was told by his co-workers to slow down because he was working too hard and he was going to make everyone look bad.
When I was first married I worked at the post office during Christmas and there was a black woman who saw a box marked “fragile” and she threw it as far and hard as she could and then said LOUDLY “they can’t fire me – I’m black”.
Most of those people have no concept of accountability – they get paid for following rules, not their accomplishments. I always thought it was a rotten way to spend your life.
Morals and character count in life! My dad told me at a young age that he cared less what I wanted to do, but do it honestly! My dad was a street sweeper in the depression era! Then went into the Merchant Marines then To the Army and retired as a Major due to disability. He laid out an example for me to follow, bless he and mom!
Valour, and virtue, thank you for serving our country, it matters more than unfortunately most realize.
As a naval officer whose duties included managing the civilian workforce, I can’t agree with your “stories” and among other things I wrote performance evaluations. It’s true that it is difficult to remove poor performers, but that makes up just a small fraction of the workforce.
Now some things like “merit pay” that was introduced under Carter don’t really work well in the federal environment, at least in my experience. But I could reward some hard-working junior people with things like a QSI (quality step increase — the gift that keeps on giving).
Yes there were some folks with various disabilities in GS-3/4 jobs who wouldn’t be hired in private industry. But as my civilian deputy put it “probably better to have them working here rather than at home on welfare”. At least they had to show up on time daily.
Time clocks are demeaning. I remember running down the sidewalk in front of Universal Studios in high heels and a mink jacket trying to make the time clock on the day of our Xmas party…
Of course it depends on the industry. In mine (computer software), it means you’re not wasting money on cubicles and “class-A.”
They will learn I’ve had to take many Army guys and turn them into the hardest work out there they simply need direction. Hard Rock Gold Mining in Alaska Fort Knox for those who want to see. They do show up training takes a bit when you have the patience it’s a great deal. LOVE Thy Neighbors Jesus last command. -60 F. 12 hour days Mobil Maintenence.
Your post makes little sense.
no problem understanding him here.
You must not speak laskin.😁
Worked on a bombing range at Blaire Lakes,Alaska. Minus 60 degrees. Sheesh. Like running a bulldozer on Mars!!
The issue isn’t Lazy Federal Employees, it’s about Federal Employee Managers who ALLOW it.
And Pres. Trump’s business experience has always been about turning things around… and succeeding with Aplomb.
its about govt UNIONS.
The Feds are “right to work”. Unions will state they “represent” X number of employees. That’s because by law they represent everyone in the bargaining unit, even though only a small fraction may actually pay dues and care about the union.
Unions can’t negotiate the big things, so they fight over little things. Most important to them seems to be paid time for union officials and space for them. Other than that it’s things like where smokers are allowed to smoke or how cubicles are arranged.
My father was a manager for the FAA for 16 years and retired in 1976. He used to get so frustrated with some people under him and their lack of work ethic. He used to lament that it would take an act of Congress to fire them except Congress doesn’t do anything either. It certainly wasn’t because he didn’t try to make them accountable. Some of them were good employees also.
You are right.
Excellent comment Slumgullion.
Does your “Slumgullion” have anything to do with the Slumgullion slide near Lake City Colorado in the San Juan mountians?
Merit based manufacturing will not hire entitled former government union freeloaders. They are toxic to a workforce.
But when you are hungry, your wife wants to divorce you because you are not taking care of the family, a lot of Federal Employees will change their thinking.
That is doubtful. A person like that would have an extremely difficult time getting past their entitlement attitude.
My IT career was spent mostly in manufacturing. I’ve seen what unions can do to employee morale. Laws passed by CONgress regarding unions have to be at least modified if not done away with altogether.
My last job was with a local government; I was going to retire in a few years and I thought, how bad could it be? During the interview process I was told they were looking for private sector experience to bring in new ways of thinking. OMG!!!! NO THEY WEREN’T!!!!! Everyone wanted to keep the status quo. At least half of the administrative employees were not needed at all. At least 20% of those in operations and first responders were just taking up space and oxygen.
I was so happy the day I retired. If I owned a business or was a manager in a business I would be very wary of hiring any that worked more than 2 or 3 years in gubmint. Poor work ethic and attitude and do not understand merit performance at all.
There is a “culture” of government workers and it isn’t a good one. However there are still some good people therein.
There are but they are very few and far between.
I wouldn’t be hiring some of those slugs. There are some in the government that are ok, but probably 2 thirds that are dead wood with “make-your-own” degrees
I agree and I used to work for the govt. …..
Zing!!!
Is that like telling them they need to learn how to code?
Sadly this is take years and years.
and disenroll all chinese students now
I applaud this move. I hope that the U.S. will begin extricating economically from the CCP controlled China. We must become.as self sufficient as possible. And remember you can never trust the communists.
Exactly, . . great idea in Washington to have China as a trading partner.
Remember, it was Jimmy Carter who gave Chine ‘Most Favored Nation’ status.
True – 2nd worst president in history. But it was Nixon and Kissinger that opened up the markets to China and took us off the gold standard.
True, and it was Bill & Hillary who gave China advanced missile technology and computer technology.
I’d love to look at the detailed personal bank records for all of the above.
We Left the gold standard with Roosevelt ’13, LBJ with the silver standard in ‘6o’s? We need to bring that standard back! Eff this Digital currency BS! Get government out of the equation!
Apologies for the shorthand when I used the term “off the Gold Standard”. He closed the Gold window in 1971 ending the direct convertibility of dollars into gold at a fixed price of $35 an ounce. While not technically a Gold Standard, it did anchor the value of the dollar in terms of gold. It effectively ended the Bretton Woods construct. The latter had pegged the value of other currencies to the value of the dollar, and had given stability to exchange rates and the beneficial limitations on monetary and fiscal policy for decades.
That was UniParty then, “birds of a feather”, now Trump has separated with an example! What a gift he handed us!
Nixon opened the doors to it.
Don’t forget about all the farmland china bought up here in the good,ole,U.S.A.! Kick em out Mr.Prez!
Imminent Domain…Take back our Ports as well.
Walmart could be history!!!
On another thread, I mentioned that we pay for illegals health care 3 times over…state and federal taxes, over priced health care and meds, bloated insurance premiums…
Almost everything used in your hospital stay, is made in china. So there goes your hospital bill…unless something self corrects?
But while I meditate on this…across the country, we have warehouses that are given a designation as being “bonded” and the products within, I believe are inventoried, and are handled (taxes and tariffs?) in a different manner than products coming in say after November 1. Am hoping if China becomes a problem for us, this aspect will keep the high costs away before things settle down.
Made in America for Americans first…!
Manufacturing will commence here as though we are at war, which we are, an economic war. There are many plants that were shut down that can be refurbished to meet new standards and machinery.
I’ve talked with people in the U.S. steel industry that have been in China and done business there. Most were shocked at what they saw. Most steel in chyyynnnaaaa is produced in mom and pop type shops. The metal quality is fair, at best. Same for some electronics, which is why LG and others that sell chinese crap have such a bad rep, the stuff doesn’t last and breaks.
Those factories in Taiwan that make the worlds chips…..this is the apple of China’s eye. If the US could get them to relocate here in the US as protection…..China would have no reason to invade ….jmo
What about the Chinese goods coming our way thru Vietnam, etc. ?
And thru Mexico big time and disguised
The internal latch on my microwave broke almost a year ago after 18 years of service.
I want to replace it with a microwave that is made in America.
Waiting, waiting.
replace the latch while you can still get parts
I can’t get it open to fix it.
Sounds like a job opening for an American handyman!
Duct tape, baling wire, metal coat-hanger, ten-penny nails, hardware-store springs, Autozone bulk wire, butt connectors, epoxy, insulated wire, a soldering iron, chopsticks, multimeter ……
Where there’s a will, there’s a way 😉
Some things are still fixable. Got to open it up and think outside the box
Walt Kowalski would approve!
Red Green would approve.
Amana, GE Appliances, Dacor, Whirlpool, Maytag, and Viking Range are among the brands that manufacture microwaves in the U.S. Amana produces its commercial microwaves in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, while GE Appliances manufactures many of its built-in and over-the-range models at its plant in Louisville, Kentucky .
So we’re still going to allow in their 600,000 college students to steal our research and try to kill us?
I think the 60k students was a carrot for Xi. Trump will rescind and kick them all out now
And sent back the pandas we are renting. I never understood that.
Let us hope the Chinese H1B visas are stopped.
this drop in stocks is going to hurt so spread the pain to them too.
It’s going to be over in a week or 2. Buy the dip.
600,000
Trump says he’d allow 600,000 Chinese students into US, sparks MAGA backlash | AP News
That may be something else to consider, stop research technology expertise being passed on to China through the student program.
All Chinese nationals should be evicted from schools (Spies) and in all research (Spies-thieves) and its beyond time to stop the 56+ billion in housing they have bought and go deeper and confiscate all businesses owned and take them over after confiscation of all land purchased.
I have never heard of a Chinese student or Canadian car jacking an American.
Kick them out too!
I am wondering how this affects Elon, Amazon and Gates. I believe they have businesses there. Will their manufacturing be prevented from export elsewhere?
Tough.
Who cares?
🚨 BREAKING: U.S. Trade Rep. Jamieson Greer just sent a CHILLING warning to China after Trump announced a 100% increase in tariffs!
“I think they miscalculated what they have done here.”
Trump’s just getting started. It looks like we are getting into a trade war with China.
Yep, we really showed those Chinese…
Tech megacaps lose $770 billion in value as Nasdaq suffers steepest drop since April

Short term pain will reap long term rewards.
The US cannot be dependent on an adversary for resources or manufactured goods essential to America.
So your portfolio is more important than America First?
Yes
America First means giving Israel $31b in the last two years while air traffic controllers are not being paid
What?? Air traffic controllers haven’t been paid for 2 years!!????? Maybe what you meant to say is that the controllers may not have been paid for nearly 2 WEEKS, while Israel has been given $31b over the last 2 YEARS. In actuality, the 2 events are not related. You MIGHT have a point IF Israel is at present, during the shutdown, still receiving the ‘big’ bucks……..along with the Ukraine (which strangely you didn’t mention) and other foreign governments.
Just take the train AOC promised to build
I’m waiting for the California bullet train….
Bakersfield to Tulare!
Which parallels CA-99, so you might be able to grab a high-speed bus, if there’s an issue..
It was always designed to transport illegals into our country for agriculture.
Seriously? They got paid. They will get paid. Israel has nothing to do with what China just unleashed on every country.
same old same old. always the jew.
What did we do to provoke China? How about we refuse to let them buy Nvidia semiconductor chips so they retaliate with rare earth minerals? It goes both ways, Cjzak.
We didn’t “do” anything to them.
China took over strategic global manufacturing and supply chain including rare earths, over about 40+ years.
“We” let them do this for various reasons, a combination of greed and loss of competencies driven by social engineering forcing identity class “equity” in all spheres including education.
They have strategic control now with real industry. They can weather US tariffs while expanding global markets and geopolitical alliances countering the US axis, and they continue to grow their industrial/scientific power as the US axis is sputtering.
The apparent trade wars are actually just steps in a long-term Plan to sink the US axis and raise the China axis.
Export controls on software? That’s all the US has left? Trump’s bluster is revealing.
Rare earth deposits were located on the last island in the Alaskan Aleution southern chain, and . Environmentalists have fought activity for twenty years. It has been reported that the Pentagon has a stake in the game and it still can do nothing.
Do you know what is actually going on in the china economy? Business people committing suicide? This may be a desperation Move by Xi. I will wait and see. In the meantime citizens must do their part in this war with china.
and here is another post. How about getting rare earth minerals here and not there? How about their control of the EV market and idiots here bought into it. How about solar panels here why they do , what 100 coal fired plants a year. Pharmacuticals? We are our own worst enemy and President Trump seems to be taking that away. You’d better believe their will be pain. I’m all in for it.
Get it?
Add the $300 billion we’ve given to Ukraine according to President Trump!
Dear Apologist for everything wrong in the world and ally of those who wish America ill.
The Chinese government is the one that decreed that their companies can’t use ANY chips from NVidia.
Try harder.
The two are not related .
There’s too much of the money supply tied up in Wall Street anyway. We need it back here on Main Street. Wall Street is not the economy.
Exactly !!!
“I guess you don’t know how tariffs work”
American importers pay the tariff at the port of entry. Tariffs are not paid by foreign governments they are ultimately paid by American consumers.
Thanks for proving Harry’s point…
If they buy.
One word: “Bubble!”
No real value was therefore lost, only a fake, bubble value, which is NOT “value”!
thats the faint start a spiral buy in selectively later. There is little association with reality and stock prices. It is appearance of value rising or falling being manipulated by big players.
No one cared when Main street took a beating.
Disappointing quarterly reports from Tesla (TSLA.O), opens new tab and Google-parent Alphabet (GOOGL.O), opens new tab sparked a crushing market selloff on Wednesday, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite falling 3.6% in its worst day since October 2022. The benchmark S&P 500 slumped 2.3%, with the earnings reports causing concerns about upcoming results from the other big tech firms.
President Donald Trump announced on Friday, October 10, 2025, that the United States will impose an additional 100% tariff on all imports from China, effective November 1, 2025, or sooner depending on China’s actions.
Point being, tech stocks started tanking prior to President Trumps additional 100% tariff announcement.
Accordingly your “Yep, we really showed those Chinese…” post is intellectually dishonest.
The Market drop was yesterday (Friday) at 10:00AM East Coast Time!
I have noticed a pattern with your posts……..No cliff jumping yet, OK?
I just checked my portfolio this morning and I actually made money after the dust settled on Friday.
I guess you just don’t know how the market works.
Head to Harbor Freight Tools tomorrow and grab any big items you need, and try to use the 20% coupon. Last time I looked, they still had them in the back of Popular Mechanics magazine. Buy the mag, save $50. This may not be over cleanly. Prices may lurch upward but not fully correct.
My gut sense is that things will get more expensive because we are losing the slave labor, child labor and human trafficked labor.
I’m okay with that.
We buy lots of “stuff” we don’t need because it is so cheap.
I don’t mind the idea of paying more to buy better quality – which lasts longer and is worth getting repaired – like our parents and grandparents did.
Slave, child and trafficked labor are evil.
And China’s goal is to make you and I their slaves
It’s time to take back all that US land China has been buying.
It’s possible that China was not trying to hurt us economically, but instead, as preparation for war. If that’s the case the tariffs won’t have much effect. But I hope I’m wrong.
When will the WTO slap China ?
How about the world go back to a WTO without China and become better off
They won’t because chyyynnnaaa owns the WTF, and WHO, WEF, etc.
This is epic Trump. SCOTUS has yet to rule, so he doubles down. You’re either with him 100% or against him. He doesn’t wait for court hearings.
The irony is that if they do NOT support Trump’s plans, they automatically support China with their new cost increases.
Trump doubling down is not only brilliant, but necessary.
Trump hits back.
Hard.
And since Trump led, other countries will follow.
China will have to fold.
Seems to me China blocking all export of rare earth minerals needed for defense should easily pass the “National emergency “ criteria of the law Trump used to lay on tariffs.
I’m reminded of articles like this:
https://www.mainepublic.org/2021-10-25/a-1-5-billion-lithium-deposit-has-been-discovered-in-western-maine-but-mining-it-could-be-hard
The lithium in NE Texas and SW Arkansas should be easy enough to reach. It is in the brine in the Smakover formation.
Drill a well. Pump. Extract lithium. Send my immediate family and extended family members the royalty checks.
Let’s get ‘er done.
The Mohave Desert has a lot of it too.
The sky is falling environmental regulations and CCP artificially supported imports killed rare-earth mining in the U.S.
Mainers are just not allowed to have nice things. Any significant developments that would bring more business and long-term prosperity to most of the State that is. Guess the purpose and function of the State is to be the vacation land for people from away with money *sigh*.
The only practical way to mine that seam is a open-pit mine. Which means instant hostility when watermelons hear of it disturbing nature. Completely ignoring the fact that reclamation would be conducted after the lithium bearing minerals are exhausted.
“Watermelons” ?
Old term. Still works.
Green (think climate change) on the outside, Communist red on the inside.
Hopefully solar panels and wind energy 200 percent. Then same for anyone selling coal and lithium to China. Hello Canada and Australia. China is the world’s number one enemy.
So you would kneecap Australia in pursuit of kneecapping China, which has a massive population to feed. You would feel great about starving Chinese?
The reality is that the whole world is finely balanced on trade. However because of decisions taken after WW2 the US was similtaneously helping the European countries financially to get on their feet, and being excluded from fair trading with them.
Then there were decisions made by US presidents to admit China to World Trade Organisations which allowed China an advantage over US and other Western Nations like Australia which went free trade and lost most of its industry to China and all Australia has left is the export of coal, iron ore etc to keep its economy above water.
Pres Trump is trying to reset all of this which is admirable but there of course will be pushback from China but it doesn’t help to suggest that bringing allies down into poverty is the solution.
The CCP doesn’t care about starving Chinese.
True GordonT.
We are not starving anyone but ourselves, the CCP starves it’s own people.
China has decided it no longer wants to be our allie.
They never were our ally.
You think the Chinese are losing sleep over out of work Americans?
“Conspiracy theory” has long said that Australian authorities have been trying to remove Aborigines from certain ancestral lands because they happen to live atop massive rare-earth deposits. Supposedly Aborigines were vacated under Nazi-like Covid rules, and not allowed to return. This is also the argument for why China supposedly secretly wishes to take Australia.
The fascist performance of the Australian government during Covid was, arguably, the most disgraceful and Nazi-esque of the Western world. Protesting citizens being beaten en masse as they fled … young citizens locked up in internment camps for months for violating Covid protocols. Massive Twitter coverage which I watched live..
I would welcome any data input from Down Under. We here in the U.S. get exactly zero Aussie news….
Don’t stress, we don’t get any news either, unless wall to wall propaganda counts
Golden opportunity for Australia to actually manufacture lithium batteries and better itself. China would be forced to focus on itself to stabilize domestic issues rather than building a military and expanding itself internationally with its brick and road projects.
We all want a
our friends across the pond to be freed from the globalists scourge.
Ignore the few who say otherwise
Wyoming mines and ships very significant amount of coal via Canada to China…
Tariffing rare earth will put a brake on our forever wars so that’s a plus
Kick all the Chicom students OUT!
MSM headline (hypothetical):
This is a chilling day for Chinese in America. They feel threatened by Trumps actions. Communities are scared and afraid.
Could become interesting…hypothetical headline expanded, as you say…Chinese students seeking to return home are delayed in obtaining visas and flights due to the government shutdown and will have to depart on chinese cargo ships.
Fortunately for them, there are an abundance of empty cargo containers and businesses skilled in modifying them into tiny homes.
Would be efficient as a lot of those ships typically sail back much emptier then when they arrived.
containers . (:
Difficult to deal with this… as I understand it, many (Mainland) Chinese students/others likely have Parents/others that are liable to ‘punishment’ if the students in the U.S.A. do not do as they are instructed by the CCP.
Tough luck for them.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
hahahahahah
Given that Joe would have just apologized to Xi for clearly provoking such an action on China’s part, and discreetly inquired whether the Big Guy would still get his cut…I have to say that it is refreshing to see a true leader in the office of the American president.
I see the Chinese moves as pretextual and related to their perception of a Taiwanese move toward an independence which they already possess. They want to create an atmosphere for a reaction. With any other American president, the chips might fall into place predictably. With Donald Trump, they play a dangerous game as he is not like any other recent American president. You’d have to go all the way back to Reagan to find context for a possible American response and the Chinese government rests on such a house of cards that I’m not sure they will allow their memory to stretch back that far.
J
Just think what Kamalamadingdong would do if she was preezy and got a message like this. Hoo Boy!
Buy more booze and have Nancy over for cocktails.
This is economic war for sure. the chinese clearly are looking to destroy America and they are hoping this move somehow disrupts our economy enough to tip the 26 midterms away from Republican control of house. It is brutal chess game on global level. I keep praying for discernment for Trump and his team. May God help and bless USA.
Nothing about this economic move by China should come as a surprise. How soon people forget the CCP released a bio-weapon on the world (Covid) the last time PDT was putting a dent in China’s economy. The globalists then used the covid scam to bring on widespread vote by mail fraud to keep PDT from his 2nd consecutive term. Think the CCP isn’t doing the same drastic BS right now?
And I think the Dems were made aware of this move by china thus the timing of a shutdown and their ridiculous policy choices……they are with china.
President Trump.
They must be hurting to go down this path, but like the democrats they keep sticking their foot in their mouth
Dear Mr. President, crush China economically. The Dragon has locked away the Panda mask; Trillions are at stake.
One big issue for me is China makes so much of the medicines and vitamins etc. that are exported here. What happens if they tariff those, somehow taint them(calling it an accident or something) or refuse to send them to the USA and other countries? Can we ramp up quickly and manufacture enough critical meds here or get them from other countries like India? This seems like it could become a very sticky problem very quickly.
I absolutely refuse to buy any food or vitamins and absolutely 110% refuse to buy any “medicines” from 3rd-world COMMUNIST China!
COMMUNISTS cannot be trusted to do anything right, as “labor” there is essentially “slave labor,” PLUS, the Chinese cannot be trusted to keep poisons of any kind out of their products.
Be thankful that you have not already been poisoned in some way!
China had melamine in their baby formula. They also sent us pet food which killed our pets. Nothing we or our pets swallow should ever come from China.
Maybe it’s time for a lot of us to find doctors who don’t needlessly prescribe medicine.
We tariff the imports from China including medicines and vitamins. China doesn’t tariff their exports to the United States, Cjzak.
Seeing plenty of emotional responses in comments but lìttle reality about the tariffs.⁹
Trump only has the power to impose tariffs on Americans.
If you want 100% tariffs on China, you will need Xi to impose them.
Trump’s 100% tariffs will impact US businesses directly, and Chinese businesses only indirectly.
So fa it looks like US businesses have only moved some production out of China, to other countries, but not to America.
So the screaming of US businesses will be more likely directed at Trump, not China!
So Trump is more likely ratching up negotiations with US businesses, not China.
These are the very same people who first exported US jobs to China!
Tariffs are imposed on the entity bringing goods into the country.
An American only pays a tariff if the importer passes the cost of the tariff on in the price of his product.
Chinese businesses will be hurt one of 2 ways…they either eat the tariff and thus lower their profit margin — or — they add the cost of the tariff to their product and risk loss of market share.
Your prediction that Trump will be “ratching up negations with US business, not China” is ignorant bordering on crazy.
Most businesses operate on razor thin profit margins and cannot eat a 25% to 140% tariff.
Tell me you’ve never run a business without telling me you’ve never run a business.
The exporting country pays the tariffs in order to remain with access to American markets, THE largest market in the world. They can avoid tariffs by manufacturing in America with American workers.
The markup on apparel alone is astronomical, somewhere in the 1000% margin. Those manufacturers will absorb 150% tariff without blinking and not add one penny to the end-user price. ACCESS is what they want.
another one. You are making it easy to spot.
I believe it is “racheting”.
ratching: ‘extra draft due to excess speed of the mule carriage over the roller delivery in spinning’
The two words are entirely different.
Sidenote but I just started laughing when I checked in to Conservative Treehouse for the second time today.
There is simply never a dull moment with President Trump in office.
Incredible
Why not 500% let’s get serious!
China wants guarantees from India on rare-earth supplies to US – media
https://www.rt.com/india/626149-china-india-rare-earth-metals-us/
I expect a china rolex clone will now cost as much as the real thang.
😆
I remember scanning a passenger carryon bag that was almost a dark solid blue – meaning metal.
It weighed 95 lbs.
Full of ‘Rorex’ watches.
Almost wrenched my shoulder out of its socket when I first picked it up.
Hahahahaha.
150g avg rolex. 450 g about a pound. 3 times 96 =, + or – 288 rolex watches.
Rolex weight 117g to 296g for solid gold watch.
So avg number could also be 150 to 1700 rolex watches.
That 95 lb case if it was solid gold would be worth less than 1700 rolex watches!
Is there a clear cut definition of ” large scale export controls” that the average Joe without a masters degree in business can understand? Lot’s of pearl clutching for something so ambiguous.
China revealing weakness via bravado. Trump’s instinct is correct. Call the bluff.
Pat Buchanan on China
Match 100% tariffs from Japan & ChinaToday, we let Japan and China to run up a combined annual trade surplus of $120 billion, blithely allowing them open access to our markets while we pay up to 100% tariffs for entry into theirs. By equalizing tariffs so that imported goods carry the same tax as American-made products, we can end the exploitation of US workers, and fund flatter taxes for families, fairer competition for business, and renewed economic liberty for all Americans.

Do what you must-President Trump. I am behind you 100%. We elected you to make the calls and decisions. Whatever you decide is fine with me.
I am convinced more now than ever before that Dems are crazy. Stay safe and do the right thing. I will support you. ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES!!
I sincerely believe China is already at war with us in hundred different ways. I think th rare earths move on their part now is to keep us weak and a prelude to a “hot war”
Trump should create a regulation that all products must be labeled where they were made so ordinary citizens can decide who they do business with. The other night, my wife was looking for a toaster not made in China. It is harder than you think. They obscure it as much as they can on purpose. You should just be able to check a box and buy with confidence. China free.
Predictably, the most opposition will come from those associated with big globalist businesses. Transshipment through Nations that have free trade agreements with the U.S. is one of the biggest issues and a difficult one to resolve with multilateral trade deals.
Fortunately, the USMCA agreement is going to get axed sooner rather than later and remove one of those venues of exploitation of the U.S. markets.
How bout just toast in your oven on a cookie sheet…..we didnt have a toaster when I was growing up. It makes better toast anyway.
It takes different strokes to move the world,
Yes it does, Xi,
Different strokes to move the world…
And furthermore, dices them of any land in America.
Warning : Just look at the cookware. You are what your food is cooked in . That enameled pot made in China breaks down and you are eating crap from China . American made stainless steel expensive yes and safe. Buy piece meal if you can’t afford the sets. If you can’t afford American stainless steel cookware use lodge cast iron.
Just think of all the stuff in walmart that originated from china in one way or another.
China stuff is often not labeled china suff.
Stuff in walmart or “china mart” will be going up.
Same fir costgo etc.
It will be like a hidden tax on products because walmart ie china mart will pass some or all of the increase costs along to you as they usually do.
It won’t be apparent at all to you that is happening except you’ll notice a price increase desiguised as a rollback aka roll-ya- again price.😳
Timing is everything, and this time Donald Trump is president, not some feckless weak kneed republican or a treacherous corrupt democrat.
The world is at war economically.
Will these economic clashes expand into other forms of conflict in the future?
USA imposed many escalating embargoes on Japan in 1940-41. Japan eventually attacked.
I always remember to thank President Nixon for bringing China out of its isolation, and USA companies for moving USA manufacturing to China. The USA creates its future enemies.
Everything is influenced by the 4-year election cycle, not long term strategy that would benefit American citizens.
China has deep roots in every USA institution.
They also own many politicians and media etc.
Best of luck with dismantling all those USA/China connections.
Rumors are abound that Xi had a stroke.
Cause’ he is dealing with the man now and not Joe Biden.
Have those rumors been confirmed by any authoritative source? I would imagine that if there might be any truth to it and the Chinese were unwilling to confirm it, then Trump would not cancel the planned meeting with Xi. That would force a confirmation or expose it as a hoax.
There are rumors and not confirmed. Above this post is a post by Pegon Zellschmidt and a chinese lady talks about the rumors….
As I have stated here before, I work hard at one of the biggest US Postal Service mail sorting and distribution service facilities in this country. We used to get tens of thousands of pounds of junk Temu packages every day. After President Trump started to slap down the China imports, the amount of Temu packages coming to my facility started to drop bigtime. And now I have not seen any Temu packages for many months.
But the amount of junk Shein packages has gone up to several thousands of pounds every day. Apparently many who used to buy junk from Temu now buy junk from Shein. I hope the new tariffs slap Shein down the same way Temu was slapped down ⚡. I do not want our money to go to communist or globalist countries that want to destroy us.
I want our products to be made here, and our money to stay here for us. President Trump is doing a great job 👍.
Let’s be honest here. The US can bully the world with all kinds of threats to ensure other countries bow their knee to our needs but when China uses the same tactics, it’s time to crush China for copying us. Our ability to dominate the world is fast becoming untenable and the cost is horrendous, especially in light of the totally unsustainable deficit we have. And yet, the sooner it happens, the sooner President Trump can do what he promised to accomplish, Make America Great Again!
Wars are not always won with weapons. Economics can bring a dependent foe to its knees. BRICS miht be the weapon of choice.
Mr. President….did the dems know in advance of China’s planned aggressive moves? Did they plan their shutdown based on this? They are Traitors and should be punished as such.
Take back control of the Internet that Obama gave away. Would be a good first step in this war to take the US down.
Citizens…we need to completely stop buying China Junk. Just like American in the past wars sacrificed our generation needs to step up during this war with china.
My crypto portfolio took a 70% hit… not happy about it but if it helps the country I guess it’s ok.
Welcome news to me anyway, since China’s CCP is deeply involved in both the fentanyl mass killing of Americans, and the Marxist revolutionary Antifa terrorist org. Hopefully PDJT’s tariff will put the finishing touch on their economy, which seems to have some problems already.
The underlying cause of this action to require details of the use of, before sending rare earth elements to foreign countries by China was a reaction to our instigations.
Our permanent government is primarily focused on global empire maintenance.
With the catastrophically failed Russian regime change project imploding, and the botched, extremely crude and bloody attempt of regime change in Iran, the focus is centering on preparing a hot war against China.
The Venezuelan regime change scheme to gain control of their massive oil reserves to exploit for ExxonMobil profits is another sideshow. This has been Rubio’s pet obsession for many years.
The maintenance of approx 800 bases, and deployment of our military primarily thousands of miles from our shores reflects this obsession.
Our MIC requires sourcing rare earth elements to continue with building weapon systems and munitions for our continuous foreign undeclared wars and sponsoring radical groups to topple governments from, of all places, China.
It is logical for China to consider the benefit to their national security of supplying these critical elements to our MIC knowing they are high priority on our hit list.
The American Empire is in its’ death throws, and the most dangerous times are upon us. As all empires rise, and then wane, the periods of actual collapse are always chaotic.
Our collapse is unique due to the fact our desperate elites have the 2nd largest nuclear arsenal. The Soviet leader class had nuclear weapons, but chose to go down without global destruction. I’m not sure if the morally and spiritually depraved elite class of ours will accept their loss of global control and power in a rational manner.
