In a significant response to a direct Chinese trade action, President Trump has announced a 100% retaliatory tariff against China effective November 1st.
President Trump Via Truth Social – “It has just been learned that China has taken an extraordinarily aggressive position on Trade in sending an extremely hostile letter to the World, stating that they were going to, effective November 1st, 2025, impose large scale Export Controls on virtually every product they make, and some not even made by them. This affects ALL Countries, without exception, and was obviously a plan devised by them years ago. It is absolutely unheard of in International Trade, and a moral disgrace in dealing with other Nations.
Based on the fact that China has taken this unprecedented position, and speaking only for the U.S.A., and not other Nations who were similarly threatened, starting November 1st, 2025 (or sooner, depending on any further actions or changes taken by China), the United States of America will impose a Tariff of 100% on China, over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying. Also on November 1st, we will impose Export Controls on any and all critical software.
It is impossible to believe that China would have taken such an action, but they have, and the rest is History. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

FAFO
Trump’s not playing games anymore. Maga
I am losing patience over the energy promises, though…Nicor just got another rate increase approved, something like the 5th in 8 years.
My salary is stagnant at about 2010 rates…
I have family that is in the restaurant business, and our economic status is killing them and their workers. Food prices are climbing. And frankly I thought things would be better, especially energy prices, but they are not.
Food and energy…
Same-same.
We’ve cut as low as we can….fixed income.
Not good.
Yes Betsy, I have cut as low as I can as well. House insurance and auto insurance went up and shopped around but found no one lower. Everything goes up but our fixed income, and when it does, we end up not getting a whole lot because some of it is taken out for the health insurance (medicare) and the supplemental if you have it.
Thank goodness I cook most everything from scratch, (and I have my Granny to thank for that), so I have a lot of soups, stews, pasta, beans, etc. Comfort food that goes a long way. I still buy fresh vegetables when I can and fresh fruit when I can find it at a Farmer’s Market. The grocery store stuff is tasteless. Frozen vegetables and fruit taste better than the fresh at the store, so I do buy the frozen if fresh isn’t available.
I know exactly where you are coming from. I am there with you.
I do a whole lot more praying about everything.
in baseball, when you hit a homerun, it takes a period of time before the ball passes over second; it takes an even longer period of time before it goesover the wall.
Be patient!
In CA one of our big 3 providers has raised rates 7 times in ONE year!!
If you are expecting rates controled by politically apointed public service commisioners in blue state to go down you have not been paying attention.
Where I live we have a co op my rates have barely increased.
My family was crushed all summer long with absolutely brutal power bills in the $480-$520 range.
He campaigned on having that fixed by November, but we needed sooner. A lot has been done in other areas, so I’m optimistic he’ll come through.
I did cringe when I saw his tweets blasting of lower grocery prices, lower inflation, etc…, because we are NOT seeing that here.
I think he’s done a great job on a lot of things & I’m happy to have him. Much work left to be done though.
I just hope he doesn’t, buy into fake data points (like the ones from Pfizer)
Same here. He is being buffaloed about food and energy prices. I think prices are being fixed higher than they need to be. Fuel and barrel prices don’t add up. Groceries are as high as they have ever been. Those of us on fixed incomes can see we are worse off today or at least no better off than a year ago. I guess the consolation is we didn’t get the Biden tax increases and I’m pretty sure it would be worse if Kamala was installed.
Then where are the arrests of Brennan, Clapper, O’Sullivan, Comey, and 216 others who perpetrated treason on our Nation!!!!
In 2024, the United States received approximately 14.7% to 16.2% of China’s total exports, depending on the source and reporting method. This share has been decreasing, with some reports from 2024 and early 2025 indicating the percentage is around 14%.
2024 figures: The U.S. received about 14.7% of China’s total exports, according to one report. Other sources place the figure between 14% and 16.22% for 2022 and 2024, as seen on WITS and the State Council Information Office.
Declining trend: The share of exports to the U.S. has been declining, falling from around 20% in 2017 to approximately 14% by early 2025.
Other destinations: While the U.S. is still China’s largest export destination, other countries and regions like Hong Kong and the European Union have a significant share of China’s exports, as shown in these charts.
10% of that must be Yeti tumbler…. Not Stanley they are toxic.
What are folks going to do when their Yetis cost $120.00?
Stop buying Yetis ?!?!?
Go with Sasquatch brand.
Yeti is a woke company. Orca is far better.
I like my “red solo cup”…just saying….
..me too, and they’re made in the USA..
If we are gonna win this war Americans will have to give up such purchases. We have been addicted to buying for a very long time.
Use something else?
Buy Yetis made in America!!!!
Buy a case (500) of 20oz. styrofoam cups for $50 that’ll last for a year and insulate just as good?
i wonder what the markup is on a yeti lol
I know you’re a troll based on your posts in the other thread, but 15% is a significant number. A 50% reduction would cause severe hardship that would ripple throughout their entire economy. We have enough leverage to drive them into an irreversible tailspin.
It’s been shrinking every year because China has found other markets for It’s products. On the other hand, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Walmart, Target and Amazon rely very heavily on China. A 100% tariff will simply put them out of business and hand the 2026 midterms to the Democrats which are only 11 months away. On top of that, the Supreme Court might very well throw out the IEEPA Tariff Authority and all this chaos and upheaval have been for nothing!
If it’s been shrinking then why are you worried?
This tariff will force more companies out of china maybe to India or back home. Walmart and company will have other suppliers.
jeff next question Seasic sue original premise is that our economie would be destroyed by the tariffs and the next statenent is the tariffs would have no effect because they were insignificant. can you decode that?
And your point?
We don’t have the cards!
We have the cards, and the dealer.
Exactly. This person is totally clueless.
Your logic is the type I despise the most. The go along to get along crowd. Afraid of their own shadow: Let’s not rock the boat, we have no cards, we can’t do anything that will make prices increase by $1. We can’t manufacture in the US, we can’t make China upset, we can’t do anything. The largest economy in the world, but let’s just roll over and be scared.
God forbid we have to endure some minor hardship for long term gain. Things have to change. You’re not doing anyone any favors by doing Amazon and Home Depot’s bidding. They will be just fine, whether they want to admit it or not. I work in manufacturing, and all the naysayers who have no idea what they’re talking about seem to scream the loudest.
You do realize that we are paying $90 billion a month at over 4% interest on the federal debt which would be $20 billion at 1% without the tariff strategy. That $90 billion dwarfs the $10 billion in IEEPA tariff revenue each month which, more than likely, will have to be refunded once the Supreme Court knocks out IEEPA tariff power.
Yikes, you really are clueless. What a bunch of unsubstantiated nonsense.
Jeff….read the Treehouse guidelines please:
You call clueless a personal attack….yikes.
Sheesh….read upthread.
A Rolcon posting AI dribble. Nice.
Thank you, President Trump. As I said on the daily thread, he is the only modern President with the courage and backbone to stand up to this vile, lying, duplicitous regime. Once we achieve rare earth dominance, we can give them the middle finger.
I read a couple days ago that Xi had a pretty bad stroke. Anymore news on that or confirmed?
Yes, my question, as well. Timing is too coincidental. Is XI even cognitive at this time?
Ask Sleepy, Creepy, Crazy, Perverted Uncle Joe …. I’m sure he has the “inside track” on such things.
Ask Nurse Ratched, er… Dr. Jill, about Joe “Timber” Biden’s ‘inside track”.
That’s a weird reply.
Biden=CCP?
Too many clot shots?
I will bet he never got any.
I’ll bet you’re right. He probably got the same “vax” that decrepit Sleepy Joe got, a shot of saline. Absent the reward of a diaper change and pudding cup though.
Perhaps Xi has the Chinese variant of TDS?
And they were from China!
That was also claimed right after President Trump won on November 5. Do we know this is true? Because last time it was fake.
Good reminder. 👍
He has an endless supply of other people’s organs he can have cut out of them and have installed in him.
Can’t do the Brain….
He had one a while back, too, I think.
With 100% you get egg rolls.
Racist comments not necessary here JD
It’s a spoof on a movie. Get over it.
Doris Day and Bryan Keith no less. JD, you just keep quoting Doris. Can’t go wrong there.
Well, there is this one, good words…
Wasn’t George Carlin in the movie?
Lighten up Francis….
Oh pleaseeeeeeeeee
Somebody has been through too many DEI Sensitivity Sessions.
Did that non racist comment cause a run in your stocking?
How exactly is that “racist”? The Chinese invented egg rolls. They make egg rolls. People love egg rolls.
It’s not a derogatory remark or using a racial slur. It’s called humor and I’ll bet not a single Chinese person would be offended. But over-sensitive virtue-signaling White people would be. 🤣
I had two egg rolls for dinner…. :):)
Oh, please….It’s similar to a movie title – “With Six You Get Egg Roll” (I think with Doris Day).
Wrong board
That time I was a Bread Man, when an angry Chinese lady that ran a grocery store; pointed at my empty bread shelf on the day after Thanksgiving and said to me:
“You wet me lun out of lolls.”
Reminds me of a good joke , but it might not be appreciated by some here, but some others might know it.
The punch line is … SUPPLIES !!
What is racist about it?
But is it Racist? Chinese people like egg rolls. Black people love friend chicken. Is stating facts Racist? I like egg rolls & fried chicken and don’t see anything wrong with that.
Chinese isn’t a race. It’s a nationality. If you weren’t such a blatant racist yourself, you’d know the difference between race and nationality.
Watch out ….ad rem just chastised someone for calling someone clueless.
I prefer shrimp fried lice

This might kick start a new industrial revolution here and in Europe. A lot of manufacturers are going to be wishing they had gone ahead and re-shored sooner.
This is PDJT’s strategic plan to accelerate the re-shoring of manufacturing which has been dragging despite increasingly favorable domestic economic conditions to do so.
I just watched a video yesterday wherein it was noted that it is the blue collar formerly Democrat-voting workers who largely switched to support Trump because of his pledge to return those jobs to America. But those jobs have yet to materialize in any significant numbers and polling indicates that delay has caused some measurable dissension among that demographic.
That’s a big problem for President Trump going into the midterms because if Republicans don’t hold the House and Senate, the Democrats will absolutely impeach him and likely get him convicted (on trumped up charges of course) and removed from office.
I think this move to make the tariffs painful for importers of Chinese manufactured goods is at least partly in response to the foot dragging of American companies to return their manufacturing plants to this country.
Big corporations in cahoots with the CCP, no doubt.
So…to recap: The Chinese, our legislators, England, the EU, Canada hate us, and they hate us only because they can no longer milk us dry. Thank goodness we have the man in the arena, President Donald J. Trump, fighting for us.
Yep, that about sums it up in a nutshell.
The big problem is nothing has changed with mail-in ballots and voting machine.
Some states have changed but overall it’s very little by comparison.
I think our VSGPDJT has the path of election electronic comms locked up a bit tighter than before by eliminating the Serbian connection. From what I’ve read the tally numbers from machines were changed in Serbia then sent back to the U.S. But that was discovered by the “white hats”……
I think a lot of ‘discovery’ was done by Mike Lindell.
Domestically, yes. I don’t remember his team discovering & reporting on the particular machinations that the Smartmatic software was executing via the Serbian connection. That software was (is still?) used in more machines than just Dominion, according to what I read and/or heard on a video (reputable source) within the past month or two.
Support TRUE THE VOTE. They have done, and are doing, a LOT of the necessary work.
And you are telling me that blue collar workers will go with dems because they are gonna bring jobs back?
Yes, China is isolating themselves further every time they impose trade restrictions on the rest of the world.
China’s entire value proposition is in making lots of stuff super cheap (because they use slave labor and ignore the pollution.) There are very few things China makes that could not be relocated elsewhere. There are plenty of low wage countries in the world who will ignore pollution. With advances in robotics, more and more stuff can be made just as cheaply and with far better quality, even in high labor-cost countries.
America on the other hand cannot be replaced by any other country or group of countries as the biggest consumer in the world. We buy far more of just about everything than anybody else.
Sundance might need another version of the famous Yellow/Gray map to show which parts of the world will be in China’s orbit and which will not.

This is friggin HUGE
Best President evvvvvvvvvvva
gotta clone this guy
It will be interesting to see how China responds to this
It will be interesting to see how consumer prices respond to this.
It will be interesting to see who takes advantage of this by spinning a narrative limited to their own individual interest.
😝😝 stock up on the toilet paper again 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It will be interesting to see how the stock market responds to this.
It is what it is. I’m so tired of the segment of the population who don’t care what happens as long as their prices are low. That’s the mentality that got us into this predicament in the first place. When you have a race to the bottom and use your main adversary as your principal supplier, you’re asking for trouble. I’m always amazed how little tolerance people have for short term discomfort.
As someone who works in manufacturing, everyone in the industry knows what is happening. They can adjust or throw their hands up in the air. If they don’t want to adapt, then they’ll have to deal with the consequences. I’ve seen a lot of movement to other areas of Asia (ie. out of China). While it may not be ideal, it’s certainly better than nothing. None of this would have happened without the tariffs. If these companies stopped whining, and spent more time doing, the world would be a better place.
Totally agree, Jeff. I don’t need any CHYNA made sh*t including their pharmaceuticals.
I’m 68+ years old and don’t take any prescribed medications. I take walks in the woods for exercise and deal with life as it comes.
And if all the cell phones in the world went out I wouldn’t lose a dime of sleep but I’m sure Apple et al will make sure that never happens. Can’t have kids playing outside breathing fresh air. Gotta make sure their noses are stuck in the phone as their social skills rot.
Thank you!
Same here! 😉😉
Humor…..
I must admit…. I did check to see how much black tea
is imported from China . 🤷♀️🤷♀️China is 4th. ….so I’m good!☕️😃
I might stock up a bit though…🤔🤔
You just described me!
Carry on Thor III.
Quit bragging, Jeff… I’m over 90, still harvest my own firewood, climb hills, and (fortunately) do not even take Aspirin. 😍😍😍
And you, Sturmudgeon are what I would call an Elder, not an elderly! Wise in your ways, self-sufficient and strong. I’m lucky enough to have a 94 year old Mom who also keeps moving everyday but she does take aspirin rarely. She like you is an inspiration for all of us. I also have a neighbor couple. 94 and 88 years old. He rides his motorcycle, runs a business and stacks his own wood. They walk every morning, rain, shine, sleet, whatever.
Still a lot of good folks out there. Keep on keeping on!
Like the Don’t be a litter bug…….Stop Forrest Fires….This is your brain on Drugs…It is time for PT to start a campaign against cell phones, Social media, etc. Those things actually worked. Bring back the Smith Mundt Act. Take back control of our Internet.
100% agree. Speaking for myself, I go out of the way to find products made in USA. Sure, sometimes they aren’t available but I will gladly pay more for them.
It’s not difficult, and so far everything I’ve looked for – and scores of things I didn’t look for – I’ve found…
{ https://madeintheusamatters.com/ } is a USA Made directory
Although I’ve been looking for socks, and that has taken me out of my way… but there are so many choices it’s become a project.
POTUS once said, when being asked about manufacturing, “I don’t want to make t-shirts…”
BUT IMO it would behoove US to begin again to *promote* absolutely everything Made In The USA We The People need & want to simply live AND to ‘live simply’…
instead of only focusing on producing those things that make big profits, like weaponry, drugs, & computers.
2 of many USA SOCK makers –
{ https://thebuffalowoolco.com/pages/about }
{ https://darntough.com/pages/our-unconditional-lifetime-guarantee }
I ordered MADE IN USA Winter gloves, and they came with a ‘China’ label. Disappointed.
Thank you.
Having grown up without running water or electricity in our rural house I’ve often hoped the electricity would go out for about a week.
We have so many spoiled, unprepared and ungrateful people they have no idea how to survive or what it takes to do so.
I think a week might snap them into reality very quickly.
It will require much longer than a week, methinks.
Thank you Jeff, excellent comment!
It has taken us several decades to get to the bottom, we are slowly climbig our way out thanks to Pres Trump and his administration.
Sadly a lot of people seem to have a problem with instant gratification of their wants.
It is just not going to happen and without Donald Trump we would be in BIG BIG TROUBLE here in the US.
Who cares . Don’t buy their crap. It will self correct eventually.
A little pain is good sometimes. Makes you appreciate things a little more.
That’s a bullshit talking point . Might as well say ” women , people of color and the poor hit the hardest .
Reality….what PT is asking of us he and his family have never experienced but he has gone through Hell in other ways….I say bring it on…..It is not the end of the world to do without junk. I have gone without power during the many hurricanes I have endured…not fun at all. Got a whole home generator but the cost to run on natural gas is gonna be brutal.
Consumerism is highly overrated.
It makes consumers poor & oligarchs filthy rich.
The corporations have already squeezed us for their quarterly earnings and stock prices. People will do without. It’s already going on with real estate, autos and restaurant eating. Instead of following the law of demand, they won’t lower prices to meet the consumers’ needs. They raise prices even more to recoup their falling sales and profit margins on the backs of the remaining customers. Wall Street has WRECKED the economy. My family is personally doing without. Screw Wall Street.
CBS NEWS
China imposes retaliatory port fees on American-owned ships docking in country
China has hit U.S.-owned vessels docking in the country with tit-for-tat port fees, in response to the American government’s planned port fees on Chinese ships,
[…]Vessels owned or operated by American companies or individuals, and ships built in the U.S. or flying the American flag, would be subjected to a 400 yuan ($56) per net ton fee per voyage if they dock in China, China’s Ministry of Transport said on Friday.
[…]The fees would be applied on the same ship for a maximum of five voyages each year, and would rise every year until 2028, when it would hike to 1,120 yuan ($157) per net ton
[…]. They would take effect on Oct. 14, the same day when the United States is due to start imposing port fees on Chinese vessels.
MORE:
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/china-port-fees-trump-xi-trade-meeting/
A container ship with a net tonnage around 50,000 tons, at $56 x 50,000 the port feee would be $ 2,800,000.
Most container ships are now larger, IIRC.
I wonder if this is China’s retaliation towards lower profits? You know there has to be many an impact that they are feeling now and are going after the whole world….?
And, back in the days before “The Treaty”, ships transiting the Canal, were charged twenty five cents a ton if my memory is correct…
looks like a direct response to our fees. Since few ships are made or are flgged in the US, while many are Chinese, it still looks like a high net benefit.
Was $0.25/ton the charge for operating the canal? (which someone has to pay for…)
I just commented on another thread here today, about the ports in the Panama Canal and the heavy chinese influence down there….
I wonder if they will be influenced…heck most of the ships are still from china, no matter where they dock and unload?
That is an empty symbolic gesture by China. The US owns and operates very few merchant ships these days. Even fewer would ever go to Chinese ports. China on the other hand has more than any other country.
“China owns over 5,500 oceangoing merchant vessels, while the US controls a mere 80. China’s shipbuilding capacity dwarfs America’s by a factor of 232, and while China has invested over 100 ports worldwide, the US has few strategic holdings. Even within America’s own borders, the vast majority of port terminals are controlled by foreign entities. In essence, the US relies on an intricate network of allies and foreign operators—some friendly, some not—to keep its supply chains moving.”
https://chinafellowship.wilsoncenter.org/article/americas-maritime-blind-spot-how-china-gaining-upper-hand-high-seas
(BTW the quote above says only 80 US flagged ships. Department of Transportation says it’s actually 188. Still pathetically small.)
Take back our ports ASAP under National Security measures.
Continuing the so called trade war, tit for tat is not a great idea for China having such large trade surpluses with the U.S.
They can only lose from having such an export dependent economy selling to the world’s biggest consumer market. There are no shortage of economic competitors that would eat their figurative lunch and the market share with it.
Side benefit is sticking it to the globalists for having taking advantage of lopsided trade deals for so many years.
Agree. We have a lot of leverage here. There is increasing movement to other Asian countries that are deemed friendlier. Not as good as reshoring, but so-called “friendshoring” is still progress.
They seem to have a different opinion. Time will tell.
Bet Wally World (Walmart) and others, are freaking out! LOL
So is the Dollar Store (now really $1.25 and higher) going to have to change it’s name to Two Fifty Store?
It’s the “10 Yuan store.”
My guess, China moves in and takes Taiwan.
History shows when nations have trouble internally with their finances they usually find a way to start wars with their supposed enemy in order to divert the locals attention away from their own government and onto the new boogeyman.
Taiwan being a huge chipmaker and supplier for the world, gives China a huge control in the belief that will get other nations to bow to China’s will.
Also highly suspect that Xi is no longer in charge and there is an internal struggle within their ruling group for ultimate control, and once that person takes the top position is when we see their move to take Taiwan and perhaps Singapore too given that Singapore is a major holder of foreign nation’s gold, many having moved their storage from Hong Kong when China took over that city.
My guess is China did not like Canada cozying up to us this week (forgotten in the shutdown and Mideast news). Canada has significant rare earth deposits of its own and has built the first commercial-scale rare earth processing plant in North America.
Does this include the fentanyl and its precursors sold by China to drug cartels?
Would that increase the cost to drug dealers in LA, Chicago, NY, etc, and thereby help/force addicts shake their addiction?
We will know when the Fentanyl flow is restricted by the disappearance of the zombies in our cities.
It might but my guess is robbery type crime would skyrocket.
not if there is not much to buy at any price
PT needs to blow up the factories in Mexico first…..to get rid of the drugs.
All Souls Day.
All Saints Day.
All Souls Day is November 2.
This is HUUUUGE!
WW3 will not look like WW2; just as WW2 didn’t look like WW1; just as WW1 didn’t look like… etc etc etc
I think we’re in WW VI or VII by now
Ha!!!
Let them eat rare earth metals.
We are the number #1 food supplier.
Nice!
Take that Commies….
China is not and never will be our ally.
USA bailed them out in WW II, reminds me of how my own family treats me since invoking MAGA
China was our ally with Shang Kei Shek was the Chinese leader in WW2. Afterwards he was driven out by Mao. Shang and his supporters escaped to Formosa, now Taiwan.
Maybe Truman should have done more to support him, or defeat Mao back then. In some ways similar to how Patton wanted to drive the Soviets out of Eastern Europe.
What if…….. What if. . . .
True ssm.
Any country that sends as much fentynal here and causes massive human misery in our population is not and never has been an ally.
Sure gonna miss all those cheap made-to-fail Chinese appliances and batteries, the toxic drywall, the poisonous pet food. What % of our landfill waste is Chinese crap? Bet it’s YUGE.
Best of all, let’s produce our own pharma. We already do the expensive part, the R&D, which is directly, and indirectly, funded by the US taxpayer.
China has a middle class, thanks to us. In return, ours has been hollowed out. Long past time for a reversal.
Thank you, POTUS! You’re on a roll. Enjoy the weekend, and Happy Columbus Day! (BTW, I know you’re busy, but could you do something about that woke Indiginous People’s Day crap? Thanks in advance.)
Wrong thread. Oops
How Blessed are we that Trump exists.
Thank God for him daily and pray for his continued protection. HATE IT WHEN HE TRAVELS!
Send all their students home and cancel all visas for Chinese nationals. Tariff any European nation that continues to trade with them.
And Canada.
China, in collaboration with the rest of the installed Never Trump leaders around the world, are colluding together to offset the MAGA Effect. They know Trump is term limited and the fraudulent installation of Obamas third term was critical in impeding lasting MAGA policy.
The Illusion of Choice factor in 2028 unfortunately will probably reverse everything.
PDJT had 2 election cycles stolen… praying and fasting he’ll pull an FDR for at least 3 more terms
Never before have these words made so much sense then now:
“It ought to be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things (MAGA). Because the innovator (Trump) has for enemies all those who have done well under the old conditions (NWO/DC), and lukewarm defenders in those who may do well under the new (Bondi et al). This coolness arises partly from fear of the opponents (Deep State/Radical Left), who have the laws on their side (activist judges etc.) , and partly from the incredulity of men, who do not readily believe in new things until they have had a long experience of them.”
How can you get already lukewarm defenders at best to go along when they know that the current dynamic is only temporary? The Club Will Preserve Itself No Matter What It Takes. Yes, even if it means faking a global pandemic. Nothing is off the table.
We are much wiser now.
No
No
Trump sure has allot of 2028 Hats he is collecting…
What game is China playing here? Their domestic situation is falling apart. You’d think they’d be more accomodating of international trade, not less.
Desperation causes strange behavior by the communist.
So let’s think about this. Which company imports most of its products from China to sell in large mega-stores across the nation?
I just wonder how that company will respond.
https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/international/us/walmarts-60-per-cent-imports-are-from-china-will-multinational-retail-giant-hike-prices/articleshow/120133013.cms?from=mdr
Oh noes, Walmart might have to import from India instead to maintain that 1000% margin instead of 875% by sticking with Chinese imports.
Just watch, they will find other cheaper suppliers if Chinese suppliers don’t play ball and will still increase their already ridiculous margins and blame it on the “Trump Tariffs”. Eating their cake and having it too.
Nuke ‘em from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
No Nukes needed One “rod from God” filled with all the Fentanyl confiscated from smugglers this year dropped right on their heads at their next communist party congress.
Do you realize what you are saying?
There has been enough fentynyl as well as precursor chemicals confiscated and destroyed to overdose hundreds of millions in the U.S. within the last year. Never mind carfentanil which is much more potent.
Ok so fill it with as much as would fit and still have enough tungsten to do the job of crashing through the roof of their communist lair. Is that better for you Burns? Killing the CCP with their own poison would be a “win win” as the commies like to say.
Meh. I don’t like commies either.
About 20 years ago, right around the poisoned pet food they sold us…in Panama, there was a problem with chinese made cough syrups and mouth wash used in the Panamanian hospitals…people died, Panamanian people,. Some chinese business men commit suicide over it, too, reportedly.
I could see something like that happening again. I hope I am just overly cynical and paranoid…..
Karma, or revenge?
Maybe a bit of both.
The regularity of such incidents speaks volumes about the manufacturers.
As to the middlemen selling and trading these goods, one has to make their own determinations.
You have just reminded me how much trash, junk and poison China has sent our way the last few decades.
Many, including american business owners have become wealthy from all of the crap China has sent our way and US citizens have paid the economic and health and safety price.
Our lives have been considerably diminished by the relationship America has had with China for the last fifty years.
It is about time we cut them off.
I’m waiting for the “tariffs are hurting Americans” crowd to show up..
They will be showing up before 1 Nov, that’s for sure.
In IL, there is a two week moratorium on National Guard, so they will need to find something else to do up here…am thinking their protests will thin out some…
I wondered why the stock market took a significant drop today.
Lower drug prices will do that.
The U.S. stock market declined sharply on Friday, October 10, 2025, after President Donald Trump threatened to impose a “massive increase” in tariffs on Chinese imports, reigniting concerns over a trade war between the world’s two largest economies. Trump cited China’s export restrictions on rare earth materials—critical for technology and defense industries—as justification for the proposed tariffs, stating that China was “becoming hostile” in its trade posture.
IMHO, the market is over valued so maybe Monday will be an opportunity to buy? I am no market whiz kid but it does not make sense to me at the kitchen table.
It could go down 50% is still be over valued. I am waiting for the big players to squat and take a big one on the smaller investors.
Last I looked, not all but a lot of the Dividend Kings and Aristocrats went up or only dropped in a minuscule manner…in spite of 800 or so drop….
The Dow was down under 2% today, and traded within a 200 point window most of the afternoon.
That is not a particularly big single day decline, or a particularly volatile trading day.
Today’s China news did not cause a panic in the historical sense. Longer term investors are not going to be rattled by a 2% swing either way on any given day.
If a trade war develops, you may see a more gradual decline among some Dow components more sensitive to Chinese trade.
The chyna economy is tanking so Xi figures this is a good thing?
Or planning on capitalizing on the Christmas shopping season.
Can’t even stand to think of Christmas season anymore . It has become a meaningless reason to buy an obscene amount of junk. Yes I have become Scrooge.
A move out of desperation?
Cool.
Think of it the Rockefeller’s let the way when they opened China in 72 with Nixon/Kissinger and the American middle class was set up for the kill. Finally someone says stop!
I love it.
Does this mean the shelves at Walmart and Home Depot are going to be empty?
Well, I guess there will be some new start up opportunities.
Not necessarily going to be shortages in the big box stores in the immediate future.
Importers had foresight enough to frontload alot of goods in the first quarter before a lot of the current tariffs went into effect. By the second quarter that flurry of imports had slowed down to a relative trickle.
It’ll take some time to work through that built up inventory.
Front loaded and stashed in bonded warehouses.
Just outside of DuPage Co….there are massive numbers of warehouses in Illinois, along I-55. and then over near a town called New Lenox. There are always big trucks around them.
This is a post on Truth Social, prior to what Sundance posted.
Some very strange things are happening in China! They are becoming very hostile, and sending letters to Countries throughout the World, that they want to impose Export Controls on each and every element of production having to do with Rare Earths, and virtually anything else they can think of, even if it’s not manufactured in China. Nobody has ever seen anything like this but, essentially, it would “clog” the Markets, and make life difficult for virtually every Country in the World, especially for China. We have been contacted by other Countries who are extremely angry at this great Trade hostility, which came out of nowhere. Our relationship with China over the past six months has been a very good one, thereby making this move on Trade an even more surprising one. I have always felt that they’ve been lying in wait, and now, as usual, I have been proven right!
There is no way that China should be allowed to hold the World “captive,” but that seems to have been their plan for quite some time, starting with the “Magnets” and, other Elements that they have quietly amassed into somewhat of a Monopoly position, a rather sinister and hostile move, to say the least. But the U.S. has Monopoly positions also, much stronger and more far reaching than China’s. I have just not chosen to use them, there was never a reason for me to do so — UNTIL NOW!
The letter they sent is many pages long, and details, with great specificity, each and every Element that they want to withhold from other Nations. Things that were routine are no longer routine at all. I have not spoken to President Xi because there was no reason to do so. This was a real surprise, not only to me, but to all the Leaders of the Free World. I was to meet President Xi in two weeks, at APEC, in South Korea, but now there seems to be no reason to do so. The Chinese letters were especially inappropriate in that this was the Day that, after three thousand years of bedlam and fighting, there is PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST. I wonder if that timing was coincidental?
Dependent on what China says about the hostile “order” that they have just put out, I will be forced, as President of the United States of America, to financially counter their move. For every Element that they have been able to monopolize, we have two. I never thought it would come to this but perhaps, as with all things, the time has come.
Ultimately, though potentially painful, it will be a very good thing, in the end, for the U.S.A. One of the Policies that we are calculating at this moment is a massive increase of Tariffs on Chinese products coming into the United States of America. There are many other countermeasures that are, likewise, under serious consideration. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
DONALD J. TRUMP, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
It should be said that the Chinese are doing to us what we have already done to them. We claim the right to control what foreign countries and foreign companies do with products made in part using US owned technologies.
“The Foreign Direct Product Rule (FDPR) is a U.S. export control regulation that allows the government to assert jurisdiction over foreign-made items. This applies when these items are produced using U.S. technology or software, even if they are manufactured outside the U.S. and do not contain U.S.-origin content.”
What’s tour point ?
F-em
Someone will ALWAYS step into the position of authority….I prefer US don’t you?
Yeeeehawwwww!!!!
Oh Bother…
Piglet concurs.
Maybe there will be less Chyna junk this Christmas?
That will certainly be a wonderful thing if so! Christmas isn’t about the “things” Maybe it will be more centered on the birth of our Christ Jesus! What a wonderful gift THAT would truly be!
Good comment Barnabus.
If your family and friends celebrate Christmas as a religious holiday then not much will change.
But if it is celebrated with gobs and gobs and gobs of merchandise then I expect a lot of weeping and wailing from those folks.
At Christmas…China makes Christ first again..
Christmas orders were placed very early this year and have already been shipped to the US. That’s how the system works.
If only their were more Patriots Christmas would be a bust for walmart and the like…Folks you better save your pennies…There is no better opportunity or reason then now.
Oops
The likely response in my mind to this will be for foreign manufacturers to try and begin bringing their manufacturing back to their home countries, and the likely next move by China would be to nationalize it all. Regardless of that however, any manufacturers who moved their operations to China controlled areas are going to be in a world of hurt.
I am a bit surprised that the non Chinese companies who moved everything to China decades ago did not see this coming.
China is run by communists, evil nasty people, they never intended for anyone else to do well in the world.
China needs world to buy it’s junk…..The US can lead a world wide boycott …..get the guts and brains of the chip making out of Taiwan promise them protection and many other goodies in the US….then lets see if China still wants Taiwan. Not hard to put all those chip folks on planes headed here.
They can Nationalize all they want and I hope they do. Because they can’t make the guts of a company stay and yes china can deny it’s citizens their products. But it is gonna make the possibility of a china citizen revolt that more likely. Chinese people are very unhappy.
So, USA. are you still asleep?
When certain people have been talking about an imperative(!!) to “Make America Great Again,” methinks that many of you saw only a four-letter acronym on a red hat. Something that you could safely ridicule. No danger …
Do you “get it” now?
Y’know: “Where’s ‘Rosie the Riveter’ when you need her? The simple realization that we can be self-sufficient if we want to be. That we don’t have to take any guff from anyone.
That we can make the very best damned products in the world, in any category, and you’ll need US Dollars to buy them. Because you’ll want to. Because they’re the best. Bar none.
No question about it, small & large manufacturing was everywhere in America.
This gave Americans too much independence and messes with the banksters bottom line. One of the best examples for me was during the Wuhan Con, when the large chains, deemed “essential”, could remain open while main street took it on the nose again.
Government made those decisions not companies or banks. Government closed small businesses and allowed big chains to stay open. The blame should be placed on the Democrats in power at the time. All those unscientific rules were promulgated by Democrats/Communists.
And their timed shutdown is same same as COVID. This is all planned in cahoots with China. PT you need ti investigate using the many tools that for once can be used for good.
I could go for American-made clothing made to fit, such that a blouse or dress, pair of slacks for that matter, are made with correct left and right side patterns, not two left or two right sides. Also, bring back cotton. So tired of sweating in acrylic.
I just go with yoga stretch….it works through all the unplanned weight gains…
Nice reminder about “Rosie the Riveter” Mike R.
I do not think that most Americans understand the sacrifice and very hard work that our parents and grandparents had to exert to get America equipped and up and going in every way needed to win WWII.
It was a huge effort and many were frightened that we would not be able to defeat Hitler.
But they put the negative crap aside and got to work making life better for them and for those of us who had yet to be born.
They were extrodinary people who thought of the future and not how their lives were immediately inconveniencd by the sacrifices and doing without war brings.
I remember my Grandmother saved the plastic bags and rubber bands that the news paper came in…then saved the newspaper. Reused tin foil….never bought a thing unless broken.
We will have to go back to the …”If it ain’t broke” mentality. Formica counter tops are good enough.
There goes my 3D printing hobby all to heck. Better stock the stuff I cannot buy domestically.
And it is worth it. I have other hobbies. China does not.
Wow.
So that 65″ TV on sale this week for $279 will go up to $558. Oh no……. We’re all doomed! /s
Attention Bezos!
Please put a filter on Amazon for VERIFIED Made in USA.
Quit making me do the work to find the good stuff.
I will gladly pay more.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled comments. 😎
Maybe the next move is to revoke all Chinese visas and send them all home. Total embargo on trade or travel from China.
With President Trump opening up new opportunities with other countries who supply REM to the world, and with revolts against Chinese influence in those and other poorer REM nations in Africa and South America, China’s ability to use their monopoly to bring the world to it’s collective knees is on shaky ground. I think China just calculated that if they don’t pull this stunt now, they will never be able to later.
I support this action 100%! Eff China and their CCP! If you make your living grifting off the American people via the CCP, eff you too!
I’m guessing this is the lead up to taking Taiwan. They’re watching America get stronger and stronger under Trump and know they must move sooner, rather than later.
China is in trouble.
These are not acts from confidence, but of increasing desperation.
We are in trouble
We are living in very interesting times. Better get all that ChiCom shit you can’t live without … ASAP! The boys and girls at the head offices of Walmart, Costco and Amazon will be pouring themselves a few stiff ones tonight.
You are disparaging American companies
We’ll see how American they are…
A tariff only makes sense when the item is already ostensibly available domestically. For, if not, it would only serve to raise the acquisition cost of the item, as it is obtainable only via import.
Thus, tariffs are applied to competitive products. That means anything that is subject to tariff can be procured in America already. If so (that is, if tariffs are applied intelligently), the domestic industry stands to surge in a fashion proportionate to the tariff imposition. With that surge, domestic jobs and infrastructure will appear. Once established, the virtuous cycle of production/consumption internal to the economy (plus exports, given the now available capacity) resumes, and the USA returns once again to a more prosperous nation with a gainfully employed population and less welfare.
All of that points to American health improving. Add in proper adjustment of American diet, and both mental health and physical health improve, requiring a diminishing of the medical industry capacity and personnel. Result: lower medical expenses, reduction in insurance demands/costs. Finally, get back to religion, moral clarity, and purpose in living, and everything is back on track to raise the next generation.
There’s so many one dimensional comments in this thread. And I do not mean the dimension of structured in depth debate, review of objective facts and argumentation.
Oh well. Sign of the times.
Thanks for your multidimensional input.
It was as multidimensional as an Escher
Most of don’t have education and training in the realm of national and international taxation and tariffs but we do understand our “kitchen table economy”.
But we do also understand that things overall, are not as great as they could be. We suffered thru Biden’s “I Did That” regime…with him being on leash to Xi and the rest of the Chicoms while sucking up to Zelensky.
Also i would refer you to the posting guidelines, Sundance kind of encourages what you call one dimensional…or staying focused.
You seem to be new around here, we always welcome newcomers and support free speech…

Oh Boy ….. Am I sure glad that I got my “Made In China” Christmas Cards at Costco yesterday. Talk about good timing!
Speaking of Costco, heard a blurb on the radio that somewhere in the US, they were going to build housing on the upper level?
Has anyone heard anything about that? I don’t do Costco so its am out of the loop.
“speaking only for the U.S.A., and not other Nations who were similarly threatened,”
…so all those other nations are going to blame PDJT for this, which is probably Zi’s intent for this action. Turn others on PDJT. Divide and conquer, so to speak. Otherwise, why did Cyna include all other nations? Just a thought.
“Orange Man Bad” or “Its Trump’s fault”….I wonder if the Las Vegas bookies have numbers on the either or yet?
Don’t evah bet against ‘Orange Bad Man’🤣
Until about 1979 China was on column 2 of the tariff schedule, which means their products were assessed something like 80-120% duty.
People will be buying a lot less junk they don’t need.
China is extremely unhappy with the current situation, and The rare earth exports are the only leverage China has. Withholding them may indeed be their final card to play.
If we can supply the world they’ll be finished economically.
Which could make them extremely dangerous – cornered animal situation. War is always a possible answer to economic catastrophe.
