Senate Majority Leader John Thune appears on Fox News with Maria Bartiromo to discuss the current status of the government shutdown. As noted by Senator Thune, he will bring the Continuing Resolution bill to the Senate floor again on Monday, and see what happens.
Four times the radical wing of the Democrat party have refused to extend the short-term budget gap CR unless the Trump administration agrees to fund healthcare for illegal aliens and other Democrat priorities. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is reportedly worried about getting a leftist primary challenge and cannot permit the government to open. WATCH:

Uniparty theater
I’d rather the permanent firings begin.
That and keep the gov’t shutdown until we get a MAGA America First budget. No more CRs.
What’s that? At 61 days or more? Works for me!
Lol Ad rem good one.
Guess I should a added a (/s ) after my intial comment post. This whole shutdown is just one big Barnum and Bailey 3 ring uniparty circus show that stirs up a lot of dust and signifies nothing. Unless the threats to eliminate parts of gov’t are acted upon.
Lol!
Schumer’s grilling has improved. Those burritos actually look cooked.
The White House
Government Shutdown Clock
https://www.whitehouse.gov/government-shutdown-clock/
Democrats have their biggest fundraiser of the year in about 10 days that most of them will want to attend. They will settle by the end of this week I predict
Maybe. Maybe not. The full-blown communist wing of the Democratic Party is ascendant in New York state. If Schumer caves on the shutdown without getting everything the far-left Democrats demand, he is likely to be challenged successfully by AOC in 2028 — assuming he doesn’t announce his retirement before the end of his current term and she becomes his replacement in the Senate.
I hope you are not so naïve as to think there is a real difference between AOC and Schumer. The Democrats would benefit a lot from us, trying to save one of them to avoid the other.
dem donors don’t come from grassroots efforts like Repubs, a large % comes from dark money grps, globalist PACS and Soros / WEF connected peeps w the same objective: collapse the Republic from within
their fundraisers serve as a front to look legit… commonality is they r all working 4 the devil
So when are we going to see a list of how many non essential Gov employees are eliminated?
When are we going to see Comey get arrested and when will Bondi indict anyone else????
What is going on Bondi?
Terry,
I do not understand why this has not been expanded upon or discussed at length here.
I learned thru Beforeitsnews.com that Blondi is in fact working out of FL & travels up to DC & elsewhere when her actual presence is required (i.e. press briefings).
Ted Blanche is essentially running the day to day DOJ operations!! And this bastard is in fact a DEMOCRAT!!
Blanche has been slow walking more than a few things including:
Getting Tina out of jail in CO
Trump’s pardons
It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if good ol’ Mr. Blanche is behind the slow walking of ALL of the stuff mentioned + a lot more.
There have been no permanent closures of any agencies or offices so far. These would include the Department of Education, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Housing and Urban Development (HUD), but no specific eliminations have occurred.
Trump has frozen funding for Democratic-leaning projects (e.g., $18 billion in New York City infrastructure and $26 billion in blue-state climate/transit initiatives), but this is a suspension, not an elimination.
If Trump waits long enough, he won’t have to do the right thing. All suspension will be fully reinstalled, probably with interest.
When shutdowns end, every federal hire gets paid retroactively, whether they worked or not. Contracted workers get paid, but only if they work.
Historically, shutdowns only last a few days, so there isn’t even a missed paycheck. If this drags on, our military, especially the young recruits with families, will start to feel the pain. Ditto for ICE agents, and border patrol. Not right.
Would it be possible to amend the shutdown “rules” to allow these VERY essential government workers to continue to get paid, ON TIME, and without interruption? After all, the taxpayer spigot continues to flow, regardless.
Funding civil and national defense is the core mission of our government, and is the best use of taxpayer funds. It should not be held hostage to political grandstanding, and uniparty lobbyists.
Pay our men and women in uniform, that small % of our population who actually sticks their necks out, regardless of shutdown status. Once that bargaining chip is off the table, the grift and pandering gets a brighter spotlight.
You are exactly right-Funding Civil and National Defense is our government’s Core Mission.
However, I expect most politicians would agree with that since it funds the Military Industrial Complex, but I expect they also believe that also part of governments Core Mission(s) include their favorites and their donors favorite Core Mission(s). That number is probably in the thousands considering the number of politicians and their friends in Washington.
And, it also doesn’t even have to be a real issue for them as long as they can pretend it is and they care and can fund raise off of it.
“No money shall be drawn from the treasury, but in consequence of appropriations made by law;”
In the early 1800s Congress grew concerned that money was being appropriated but not spent in a timely fashion, creating something of a slush fund. So Congress specified limiting dates by which appropriated funds must be spent, which came to be defined as “obligated”. Congress could, if it wanted, waive those limiting dates.
The OBBB Act established a budget. Appropriators should be held to that budget. If I were parliamentarian I would advise the chair that Schumer’s health funding proposals exceed the budget and are out of order. But I guess the rules of the Senate allow it.
Border Patrol, Ice etc are fully funded already so they will be getting paid. This was done in the BBB.
I do think that serving military should be paid during a shutdown, they already are low paid, so missing a paycheck will hurt.
.
Military who have have pre-shutdown auto-deposit accounts with USAA or Navy Federal Credit Union are okay for a little while, as they can get no-interest loans. If it goes on too long, no, and let’s see if patriot organizations step up -OR- whether Trump orders them paid anyway. I think it was Carter who invented the notion that these guys can’t get paid.
.
So meanwhile, Senator, put the senate in recess and allow President Trump to make recess appointments.
ChiCom Mitch’s doppelgänger is careful to avoid that he could pass the CR without 1 demoncrap vote.
With the ☢️ option.
i see no downside to this standoff.
shut down?
great, we don’t mind keeping it shut down FOR YEARS (yes, you will still get your SS).
re-open?
fine and dandy, we got plenty more to do that you Uniparty types won’t like either.
campaign on healthcare for ILLEGAL ALIENS while Granny is scrambling to pay her out-of-pocket for that new hip?
alrighty then. let us know how that goes.
make”Republican” dinner theater out of trying to get a CR passed?
the reviews are in and they’re not good.
how about the Chief Executive of the United States, de facto leader of the Republican Party, gets a voice in policy matters here?
John Thune in his safe space at Faux News, with the non-triggering collaborator Maria B., tap dancing around the ever so visible stall is no substitute for sane fiscal policy and tax payer accountability.
whew, i feel a bit better now.😂
spitting mad while typing.🤣
should read “…accountability TO the taxpayers”.
“As noted by Senator Thune, he will bring the Continuing Resolution bill to the Senate floor again on Monday, and see what happens.”
Why?
Why not wait until Schumer begs him to allow a vote on the “clean” CR?
And in the meantime, get Vought to start closing agencies and RI.fingnFeds.
Senators and House members should not be paid during this Schumer Shutdown.
You could permanently end paying members of Congress and it would not mean a thing. They will just keep getting rich doing insider trading.
There is a clause in the constitution that prevents playing games with their salaries.
Not impressed with the bluster about firing govt employees followed by inaction. Using it as leverage instead of the strategic opportunity to massively shrink the federal workforce is an unforced error. They might still do it. Maybe the vote tomorrow is basically “ok, last chance”, but again, the strategic value of RIFs outweighs getting the CR passed.
The shutdown gives them an opportunity to RIF govt employees. RIF’ing the employees creates lanes for cutting even more irrelevant programs. And removes #resistance fighters from the ranks.
The vast majority of the government is not shut down in any way…
“The shutdown gives them an opportunity to RIF govt employees.”
Don’t really see any reason why? Is there something in Title 5 or OPM Manual that provides this?
Pretty good summation here.
https://www.lawfaremedia.org/article/reductions-in-force-during-shutdowns
Basically, govt can potentially use a lapse of funds to justify RIFs the same way companies do. In my company, we’d make a determination of risk. Sometimes, that means we keep paying people for a set period until the revenue stream turns back on. But companies only take in so much risk before they’ll start letting people go, even if temporarily.
The discussion of the issues on the Lawfare site are useful because even they acknowledge that as long as Vought and Trump follow proper procedure, like giving 30-days notice, they would likely prevail in court.
Will someone kindly explain to me – a dummy on this – why we are still even hearing about “Obamacare” or “ACA subsidies” and how the current shutdown is affecting that?
Something to do with that vile Senator McCain and his thumbs down vote?
McCain delivered the final vote; but never forget that Collins and Murkowski voted “no” ahead of him to set it up.
McCain just replaced Capito for the theatrics. No way McConnell didn’t know how it would play out.
Orchestrated with time and people in place just like the Pelousi/Judas Pence J6 coup.
I think Mccain was getting paid off via Ukraine (hence him being on the ground early on…) for his Obamacare Vote…. because the Democrats are laundering massive amounts of taxpayers funds via the healthcare racket.
The GOPe doesn’t want to repeal Obamacare and never did. The insurance and hospital industries wrote the legislation. The GOPe wouldn’t want to anger them.
All true. Also how O paid off the bankrupt unions.
And pre-installed Medical Tyranny for the Vaxx-Virus Bio-Attack.
millions of senior citizens r denied SSA + medicare coverage because penalties r assessed against them if they didn’t have healthcare coverage prior to enrolling in these. Since many can’t afford to pay the penalties, they r denied SSA + medicare. This is the Marxist / Socialist facet of ACA that should never have been added to ACA. Lots of ACA items still being enforced Americans aren’t aware of… it’s a way for our govt to keep SSA + medicare benefits that should b going to senior citizens
Not sure you are correct on that. I didn’t have insurance for several years before I signed up for SS and Medicare and was not penalized at all.
Apparently, during the Covid hoax, they increased the subsidies and allowed more people to get them. These will expire at end of the year. Democrats don’t like it when temporary programs expire hence the current tantrum.
So how many people have been fired so far? Rhetorical
Get off your ass, Thune, and start helping Americans instead of yourself. You’re coasting, son.

Try to be like your brother, Bob.
Make a budget, stick to it and pay off the church debt.
As I recall, by the time the current CR passed, the House had already passed several spending bills in regular order. Thune can bring up a vote on those bills and reopen those portions of the government right now. We should not pretend that a majority in the Senate cannot do whatever it wants, the Republicans can do it.
Yes, in theory, but… in order to pass the Senate, the spending bill will need to avoid the filibuster, thus requiring 60 votes.
That’s the same problem we are dealing with on the CR.
A simple majority can vote to suspend the rules. No 3/5 majority needed to stop debate. It’s called the nuclear option, but the Senate has become a wax museum and it needs to change.
Democrats are in a mess of they’re own making.
If they vote “yes” on a clean CR their base will go insane with rage. Illegals will turn on them too leaving them with people voting against them in droves.
If they continue to vote “no” on a clean CR they hurt a lot of people who get angrier at them by the day. Plus Trump gets to lay off (perhaps permanently) thousands of government workers. That reduces the payroll in government treating them just like private sector workers.
One Friday I saw the entire 2nd shift get laid off where I used to work. No warning. No severance pay. Called in the office at the beginning of the shift, paid for the rest of their shift, and laid off.
All I can say to the government workers who get laid off is you are being treated MUCH BETTER than almost everyone in the real world.
The democrats will not vote to open the government until they come up with lies about all the people being harmed, trot them out on the leftstream media, and then wait for the polling to tell them their lies aren’t working. They also need at least two weeks before employees miss a paycheck so they can whine about that.
Part of this is the dems trying to decide who gets to be the ones who vote for the CR. They have to look at safe seats, polling, and who can withstand the lefty backlash before Schumer gives them the OK.
At a minimum they want two weekend media sob sessions before voting for the CR. In this shutdown it amazes me the democrats are voting NO and trying to blame republicans. The longer this goes on it benefits republicans because people will see how non essential much of government is, so I predict about 3 weeks before a half dozen dems defect.
After all the tough talk if Trump doesn’t turn Russ Vought lose to start issuing pink slips to non-essential federal workers before the dems cave it will be terrible lost opportunity. What is he waiting for?
Long live the sombrero!
Dilley memes are the best! So clever! Ramen noodle hair, too funny! And that cute little cat….
Leftists can’t seem to make fun of themselves. I’ve never seen it on the political stage, nor among any that I am forced to associate with. It’s like a hallmark. That, and of course, the hypocrisy.
I’ve watched this little gem three times. Thanks for sharing!
More waste and fraud the Dims want…
And as the Dims,
And as the Dims,
And as the Dims go floundering down…
Pound the point – Schumer shutdown and the right of the executive branch to eliminate the fat due to it.
Interesting twist – a reminder that the continuing resolution is effectively the SAME budget that Dims voted for over a dozen times during the reign of the AutoPen…
The Bee on the sombrero controversy…
