Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought is meeting with President Trump today to discuss the facets of the government that will be closed and for the duration therein. Secretary Bessent is asked if the furloughs will be a long-term feature of the backfire created by the Democrat strategy.
Bessent reemphasizes he personally joined the Trump administration to shrink the scale of government spending, and the administration is not going to flinch on any CR agreement that backtracks on existing spending reductions. WATCH:

Possibly a small part of the tariffs are absorbed by the foreign manufacturers but the bulk of the tariff is paid by the American consumer. For example, a Toyota Land Cruiser that was $57,000 in March is now $70,000. Do you think Toyota can eat $10,000 to $13,000 a vehicle and stay in business?

In March, auto dealers are clearing their lots of last years’ models in preparation for this years’ newer model, hence the discounted price. The newer models arrive with the usual price increase in the fall. You are comparing discounted prices versus new premium prices.
A lot of these auto makers are now going to eat the 7,500 dollar subsidies they were giving for EV’s.

China’s exports to the United States are only 12-15% of their total exports. They can easily redirect most of that to Russia, Australia, Mexico and Europe.
Beans will be redirected to other markets willing to pay, including US pork consumers. The excess feed supply (since the soy was only going to China’s pork) will be used by US pork, lowering our prices. That’s what capitalism does, it efficiently reallocates capital, literally goods like soybeans. A central government like China cannot understand this and instead makes irrational immature decisions based on dictate.
If the shutdown goes on, in two weeks the troops won’t get paid. If in the Senate it takes a simple majority to suspend the rules, then Thune can do that again, as he did for the stalled nominations, and just roll over the Democrats. So the clock is running.

I come from a farming family and have farmed for years myself. Most people today haven’t the slightest clue what farming is all about. Farming has nothing to do with what so many think it is or could be.
I see people make statements about it and it seems they must live in a different planet.
They aren’t the salt of the earth everyone thinks. They are greedy and, in the South, load up on illegal labor so their profits can afford them the ability to send their kids to private schools and avoid the non-white majorities in many areas. They are hard-working people, but they also live that luxury. The gulf coast of Florida is full of vacation homes built buy farmers, builders and other MAGA voters who also game illegal labor and section 8. They think nothing of it. They earned it as far as their concerned. Someone else who busts their tail working for them isn’t given a second thought.

I never knew farmers had such wealth until I moved to Florida farmland and seen this first hand. I watch them plant and grow crops then leave them in the fields to die. Yes their kids all go to private schools , moms drive Escalades and the homes are not rundown farmhouses. My husband and I joke that we should have been farmers instead of military. The illegal labor is off the charts.
But, as a veteran, you get $3500+ per month in “VA Disability” payments (tax free) even when you’re working full-time, so there is that… You collect “Welfare” same as farmers.

Don’t our farmers need to diversify their crops? If Brazil or any other country can replace our supply, then that crop can’t be considered a reliable profit- generator. Ever relying on an agreement with an adversary seems to me to be hazardous to future profitability.
Furthermore, I’m sick of so much produce in the grocery store being from another country. I would pay a bit more for US produce because self-preservation requires our country to be able to feed our own population. I want to support the farmers but soybeans and non-edible corn aren’t one of my go to grocery needs.

I enjoyed the discussion until it turned to soybeans. They were originally grown to make cardboard boxes – not for food to give to animals and humans. Seems inappropriate for Bessent who has a soybean farm to promote them and whine about them not being bought by the Chinamen.

Soy is not digestible in the human gut. Over time, too much of it causes the human, and/or possibly the animal gut to turn into a sheet of concrete where it cannot absorb nutrients. This is just one thing that contributed to my Mother’s passing.
