Dems are insisting on bringing back the healthcare debate. The problem for them is that there are far to many people still around who remember what healthcare was like in America before the democrats “fixed” it the last time.
Any new healthcare agreement starts with the full and complete repeal of Obamacare. When the democrats agree to that, we can talk about the rest.
Before Obamacare, the system we remember was basically a tax on corporations to insure their employees. Obamacare made it a tax on the middle class. Republicans will never vote to saddle their corporate donors with the cost again. Nor will they make their insurance company donors or retirement plans who invest in them accept lower profits. Therefore, every word republicans in congress say about abolishing Obamacare is a lie. Both parties want the burden to fall on the middle class.
It was never a tax on corporations. It was a means to offer tax free compensation. It became a near requirement and still is by those seeking employment.
It was a way to attract employees. Savey recruits knew it was a way to amass tax free income and build savings. Others merely saw it as freebies
Either way it was a net gain for the employee and a wash for the employer. Until Obama care it was a net wash for corporations. Now it is a tax requiring employer and employee to buy protections they often don’t need.or want

That part of this discussion seems to be missing.
This was discussed here about a year ago. Or maybe it was his last term. If the gov comes to a halt the executive has pretty much free rein to appoint temporary leaders or fire leaders they no longer want. Then when they finally restart the gov the dems can counter the changes but obviously it’s gonna be harder for them as they’d be fighting an uphill battle.

From what I understand, hundreds of thousands agreed to a deferred resignation earlier this year for a future separation bonus instead of possibly being terminated without any compensation. He will now just accept their resignations.
I was under the impression that these gov workers were leaving as previously agreed and it had nothing to do with the shutdown.
Maybe I missed some judge’s ruling cancelling these agreements?

I could be wrong, but it seems logical that these 1000’s of resignations planned for 9/30/25 were employees who hadn’t already accepted Elon/DOGE’s offer (which I believe was 2 years’ salary to walk away).
I figured the employees’ motivation was they may lose their job with no bonus if the govt shutdown 10/1/25. Why else would the timing of their resignations be immediately before the shutdown?

If you are going to downsize government, it needs to be done legislatively and not with a single President doing it. The next President can just undo all of it and make the federal government even bigger than it is today. It’s not governing, it’s just click-bait.

The only services the government should ever provide are essential services, and the only people employed should be essential to the operating of the government.
Put the Dems in the position of arguing why the programs and people cut are essential to the functioning of the federal government. And not something that is more appropriately the responsibility of state or local governments, so these programs should be paid for with state or local taxes.

I don’t see how the courts jump in. They have no authority, granted in the U.S. Constitution, to spend U.S. government money. If the Congress doesn’t authorize it, the spending cannot take place. The Executive branch has a duty to spend ONLY what Congress has authorized.
That hasn’t stopped them thus far. It’ll just take longer.
I don’t see President Teump stopping. He’s had the bureaucracies aimed him via lawfare. I imagine he’d like to neuter them as much as possible.

Hope there’s eyes on the IC. From outside the system, there seems to be a lot of repetition jobs. Watchers watching watchers. Yet no one sees anything. Cut a lot of the jobs and fewer watchers are needed and might actually be effective.
Since our federal government has become a tool of the elites to destroy our individual rights and liberties a prolonged shut down is in the best interests of average citizens. The longer the shut down goes on the more clear it will become to citizens of just how unnecessary the federal government has become. As time passes and tasks that are essential become known then fund those groups. My guess is more than 60% of federal jobs can be eliminated permanently without any notice by We the People. Argentinian President Javier Milei has successfully done this for his country which is now thriving after decades of decline.
