That said, I hope they’re strategic about it from an economic standpoint. If 750,000 people hit the unemployment lines all at once, plus the 100,000 who took the buyout (those go into effect today, too), the economy will take a hit.
But we also have a wide open opportunity that might not come around again, so the better play might just be to swing the ax. Idk, lots of military vets work in the govt system.

Being a vet doesn’t mean they need to be doing an unneeded job. Any unneeded employee should be cut – this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
What they need to do is change civil service rules/benefits for all new hires. It is criminal that they get pensions and early retirement when most Americans have no pension and must work until they break or die. They should not be living better than taxpayers.
The “hit” to the economy will be short-lived…

Yesterday there were tweets/x’s going all over the place bantering a number of 300,000 federal employees stand to be laid off due to this recent government shutdown; yet, when people take the time to read the original comment he had made, he simply said to date, as of yesterday, already 300,000 federal employees have left their jobs, either by accepting the early resign furlough offer, regularly scheduled retirements or some who actually were fired and all of a sudden everyone expects, because they didn’t take the time to read source material, that a new round of 300,000+ layoffs are in the works.
There is no bluff, there is, however, people who live by headlines alone and when those headlines turn out to be nothing but emotion pills people blame the target of the fake news headline rather than their own inability to go past the headlines.
Yup, I see a lot of screenshots of tweets that say “BREAKING:” or “JUST IN:” and no link to an article, no sources cited. Lots of people spreading manure in a chase for internet clout.

We are on a tour of the Atlantic coast for various reasons, the main one being that, in our 70’s, there may not be much time left to visit e.g. the Bay of Fundy! 🙂
Of interest is the number of Canadian flags flying from houses, especially in rural areas, somewhat parallel with what one sees in rural America.
Canadian Broadcasting Company – a crypto-Communist outlet, like our Mainstream Media – carried news yesterday bewailing “TRUMP’S TARIFFS” (and it was always “Trump,” never “PRESIDENT Trump”) and how it was ruining Canadian businesses, especially “small business people.”
They had the usual weepy interview with a man, whose woodworking business was “suddenly hit by TRUMP’S TARIFFS” and finds the tariffs unfair, blah-blah-blah.
NO blame for the situation was laid upon the Communists in Ottawa, no truthful explanation for the situation: one was left with the impression that President TRUMP out of nowhere developed an idiopathic hatred of Canada and “for no reason” (as the kids would say, to increase the horror of it all) began laying unfair tariffs against Canada to ruin their businesses!
On the other hand, one American dollar now equals 1.40 Canadian! Very good for us!
However, gasoline is c. $7.00 a gallon!!!
I hope to make it back to Maine, before our rental car needs gas!

Thank you for the nice reply! Yes, we were somewhat astonished to see “Third Worlders” even on Prince Edward Island, working as cashiers, stock personnel, etc.
But I suppose, with “open” immigration, that we should not have been surprised. Minneapolis and other large cities in the U.S. have the same thing.

I have a few more minutes more than I thought I would have: I should mention that yesterday in Canada was a curiously phrased holiday: “National Truth and Reconciliation Day,” which sounded like the entire country was suddenly Catholic and was lining up for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (earlier know as Penance).
In fact, it was not too far away from “Confession” in the Catholic Church. The purpose was to atone in some way for how Canadian governments in the past forced Indigenous Tribes e.g. the Mohawks, to hand over their children to special boarding schools, where the children were indoctrinated against their own heritage, “cleansed” of being Mohawk so to speak.
We were surprised that such schools persisted into the 1990’s.

I hope it’s ok to post this Kim Komando Daily Tech Newsletter alert I received in today’s inbox. I have received a lot of spam lately that looks genuine lately.
TODAY’S TECH ALERT
Hi there,
I have to tell you that the National Security Agency (yes, that NSA) just put out a blunt warning about something you may have seen on your phone before. Pop-ups screaming, “Your phone is hacked!” or “Virus detected!”
Many of these aren’t just annoying, they’re active cyberattacks in progress.
Whether you’re using an iPhone or Android, the NSA says to assume any sketchy pop-up is malicious. And their advice? Not “Click here to learn more.” Not even “Close the window.”
They’re saying: “Forcibly close all applications.” In other words: Don’t just close the bad tab, shut down everything.
Think of it like pulling the emergency brake. Closing all your apps at once can stop malicious code that’s trying to sneak into your system in the background.
These fake virus alerts are designed to make you panic and act fast. That’s exactly what hackers want. This way, you’ll click a link, install a shady app, or worse, enter your personal info.
And once you do? Boom: spyware, stolen passwords, financial theft.
One post on Reddit said, “It looked so real, I nearly clicked before I caught myself.” Another shared, “My mom hit OK and ended up getting locked out of her phone.”
See a weird pop-up? Immediately close all apps. Don’t interact with any pop-ups.
Accidentally clicked something? Change your passwords, alert your bank and run a full security scan on your phone.
Update your software. Keep your phone’s OS and apps up to date. Updates patch holes hackers use.
Use official app stores only. Skip the shady download links and third-party app stores.
Tighten permissions. Turn off location services when you don’t need them. Don’t let random sites send you push notifications.
Reboot your phone weekly. A simple restart can knock out hidden spyware and make you a harder target.
The NSA’s warning is clear: Cybercriminals are targeting your phone. But with a few smart steps, you can shut them down before they get in.
They’re saying: “Forcibly close all applications.”
Noting that you have “Forcibly ” in quotation marks, may I ask whether they are actually using “forcibly” in this context?
The next sentence says: “In other words: Don’t just close the bad tab, shut down everything. ”
For me, I’m just going to quickly log off my iPhone by holding the 2 side buttons which give me the screen: “slide to power off”, which is the option I’ll do. That closes everything open down forcibly, and I think that’s what she’s saying to do. I wait about 10 seconds to power on again.
Suggest you wait at least 30 seconds before you reboot the phone to give all of the circuit components time to discharge all data…
If you wait only 10 seconds to reboot, you may be reloading corrupted data that didn’t have time to discharge.

Except I don’t believe anymore that weekly updates are just patching holes. I mean, there’s holes to patch – coding errors – EVERY week? Regularly? From now to eternity? I now believe, without any evidence, that the updates are also collecting user data. There’s just as much uploading as downloading going on.
Every once in a while, I click on the “more” in the definition describing the update before approving it. I concluded their coders aren’t as good as one might think. It’s like each new version is just one big beta test with their entire end users!! Absolutely screwing end users a long the way.
I have not seen these pop ups but being paranoid means I never “click” on anything. I will definitely use the advice to reboot my phone weekly.
I’ve been getting text and emails with perfect Logos from various entities. I hover over the email in the ‘From’ field, which absolutely is such a crazy email address that it confirms it’s a scam.
It never ceases to amaze me the lengths to which hackers/scammers go. I also try to be cautious about apps. Seems every entity and its brother in law has an app these days.
I know. Apparently many fall for the scams. In the last 4 months, I have received VCM re: my outstanding issues w/ IRS. It’s a scam and I block each number bur the keep coming in from new numbers. I love the caller id: US Gubmint. Many seniors get fearful and actually take the call and give up their money.

There have been 16 shutdowns since 1981, most of them under Reagan who was inclined to veto bills he didn’t like 7 times. The longest shutdown in history is 35 days under Trump of course in 2018 so it’s likely this one will go the distance.
Most of the impact of shutdowns has been legislated out over the years leaving the kabuki nature of shutdowns a shallow attempt to make the voters feel vicariously helpless and hostage via furloughed workers and suffer petty inconveniences like being unpaid.
Trump is working his “art” just like it says in his book. “Non-essential” means exactly that and Trump is inclined to fire them, bring back Musk and restart DOGE to fill the hole with AI.
Feds get a paid vacation. Never believe the whiners they march out in the media saying they are suffering.
Then there’s the essential workers they march out to say they are working for free – they get paid for all work as soon as the shutdown ends. They are just pissed because most feds get a free vacation and they have to show up and pretend to work for their pay.

Need to be able to see the “fine print” on the Medicaid Grant and ALL other State Grants sent to the State of NY by the Federal Government or any state for that matter in order to determine if the any of the Federal Grant money to a state is “spent illegally”.
CONGRESS adds to those grants details on how the money can be spent as well as contains reprogramming authorization language. ALL instructions written by the Executive Branch must comply with CONGRESSIONAL instructions …. i.e. the Executive cannot tack on language that contradicts Congressional language …. the Executive Branch has to SUE Congress to change the language … or … VETO the spending Authorization BILL before signing it into Law (the BILL becomes an ACT), to negotiate what instructions are to be included … otherwise it is going to be endless lawfare battles trying to prove Fraud, Waste and Abuse.
This is the basis for the law suits being conducted by the lawfare bunch to counter the “DOGE Cuts”.

Why do the hospitals have to accept non covered illegal immigrants patients with no means to pay?
Hospitals in California (and nationwide) must provide emergency medical screening and stabilizing treatment to anyone presenting at an emergency department, regardless of immigration status, ability to pay, or insurance coverage. This is enforced by the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), a federal law passed in 1986 as part of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA).
Why it applies to undocumented immigrants: EMTALA explicitly prohibits “patient dumping”—refusing care to stabilize someone in an emergency to avoid costs. It covers all individuals, including non-citizens and those without legal status, to prevent life-threatening delays. Hospitals that participate in Medicare (nearly all U.S. hospitals) must comply, or face fines up to $50,000 per violation, loss of Medicare funding, or civil lawsuits.Scope of care: This includes an initial screening exam and treatment to stabilize the condition (e.g., for heart attacks, severe injuries, active labor, or life-threatening illnesses). Once stabilized, the hospital can discharge or transfer the patient. It does not cover ongoing non-emergency care, but violations occur if hospitals delay screening to check status or payment.Payment and uncompensated care: For undocumented patients, federal reimbursements are limited. Emergency services may qualify for Emergency Medicaid (a narrow federal benefit under Title XIX of the Social Security Act), covering only acute conditions like labor/delivery or organ failure, if income-eligible (up to 138% of the federal poverty level). This reimbursed about $974 million nationwide in 2016 (0.2% of total Medicaid spending). However, much care remains uncompensated, leading to “charity care” burdens on hospitals—estimated at billions annually, though exact figures for undocumented patients are hard to isolate due to privacy rules against inquiring about status upfront.The definition of emergency and “life threatening” is defined but I doubt it is enforced.
However assuming ICE was there, and life saving care was given, then deportations began, the issue would be resolved and the ERs would be almost empty of illegals except in true emergencies.
It likely has to do with the fact that the STATES are locally responsible for Medicaid related services as well as for the operation of medical services within their borders. They receive Federal Grant Money that is marked for Medicaid use … along with detailed authorizations for use or redistribution of those funds.
State like CA, NY, ILL and others allow for the LEGAL use of medical services by illegal immigrants within their borders. Those states also “promise” compensation for the care rendered. (Ignore at this point that medicaid exists.)
Then, CONGRESS allocates Medicaid and OTHER Federal Funds to a State based on budgetary requests submitted via the Congressional Critters from that State.
Then, CONGRESS Authorizes a set amount of money to the STATE for Medicaid and other Funding Lines, and most importantly ADD Instructions (as well as authorizations) for the USE and Reallocation of those funds to other STATE Projects or EXPENSES.
The Executive Branch, packages the money into State Grants.
The STATE then allocates and spends the money either on the intended funded line … OR …. Reallocates money WITHIN the Reprogramming Authority written into the State Grant. This is the point where CA has stripped money away from intended project (i.e. the CA Rapid Rail Line) and sends to pay off the illegal immigrant MEDICAL BILLS, under the guise of health emergencies or some other concocted project.
Also, take note of ALL the legal battles being waged over the removal of special status for all the JoeBama declared “refugees” and DACA’s. These people have legal residency and thus a legal right to medicaid coverage.
When putting together the State’s FUNDING REQUEST for the Next Fiscal Year, illegal immigrant counts are used to pad funding requests for “EMTALA” use, “Emergency Medical Cases” as well as pad funding requests for the OTHER Projects used as cash cows to pay the medical bills.
PLUS, Counts of special category immigrants (Haitians, Venezuelans, Afghans, et al) are used to pad actual Medicaid Grants.
Same goes for: Public welfare assistance, public schooling funds, Social Security disability payouts, Social Security SSI, etc, etc.).
Then there is the skim off by the entities running the services and administration of all this money owned by friends and relatives of the politicians.
Why is this being allowed?

Absolutely. Actions and reforms many have been talking about since the Reagan Administration are happening quickly. Federal law enforcement is being revolutionized. Every week, successes are reported, mopping up crime we took for granted would always be with us. I do believe our privacy will be restored to us again.
Just a hunch, just an opinion, but have the sense that the Democrat cries for returning money to fund Medicare for illegal aliens, among other reasons the Democrat politicians are using, really are the cover stories for reopening the pipeline of NGO money back into the Democrat politician pockets.
Using the poor, the needy has always been the rally cry for Democrat grift fronts so have a hunch that the One Big Beautiful Bill which cut USAID and other NGO front group money operations must have nearly, if not actually, bankrupt the Democrat party.
