If you know someone well, then maybe body language can give clues to emotional reactions (although not necessarily what is prompting the emotion.) As an expat I was flying back to my apartment in Siberia. In business class I was one of the first to board, an hour before departure. My husband got the green light to board, but my ticket was flagged red and I was sent to the gate desk. I was told, with no reason, that I could not board the plane.
I showed my resident visa, my international address, my letter from the foreign minister saying that I could enter the country during Covid…but they did not want me to board the flight, and did not give me a reason.
