Spending bills originate in the House. Need to include Speakers Boehnor, Ryan, McCarthy, and Johnson when it comes to budgets.
Worst nightmare for Senate GOPe would be a Republican-controlled House restoring budget order. Senators would have to make tough votes on actual appropriations bills and then justify them during campaigns.
Most if not all of the spending bills have actually originated in the Senate since the last “regular order” spending bills were passed by the House under Bush II in late 2008. That is, they have been originating in the Senate since the “emergency” spending passed in the first year of Obama due to the financial crisis in 2008-9.
One of the tricks they play to get around the constitutional requirement that spending bills must originate in the House is for the House to pass some irrelevant nothing bill, maybe naming a park trail or changing an “and” to an “or” somewhere, and then sending it to the Senate with a proper House Bill number on it. Then the Senate dreams up their latest gigantic omnibus spending bill and they “amend” that House Bill, replacing the one page of nothing with their entire omnibus bill and then sending it back to the House pretending that it originated in the House. The House, which should have come up with regular order spending bills first, goes along with the pretense and passes it, maybe with some amendments here and there and then they do their conference committee and pass the final version of the “House Bill”. All a fraud and unconstitutional and it should be challenged by Johnson and company, but they are in on it and won’t. The proof they are in on it is the fact they did not even attempt to do regular order this year.

Sorry to say it, but spending bills, in truth, all bills excepting the renaming of Post Offices, et al, originate in lobbyist offices and then, with the use of extortion/bribery, are moved through the HOUSE of NO ethics, integrity, principle, morality, patriotism, but lots of criminality, which is otherwise known as the House of Representatives. No one actually knows who (other than themselves) they are supposed to represent, but they make lots of money doing it.

At the State and Local level, I think the school districts and Colleges are out of control with money for every little social program they can dream up and hire an administator to oversee.
The Federal money supposedly ‘given back’ to the State after DC takes its cut drives the economy of the whole county any more. It seems to flow through “Education” and “Law Enforcement”. Both of these entities are now almost exclusively “Social Programs” galore with administrators for government programs driving hugely bloated salaries for some people while regulating everyone else to death.
The government might not have money, but that is where the public comes in as the figurative ATM.
By picking our pockets in the form of taxes and fees, never mind debasing the currency via inflation government functionaries can launder near unlimited amounts of money.
The question is whether a revolution via tax revolt or hyperinflation via exponential currency debasement happens first. Worse case, we’ll end up with both.

I have a hard time believing Democrats are *that* suicidal. Public employees are, by-and-large, their voting base. Public employee unions launder millions in taxpayer dollars to Democrats each year. Plus, they lose tens of thousands of #resistance fighters.
I don’t mean to say Democrats are sane. These are the same people who think a man can turn himself into a woman with nothing more than clothes from the ladies’ dept, plastic surgery, and the power of their dreams….
But I do not see them wiping out so many of their shock troops over a CR that (disgustingly) CONTINUES BIDEN’S BUDGET.
For the GOP’s part, they should be passing an actual budget which fully implement DOGE followed by across the board 25-30% cuts to dept budgets. Instead, we’re going to get a CR which, I think, just continues the autopen budget for 7 weeks.

This crap pisses me off… I work for Homeland Security as an Inspector and I am deemed “Essential” so I need to continue coming into work, not being paid, while all the HR, Office Staff and other Non-Essential personnel get to stay home and possibly work other Jobs in the meantime to supplement income. Then when the shutdown ends, the same non-essential personnel get the same backpay as the Essential for the time they didn’t have to work. WTF!

For a little over a decade, I worked for the Federal government Dept of Agriculture in research. I learned over time that there was nothing that the Agricultural Research Service (ARS) worked on that State Universities couldn’t do, and often did do. Duplicative and unnecessary, it doesn’t need to be a government agency.
They should RIF the whole thing.

Because of all the vast nepotism inside the federal government, a complete shutdown of the federal government in Washington DC will probably only apparently affect about 500 extended families. Practically everybody in DC is related to everyone else on the government dole. Brothers, sisters, spouses, nieces, nephews, children, grandchildren, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins of the SAME FAMILIES are all federal employees.

The one thing I wish that President Trump would do is clearly explain our fiscal situation to the public. Not everyone would pay attention but at least some would.
The government is so deep in debt it has to borrow money just to pay the interest. If you had to borrow to pay your credit card minimum amount then it should be obvious that you are in deep trouble.
Paring the government back would be a good start. Begin with those who don’t even show up to work.
But weren’t the tarrifs supposed to give us a surplus fast? I remember PT saying the tarrifs would bring in “trillions” every month.

I remember vaguely, it might have been the last actual government shut down, when all the reporters were interviewing sad sack gov employees who would cry for the cameras “I have prescription medicines, if the government shut downs I have uncertainty! I might not have health care anymore”.
One after an other for the weeks buildup to the shut down.
It was comical. I couldn’t believe that people outside of DC actually were affected much by any shut down of services and actually cared.
Then there was covid, and the government said, “You peasants must shut down, we’re all in this together, you can do it!”
And all the cries of family business going out forever, of suicides, depression, kids missing prom and graduation ceremonies they worked their whole lives for… swept under the rug and ignored/silenced because “we’re all in this together”
I will never be able to have compassion for a crying gov employee again over “shut down” (which to my understanding means, take some time off and we’ll back pay in a couple weeks). How is the crying “shut down” ever effective now?

What ticks me off is that all those non essential workers in the past got furloughed. Oh they didn’t get paid… until they came back. So essential workers worked and got paid. The non essential got a vacation and came back to a delayed paycheck. You’d think that would cause people that were essential to resent those non essential… nope, they wanted to be them!
What is even worse is the furloughed workers crying poor, getting charity and then getting back pay. They end up better off then essential employees.
So my feeling is if you are non essential, you get fired!
