Other than the broad announcement to around 600 to 800 U.S. Generals and flag officers from around the world, no one is exactly sure why Secretary Pete Hegseth has requested they come to the U.S for a meeting.
According to reports from CNN and various news outlets, Secretary of the War Department, Pete Hegseth has sent a notice for all of them to travel back to the U.S. for a meeting in Virginia at the War Department’s Quantico facility.
WASHINGTON – Hundreds of US generals and admirals around the globe have been called to Virginia for a meeting with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth next Tuesday, several US officials told CNN, though the reason for the meeting is unclear.
The meeting is expected to be held at the military installation in Quantico, Virginia, multiple officials said, adding that no one seems to know what the meeting is about, including the general and flag officers themselves, or why it was suddenly added to the calendar.
One source familiar said they’d heard theories ranging from a group physical fitness test, to receiving a briefing on the state of the Defense Department, to a mass firing of officers, but regardless of the reason the sudden convening of so many senior military officers is highly unusual.
“It’s being referred to as the general squid games,” one official quipped. (read more)

That’s an amazing amount of brass to command a military that hasn’t won a war in quite awhile.

And who runs off at the mouth?
During WW2, the US had about 2000 flag officers and roughly 12 million people in uniform at the peak of 1945.
-So 1 general officer for every 6000 troops.
In 2025, the US has about 800 flag officers for roughly 2 million (active, reserves and Guard) people in uniform.
-So 1 general officer for every 2500 troops.
The US military could lose 200-300 flag officers (and reassign their staffs to combat related positions!) and probably not miss them.

We are seeing a large number of military scoffing, defying and speaking against their CIC 47 and Hegeseth. That was unheard of when I was on active duty for 21 years. The generals and admirals and sergeants major have allowed this to go on. This may be the purpose – to stop the malignant atmosphere.
Military has changed since Hubs ret in 80s from AF and then they had changed the Physical test for Women making it easier for them. Maybe its gone south so long its going to be a shock if thats what it is? Good news, and hopefully we see them come out of there committed and ordered to take a meat ax to their organizations.

During WWII we had about 1 general (or admiral) to 6,000 military personnel.
Now, about 1 to 1,400 personnel.
Some claims that systems are complex is part of the reason given.
Also we have large numbers of contractors that essentially are DOW personnel. Working on all manner of tech, etc.

The pieces are being laid for the biggest thing to ever happen. I think Hegseth is putting his soldiers in formation. If the military REALLY was about to try a former POTUS for treason, but didn’t want it getting out, what do you think a secretary of war would do in the lead-up? In my organization, meetings of all management are not used for disciplining a minority, but only to roll out new policies before the lower levels get involved, exert control, “be sure everyone is on the same page”.
This administration cancelled remote work for federal employees so appears to find value in “face-to-face”, might think the experience will reinforce command.
Wonder if they will do organizational trust exercises. See if the 2 star general will fall backward to be caught by the 1 star.
