A sniper positioned on an adjacent building, opened fire on Immigration and Customs Enforcement early this morning. However, apparently instead of hitting ICE agents, the gunman ended up hitting detainees within the building.

Federal officials returned fire from the ICE building toward the sniper. The sniper then died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to MEDIA REPORTS, “One person was killed and two more were injured in a shooting at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas, Texas, the morning of Sept. 24, officials said.
Officers responded to calls at about 6:40 a.m. local time and determined that a shooter fired at the ICE building from an adjacent building, the Dallas Police Department said in a statement. The suspected shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said. (more)

“Multiple” victims are dead, acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told ABC News, while Dallas police said one person was killed and two were hurt.

This morning just before 7am local time, an individual fired multiple rounds at a Dallas, Texas ICE facility, killing one, wounding several others, before taking his own life. FBI, DHS, ATF are on the ground with Dallas PD and state authorities.
While the investigation is ongoing, an initial review of the evidence shows an idealogical motive behind this attack (see photo below). One of the unspent shell casings recovered was engraved with the phrase “ANTI ICE.” More updates will be forthcoming.
These despicable, politically motivated attacks against law enforcement are not a one-off. We are only miles from Prarieland Texas where just two months ago an individual ambushed a separate ICE facility targeting their officers. It has to end and the FBI and our partners will lead the these investigative efforts to see to it that those who target our law enforcement are pursued and brought to the fullest extent of justice.

At 200 yds that is a real stretch with open sights. These are not typically fitted with optics. Exceptions for sure but not typically.

i am not an expert, but 30-06 at 200 yards is not difficult, and if your goal is terror only and not a specific target, just getting in the vicinity of a crowd of people is very easy.
There are reports that the rifle was only fitted with iron sights.
Two hundred yards on iron sights can be a more difficult shot.
With well-adjusted optics, that caliber, at that range, becomes a turkey shoot.

i can reach 200yds with my 308 without optics. hitting the target, different story, but i can get within a few feet. if that distance is full of targets, most shots will hit something.

1903 Springfield was the sniper rifle for US in WWII. Some were mounted with telescopic sights. The Army and Marines each had their version. They could use 5 round stripper clips like in photo. Out to several hundred yards this was a very capable rifle, still is.

200 yds w open sights is not a stretch. In the Marines we had to qualify out to 500 yds with M16 open sights.
