This afternoon, Utah prosecutors held a press conference saying they will seek the death penalty for Tyler Robinson, the suspect in conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination. During their remarks they revealed some of the evidence against him, including alleged text messages in which he appeared to confess to the crime. WATCH:

I watched both of those over the last couple of days plus another podcast where he was a guest. Let me say at the outset, that I own two .30-06 hunting rifles, so I a very familiar with the rifle, the various types of ammunition available for it, and what the rifle and cartridge can do in terms of damage to animal tissue. For many, many years it was the most common hunting rifle in North America, and it is still is immensely popular. I found his arguments compelling, as well as several of the comments posted in reply to his initial video. One was from a neurosurgeon. The Doc basically agreed with his hypothesis and concluded that Charlie didn’t suffer. However, at the end of the day, until an autopsy report is released, as well as the ATF’s forensic / ballistic findings, all of this is just conjecture or an educated guess.
i can’t imagine the damage done by a 3006. i’ve shot deer and know what it does. why an autopsy?
A 30.06 with a high grain bullet will make some deer flip right over and somersault.

Eh, if you stop and think, if this is a major conspiracy, they could have planned exactly everything that was written in those texts if A or B or C happened. Giving the other assailant a safe out.

I don’t know about that. 100 ft is a lot of work for me. 420 ft is pretty far. He has a 2K scope on that. That does make a difference.
I can shoot a nice grouping in an 8 inch ring at 100 yards with iron sights using my 30-30. It’s not that hard. Put on a nice scope and a 30.06, and I can triple the distance
My first shot with a 30/06 from a 100 yds was an inch to the right of my aim point. I have no special skill and it h a scope. I bought it at WalMart.

I’d bet you are correct in thinking he was aiming for a head shot and missed. I guess you could say he was “lucky” in that a bad shot still killed his target, but I doubt he’ll feel all that fortunate when he’s standing in front of the firing squad his “lucky” shot earned him.
That was an average to skilled hunter shot. Big game such as deer and elk are routinely harvested at that or longer ranges.

The formula for a right angle triangle is A squared plus B squared equals C squared. If A if 50 feet away and B is 100 feet vertical then C is about 112 feet of shot distance. Which is longer than either the horizontal or vertical distance.
we are talking about bullet fall in 100 yards . we are talking a fall of 3.6 inches at 100 yards on a level plane. if the elevation of target is 300 feet above you, or below you, it is closer to you on a level plane. but bullet fall is the same. this wouldn’t matter in the crime we are looking at. too close to matter.

A 2k scope is a a higher end scope and would have made that shot doable almost with eyes closed.

There is the theory that it was intended for the chest and the bullet bounced off Charlie’s body armor and took the trajectory up hitting the neck. Plausible. Then a Tuber I follow said he believed the shooter was intentionally going for the throat to silence Charlie’s voice. While that made me pause, and made it a sad thought to think about, I think the kid took the shot and to our horror made contact w/a grain of luck, so to speak. I so wish the bullet had missed, or hit Charlie’s arm, or leg.

Cover? Those texts were about 3 hours after the murder on Wednesday 9/10. Tyler wasn’t in custody until Thursday 9/11 about 10 pm. So more than 24 hours later.
They want to use the lover, though, and to go after him before they have all the evidence, they don’t want to lose him by his shutting his trap.

The defendant heard the charges and has been certified indigent by the judge and will have a court appointed lawyer. The next court appearance will be September 29 – 10 am.
I guess the parents do not want to assume the cost of his defense – they have two other sons to raise and educate and don’t want to lose their home to pay for lawyers when their son is so clearly guilty and living a deviant lifestyle.

They use no caps, no punctation, they spell however it sounds, lots of letters that mean something that they seem to know, but I have no idea.

To settle the mystery would require the State of Utah getting warrants for all the cellphones, computers and other devices of these people involved, never mind the physical hardware owned by the telecoms for the cellular SMS service and/or web hosts for the the discord servers the individuals communicated through.
If anything is off, disreprencies will show up somewhere in the metadata. So long as a chain of custody can be maintained for the data, it will have considerable weight as State’s evidence.

Perhaps the point is to force a change of venue such that no future appeal might be available to obstruct a conviction?
Defense attorneys would always claim that publicity tainted the trial and add another appeal cycle to this event.
So, it is perhaps smart to shorten the time to judgement by removing that appeal from the trial structure.

Those text messages don’t seem legit. I mean I have a 19 year old daughter and there is no one in her age group that texts in complete sentences with every word spelled out like that. This seems more like a cover to make it look like he acted alone.

I have never disagreed with that. I do think he is the shooter. I do think others had knowledge of his plans and/or cooperated with him.

Robinson sure knows quite a bit about the two pseudo suspects. I was mashing news sources at the time and I knew one suspect was an old guy. Didn’t know he was “crazy”, nor did anyone else just watching it unfold. Of course, after the fact we find out he is, indeed, crazy. The other suspect was pretty blacked out, and claiming he was grabbed because he was dressed like Robinson seems suspect (how would Robinson know that?). I doubt he was sticking around observing his handy work. And the media wasn’t releasing those details until much later.
I tend to think there is a lot of cover up play acting to create deniability going on. I’d go so far as to say that Robinson’s magnus opus to the Discord private group was to give them deniability as well. Interestingly, the harbinger type posts that showed up on social media prior to the event were taken down immediately after the murder. And, incidentally, that opens up those with knowledge of a felony of a federal crime called “Misprision of a Felony” The hardest threshold on that charge is showing purposeful concealment. Taking down those social media posts is just such an act.
There’s revelations to come…I’m almost sure of it.

Yup. I thought him posting ‘I’m sorry’ on Discord was very disingenuous, so that post was done for a specific reason. If that group was all haters, why would he be telling them he’s Sorry? If anything, he would be bragging to that group.
On the other hand, why would someone on the run from police be posting anything on social media? Police can track your phone. I guess he was so addicted to the ‘likes’ on social media that those ‘friends’ were worth the risk of getting caught.
