Letitia James’ lawyer, Abbe Lowell, shared the content of the letter with the media as both James and her legal representatives continue efforts to leverage media as a defensive strategy.

Ed Martin, the director of the Justice Department’s Weaponization Working Group, told James’ lawyer on Aug. 12 the Democrat would best serve the “good of the state and nation” by resigning and ending his probe into alleged paperwork discrepancies on her Brooklyn townhouse and a Virginia home.
“Her resignation from office would give the people of New York and America more peace than proceeding,” Martin wrote. “I would take this as an act of good faith.” (read more)
Martin’s investigation stems from a letter Federal Housing Finance Agency Director William Pulte sent to Attorney General Pam Bondi in April asking her to investigate and consider prosecuting James, alleging she had “falsified bank documents and property records.”
Pulte, whose agency regulates mortgage financiers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, cited “media reports” claiming James had falsely listed a Virginia home as her principal residence, and he suggested she may have been trying to avoid higher interest rates that often apply to second homes.
Director Pulte also accused James of lying in property records about the number of apartments in the Brooklyn townhouse she has owned since 2001.

I’m a retired litigator who interned at the DOJ. Get it right in the indictment or the defendant might get the charges dismissed. I assume Martin will file in VA, not NY, so as to get a not quite as biased judge and jury, but he will make sure it’s water-tight.
Trump’s lawyers have been very shrewd in following the letter of the law with Lawfare and investigations. This can appear to be slow-moving, but they want any appeal record to be clean, and the appellate courts not to be distracted by claims of Trump no obeying the law.

But if she is a state official, and NY passes a law providing for legal counsel for such an official, it’s done by state statute. I doubt the IRS would try to go after it.

Bragg knows he suppressed exculpatory evidence, namely the man who was once in charge of enforcing federal election regulations would have testified that Trump did not violate any of the FEC regulations in any of the payment to Stormy Daniels. This is reversible error.
Letitia James’ civil judgment is in no better shape than Bragg’s conviction. Federal banking regulations favor Trump’s position, and those regulations carry more weight than the opinions of James and Judge Engoron, who knows less about lending regulations that GOVERN BANKING INSTITUTIONS than James does. The regulations about valuing real estate used as collateral require a LICENSED APPRAISER to document the appraisal of the property in order to establish a FORCED SALE PRICE in case foreclosure has to be pursued to collect the loan balance. Numbers like real estate tax assessments and insurance company insured amounts have nothing to do with the applicable FEDERAL (FDIC/FEDERAL RESERVE) regulations that are also enforced by State Banking authorities when the state issues the bank’s charter.
One has to wonder just how trained professionals in the law yielded results like this, not to mention the incoherent prosecutions wrought by Jack Smith, who recently had to return the documents that were seized under search warrant and grand jury subpoena to Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Just what were all of these legal actions attempting to do, anyway? The people on the left and/or in the Democratic Party didn’t bat an eyelash with Smith indicted Trump for what amounted to a CONFIDENCE SCHEME to hijack the electoral vote. Terms like “deception,” “deceit,” “manipulation,” etc. were used to describe what Trump did, but the main statute he used to charge Trump was the Anti-KKK statute, 18 United States Code 241, while none of those actions appear in any of the elements of 18 USC 241, which is all about TERROIST-LIKE actions, all physical in nature. This statute just might be the world’s first Anti-Terrorism statute. None of the elements matches one thing Smith accused Trump of doing.
There isn’t much use bringing in 18 USC 1512, which has nothing to do with Joint Sessions of Congress which are largely CEREMONIAL in nature. Accusing someone of trying to obstruct or otherwise frustrate the actions of the Joint Sessions to count the Electoral vote by Congress didn’t read the Electoral Count Act. To charge Trump with obstructing that Congressional “proceeding” Smith would have to charge Trump with inciting the riot, which was about the only way to DELAY what happened. As it turned out, Biden was certified while it was still January 6th, just as NORM EISEN himself predicted in his brochure for States United.
One could say Smith charged Trump with ANYTHING BUT insurrection, which Democrats and the media still accuse him of plotting. Insurrection is covered under the statute the REBELLION AND INSURRECTION Act. Not only was Trump never charged and convicted of insurrection, but none of the 1,500 or so individuals convicted for lesser charges for actions on January 6th ever charged under that statute.
PDT was essentially convicted of Obeying the Law While Using Best Business Practices.
Witch Hochul admitted this was a One-Man Bill of Attainder -persecution, but promised not to use her magic new powers on any other developers, say, those who forgot to contribute to her campaign.
