Good job here by John Thune. Let President Trump work on the Russia-Ukraine problem and await his request for more legislative tools. A refreshing change in the Senate leadership approach.
WASHINGTON DC – Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Monday he would hold off on advancing a closely watched package of sanctions targeting Russia’s trading partners after President Donald Trump said he was prepared to act himself later this summer if Russian President Vladimir Putin doesn’t move toward a peace deal with Ukraine.
“It sounds like right now the president is going to attempt to do some of this on his own,” Thune told reporters. “If at some point the president concludes that it makes sense and adds value and leverage that he needs in those negotiations to move the bill, then we’ll do it. We’ll be ready to go.” (more)
Let Trump be Trump. He’s trying to stop this U.S/NATO proxy war, by cutting the Gordian knot in Ukraine.

I’d sure like to read the whole Bill that Lindsey and Dick Denang have put together. Me thinks there are a lot of hidden items buried within that would not go over well with most of us. But, of course those hidden gems might not be in the Bill yet, but would be inserted at the last moment before voting occurs.
Anywho….Glad Thune put it on hold for the time being!
Good news! Dealing with the inherited sneaky snake Mitch, was awful!
Next up, pull the swamp plug.
LG ….. what is this guy even about? I don’t understand his entire being.
War hawk
Weirdo
Who controls him?
The Bush Cartel with full co-operation from Communist China………..The NWO demands Russia’s demise or total capitulation to communism.
Russia has experience in dismantling communism; not building it.
God Help US
Trump let LGBTQA+ Lindsey front and center representing the Bush Cartel’s stance; Lindsey’s rein is about to end. IMHO
“front and center representing the Bush Cartel’s stance; Lindsey’s reign is about to end. IMHO”
I pray this is so…I way past sick and tired of that two faced snake grahamnesty
Lou Dobbs told us about him in 2020
Does anyone wonder the real reason why the DS hates Putin?
They are all wealthy because of Mr Sits To Pee.
The Ever Seeing Mirror controls the narcissistic L.G.
He never has a hair out of place and never met a camera he would make sweet music with.
Interesting …. makes one wonder if part of breaking the Gordian Knot now includes some level of cooperative behavior, at least, with “Leadership”of the House and Senate (Johnson and Thune).
Maybe parts of the RINO Wing of the Uni-Party have a level of fear related to loosing their phony-baloney jobs in 2026 as the democrats promise to put ALL “not LIKE them” against the wall.
Stephen Miller’s hand involved in this one.
There is likely an savory price involved but a welcome twist in the plot line for sure.
I.E. endorsements we are not going to like and more announcements from DoJ that will leave the faithful red faced.
The price paid to Govern and inch forward.
Suppose the RINOs believe the probability of a solution within 50 days is limited.
Thune is basically stating “The Prez has the lead on this. If markers aren’t met inside the 50 day window, then we will marshal legislation that makes things happen. ”
Well….what legislation? Requested by PDJT or orchestrated to meet Senate objectives?
Let’s hope Thune is making decisions in a principled way that sustains support for PDJT’s efforts to end this war without US boots on the ground – that, if it comes to pass, follow-on moves are requested by PDJT and not pushed by Senate schemers to undermine Presidential authority/stature.
Agreed … this is “hopefully” be a way to either solve the problem or legislatively maneuver around the money grubbing war hawks.
There seems to be 2-major implications here.
Thune and the “Graham Faction” may not be on “friendly terms” as Graham has completely sold his soul while Thune may still be at the “rental” stage.
…while in the large scheme of governance … There be an actual an even higher level of cooperation possible that was lacking in 2017-2020. Yet, it will still come at cost this likely to make many cringe when the bills are paid for cooperation.
I’m hoping (though, frankly, discounting heavily) the idea that Senate Republicans committed to backing PDJT is gaining traction – including, most especially, senior leadership; specifically, those on the SSIC.
Here we are with one of the most transparent Presidents in recent memory – but it’s still difficult to fathom what’s in play. Takes two to tango.
Imagine us out here without the time or understanding to make sense of it. We care and we feel. But mostly I rely on comment boards to keep me in the game. Quite often the article authors confuse and publish BS just to stay in the Game. At the Treehouse I sometimes struggle but I sense Truth more often.
Keeping yhe opposition guessing as to what is at play is part of the game—in DC, Ukraine, Russia, China, etc.
Trump has been doing it successfully a long time.
You hit the nail!…Undermining Trump is their/Uniparty’s agenda full stop. ALL for the sake of Communist China’s growing hold on the world.
Trump gave Lindsey the spotlight to divert the Uniparty’s shenanigans from himself…….Lindsey’s rein is over.
God Help US
Russia is dealing with Ukraine -a proxy of China/communism – only total submission will satisfy Russia. Russia is fighting Europe, US, and NATO’s control at their border.
I agree. Let the President be the President…. Congress doesn’t have a good record. First they have to do all the wrong things. I believe Winston Churchill had them figured out correctly.
Good news.
What the heck is wrong with SC?
Replace goober
Open primary and the need for election integrity and reform!
Pleasant surprise that Thune seems to be on board. With the shepherd (Mcturkey) gone, the sheep seem to be scattering. One eye open though.
I think that FP analysis over here is rather weak, to be honest. To be fair, however, one can’t get it right all the time. That being said, Trump is very poorly versed in FP, history and especially concerning modern history. Additionally, he seems to be painfully ignorant of the involvement of his own Executive branch in current events and – even worse – apparently listens to whimsical fantasies of whomever it is who tells him what he wants to hear, thus conflicting statements almost daily followed by asinine tweets.
Perhaps he genuinely means well, but that does not suffice. He is seemingly easily manipulated and has obviously not yet himself figured out how to remedy the train wreck that encompasses USFP. If there are doubts, then please consider the appointment of Rubio and what that actually symbolizes: An SIC insider who rubber stamped poor FP for years is now the SoS in a new administration which purportedly desires peace. It is absurd. There are no steps being made toward achieving this goal. Arming NATO in order to pressure Putin into peace? Yikes. The same goes for unilaterally bombing Iran and then demanding they come back to the negotiating table. There is little difference thus far between this administration and the last in terms of the enactment of FP and nothing being done to correct the loss of credibility.
Are you from CNN? Or do you manage “TheView”?
nobody votes for this guy, he’s a deep state plant, Epstein probably has files on him, it’s how they control people
agreed
So Trump called Zelensky and asked him if he sent Ukraine long range missiles, would they be able to hit Moscow. Putin is understanding what is going on here. Zelensky will use those missiles without hesitation. This is getting more serious.
MAGA!
👊👊❤️❤️🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🏻🙏🏻
Nothing will change until we stop giving Ukraine/ NATO ammo. Zelinsky does NOT WANT to negotiate. Doesn’t anyone get that by now…. even Trump doesn’t seem to get it (atleast publicly)!!!! No missles ammmo etc to Ukraine!!!! Only then will Zelinsky come to the negotiating table. !!!
Almost equal sides of the same coin. Yes, tails.
So you let Putin run his army up to the western border of Ukraine?
I’m not going to pretend I know anything about Thune but I’m thrilled he is behind our great president and stopped that disgusting warmonger(s) in there tracks!
Good job or awaiting a more weighty argument?
Color me with a cynical crayon.
It’s ALWAYS the weight of the argument.
