WASHINGTON DC – Senate Majority Leader John Thune said Monday he would hold off on advancing a closely watched package of sanctions targeting Russia’s trading partners after President Donald Trump said he was prepared to act himself later this summer if Russian President Vladimir Putin doesn’t move toward a peace deal with Ukraine.
“It sounds like right now the president is going to attempt to do some of this on his own,” Thune told reporters. “If at some point the president concludes that it makes sense and adds value and leverage that he needs in those negotiations to move the bill, then we’ll do it. I remember when he first ran for the Senate and he sounded so Conservative. I am not from South Dakota and had never heard of him before, but he sounded like such a breath of fresh air. Just the kind of person who might do great things. But then he got to Washington and the next thing you know he was one of the sour-faced gnomes always standing around Mitch when he was giving some press conference or whatever. He got bought by Mitch so fast it was like there must be two Thunes in the Senate.

Previously and for quite a while Mark Lynch has been in the race seemingly with some momentum. Is Bauer a splitter candidate hoping to reduce the capacity of the opposition to Graham to win the majority in the primary???
No on-the-ground knowledge on my part – but the timing of Bauer’s entry is suspicious. I have seen at least two races on my turf where the GOPe establishment prevailed due to the opposition being disunited by splitters.
