Musk’s plan is to focus on some key Congresser races so that they can throw a monkey wrench into legislation he doesn’t like. It’s already what big-money-recipient bought-off Republicans and Democrats do. Moreover, American Party candidates still will have to caucus one way or another for committee assignments.

Tesla may not be profitable without generous tax credits to boost sales. Is it possible Elon could go broke? SpaceX and XAi and Tesla robots will guarantee Elon Musk will only become richer and richer over time.

We’ve always had what seem to be fringe parties, Libertarian, Green, etc.
I’ve thought a lot about this because everyone likes to quote Washington who thought we shouldn’t have parties. The more you think about it the more you realize that certain factors were always going to go in together for more power, more likelihood of success, over time. Even if they didn’t all like all of the joint platform.
This working together effect is the opposite of what Musk is doing by splitting the party. He’s going backwards in that sense.
Fringe parties are vote splitters. We are not a parliamentary “coalition building” government structure , right now it’s 51/49 winner take all. And we can’t afford for our 51 to be split to 26/25. Every time we get a 3rd etc party, the worst outcome gets to win.
A parliamentarian system would be the worst of systems for the US. I think the Dems would like to see such a system due to the upside of small coalitions banding and controlling the outcome to the will of a minority.

I was young, but Perot sounded a lot like Trump to me. Bush sounded like the machine—full of electoral platitudes, but no real concern for–or understanding of–ordinary Americans.
