It occurred to me this morning that the “surgical” relatively small initial invasion of Iraq in April 2003 was perhaps deliberate so that the terrorists would have time to assemble and wreak havoc.

It was a glorious day, that day of the invasion of Baghdad, as I recall on April 8, 2003, watching statues of Saddam being toppled and that man using one of his shoes to hit Saddam’s picture on a wall. It looked like the good people of Iraq were celebrating the arrival of the American-led invasion.

I attended the Indian Wells speaker series event on January 28, 2004, when US Army General Tommy Franks spoke. He explained how he was instructed by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his team that they were going to go in with a “small” force. A wave of hilarity in the well-dressed audience ensued as General Franks expressed some anxiety about this approach, that wouldn’t we need a lot more people? Nope.

A neighbor of mine in Palm Desert was a specialist in making prostheses – a very nice guy but he really hated President George W. So this is my speculation: Perhaps the Invasion of Iraq in 2003 was deliberately under-weight and calculated to permit the “incursion” of terrorists – the “insurgency” – thus the need for the Green Zone, the need to bombard to hell all the buildings, like Saddam’s palaces. To create the need for more troops to be added in along with all the infrastructure required for the build-up of the invasion and then the “surge”.

They could go IN “small” to Iraq to “liberate” the people from Saddam Hussein but then proceed to create the greater need for MORE and MORE of everything. By December 2003, Saddam was found in his spider-hole; his two sons Qusay and Uday had already been killed in July 2003. The Iraqi people had indeed been liberated from the Hussein regime but now they were in the grip of more horrors of terrorism with the insurgency’s IED’s being a leading method of inflicting devastating suffering.

What if THIS is the template being contemplated for an invasion of Iran? Now are we going to be told that we have to go in there to round up all the Mullahs who won’t surrender and “help” the Iranian people but then follow the pattern of Iraq and make such a shambles of the place that the Iranian people become refugees in their own country and they are in day-to-day survival mode, not able to run and peacefully restore their own country after the time of the Mullahs.
