1) You’re increasing you commitment to defense spending to levels you should have spent 30 years ago. Maybe that’ll be enough, maybe not, but you need more up front to make up for the areas. A defense budget in 2035 won’t adequately defend Europe in 2026.
2) What’s the war in Ukraine all about, as far as NATO is concerned? Stopping Russian expansionism? How did cutting defense spending over 30 years, doing past strategically risky deals like natural gas with Russia, help contain Russia? And now you justify an endless war to stop Russia?
3) War is full of unintended consequences. If you can stop Russian now through a peace deal in, with both Russian and the Ukraine compromising their priorities, take the deal! THEN fund and improve NATO to contain Russia, and act smarter in your commercial deals, to contain Russian WITHOUT war. As long as NATO and European countries continue to unconditionally backstop the Ukraine, then it’s NATO responsible for continuing the war in Ukraine, not Russia.
4) America will not defend a Europe that won’t defend itself, or that is focused on unnecessary wars. Thousands are dying in Ukraine daily. It’ll be 10’s of 1000’s daily in Europe, if you don’t stop this war now. FOCUS ON PEACE.
