However, Trump’s emissary Steve Witkoff never stopped communicating with Iran on peace approach, and negotiated/coordinated a face-saving Iranian retaliation via a happy to oblige Qatar.
Iran retaliated against the USA support for Israel with a pre-planned attack on a U.S. base in Qatar, which was easily managed. Iran saves face against evil Trump. Meanwhile, loyal friend to Israel, Trump has facilitated the request of Bibi. Diplomacy now returns sans operational nuclear sites. No regime change. Prime Minister Netanyahu and Israeli lobbyist Mark Levin are furious.
All the pro-war Israel-First pundits who sold a narrative of Trump duping the Iranians were wrong. Trump never wanted the conflict escalation, nor did Trump pre-plan with Netanyahu to pretend diplomacy. Pure fantasy speculation. The prior diplomatic efforts between the USA and Iran were genuine from the Trump administration, despite the duplicity from the Iranian side.
In a weakened state the Iranian regime and the Israeli government are now directed to engage in “peace and harmony,” against the new backdrop of the nuclear sites out of commission. Trump’s out. We’re done.

I have a concern regarding what appears to be an unconstitutional act. Please listen before attacking me.
Have we not been upset with prior president’s taking liberties with their commander in chief designation to simply use weaponry to use against others?
Does it matter whether that action involves boots on the ground or not?
What will hinder any future president from engaging in similar or expanded behavior?
I think we can agree Bibi provoked this based on specious and similar arguments since the 90’s. But if we were to let this play out, and involve constitutional paths to be followed, would Israel have suffered a prolonged attack by missiles that would have outlasted the ability of fighters to take out drones or missiles to knock down these incoming missiles?

I agree. Legally, the POTUS is required to ask Congress for a declaration of war (Mark Levin rants notwithstanding). That’s what is in the Constitution and that’s the way the Executive branch acted until after WW2.
Does not mean the POTUS can’t take action when we are attacked but to take an offensive action, pre-meditated, is an act of war and is illegal under the US Constitution. The Founding Fathers were very dubious of an executive acting like a King.
However, that ship has long sailed, unfortunately. Pretty much every POTUS since FDR has bombed somebody. Truman and Johnson, in particular, should have been impeached but weren’t, setting precedent for unilateral executive behavior.
In this instance, POTUS Trump, however is morally justified to eliminate Islamic nuts from getting a nuke. In a perfect world, Trump would be impeached and completely acquitted in the Senate. Again, the impeachment ship has sailed in the United States. The Constitution is essentially meaningless and has been since Woodrow Wilson.
I think that the key lost detail, regarding the idea of the War Powers Act, is that that communications have become so swift, world wide, that the Founding Fathers didn’t (understandably) have the foresight to envision a Facebook world that rendered Congress too slow.
In the 18th century, the power to declare war was berthed with Congress, as it should be, as the shortest-termed elected representatives of the people. Letters took so long, that Congress had time to deliberate.
In today’s world, there is not sufficient time. There’s no way the the fractious Congress could analyze events fast enough to get ahead of the Facebook curve. If, due to modern communications speed, a quick act is needed to fulfill his/her sworn duties, a current president is hobbled, forever behind the speed of the battlefield.
A modern compromise is needed – hence the War Powers Act. It needed to be further refined into the Internet age.

I decline to believe that the signers of the Constitution would object to this action. The target was a regime trying to obtain the most fearsome of weapons after they had invaded the sovereign soil of the United States, horrifically wounded, maimed and killed thousands of our soldiers who were not on Iranian soil, have repeatedly threatened innocent American citizens in their own country and abroad, and most certainly could again try to obtain these weapons. Our confidence that they didn’t actually build nuclear weapons is not near as certain as portrayed.
This was an action painstakingly executed to spare life as much as possible, and did not impose suffering on the people of the target country. It sought no gain or spoil, nor did the strike seek to harm the ability of the targeted country to care for it’s people or engage in commerce necessary for their economy. In fact, the action is offering a path for the Iranian government to reengage with the world as a good neighbor and a productive society.
So, no, this was not even an act of war. If a congressional debate was required every time a weapon was fired, we would be defenseless and unable to preempt any hostile act against us. The Constitution is not a suicide pact, and we are not required to spill our own blood or suffer the grandstanding of pathetic politicians before we can act.

To your question, the President has the power to act in exigent circumstances. You can then argue how that is defined, but I can’t remember the last time a military action consisted of a single sortie. Maybe when Reagan bombed Libya.

Think of it like dropping the bomb on Hiroshima. The military speculated they would be fighting island to island for maybe years to beat Japan, and dropping the bomb forced surrender to prevent that, and tens of thousands more lives lost.
On Iran, with hindsight, we can see what they have done in the past 40+ years. Perhaps whacking them hard 40 years ago would have prevented so much bloodshed and loss of life since then. There has only been a ramping up of their ability to kill people through terrorism and lobbing missiles throughout the Middle East.
Perhaps someone speculated their chances to kill people or actually drag nations into a wider war would significantly increase if they had a nuke. Or other ME nations sought nukes as deterrence.

There is no evidence for this statement and it is in contradiction to PDJT own statements after the Israel attacks including his praise for Israel attacks plus he took credit for being a part of it. Furthermore his reference to the attacks on day 61 clearly showed the timing was intentional. Occam’s razor points toward PDJT and Bibi being in coordination on the timing of Israel’s attacks and USA attacks. The clearing of the way for the US bombers was obviously a necessity for PDJT to enter the war and that had to wait for Israel to gain control of the skies over Iran.

On the contrary, the fact that Israel attacked on day 61 and PDJT made a point of that fact pointed toward coordination of the attack timing. It isn’t that PDJT was holding pretend negotiations it is more likely that based on Mullahs stalling he expected them to not meet his deadline and he had everything ready to go. PDJT was aware, was not a stooge and was not a fool: he knew what to expect and he had a position for each situation. The operations entered into by Israel and the USA were not planned overnight and took a great deal of coordination and results on the ground to be successful.

My own view, based on past behavior is that if the Mullahs remain in power they will seek to continue their international proxy war against the USA and Israel and will seek nuclear and/or chemical weapons in the future again. This means all-out war, if you’re talking specifically about the Middle East, where there are literally trillions at stake. You can either say “yes, let’s do it” or “no, that’s too far”… that’s up to you… but there’s no Regime Change without all-out war. Sure, the CIA can overthrow some small Government in some corner of Europe… but that’s not this situation. And even all-out war does not guarantee a successful Regime Change, as we’ve seen.

President Trump has been quite consistent and unequivocal about preventing Iran from going nuclear. I suspect, with the regime being on a significant back foot due to what Israel has done to both Hamas and Hezbollah, they considered actually breaking out and restarting their weapons program. As opposed to the slow burn approach of incremental enrichment (with Bibi constantly crying wolf), while they had considerable conventional and asymmetric options in Hamas and Hezbollah.
Netanyahu likely sold this to Trump as an imminent threat, who told him: “you have to lay out the red carpet, and we’ll come in and deal with the hardened targets – but only after negotiations break down and the deadline is reached”. For Trump red lines are indeed red, and shall not be crossed (without severe consequence).
Economic security being national security is rational, even to many hardened ideologues, when pushed far enough. Trumps view, that every man has his price, is certainly logical. The Iranian regime understands this, so they put on their version of the panda mask, and attempt to appear rational while saving face internally.
The reality is, IMHO, that they’re buying time. And they believe that credit card has no limit, and they’ll never have to pay the bill. Because regardless of how much Israel pummels their security and military apparatus, they believe they’re spiritually on the right side of history. So until they’re hanging from a crane, their apocalyptic war machine will march on, long after Trump is gone. Put differently, they have no price, they can’t be bought.

This is Peace through Strength: if you cross American interests, we’ll violently reset the board (with minimal risk to ourselves).

Iran was weak, Russia or China was not coming to its aid. Israel didn’t really want to put troops on the ground for regime change. Trump told bibi that he wasn’t going any farther. So, voila a cease fire agreement and a cessation of the conflict. Great job by Trump.
