But to find another reason to justify a war, (retaliation) simply means to someone like myself, that our values are always for sale. I enlisted. Served in Desert Shield/Storm. Was aboard the Eisenhower. Didn’t see anything directly. Wasn’t really afraid anything would happen. But that’s the surface navy at the time. Iran has a much more interesting navy. Their sub-surface forces are kinda pathetic though. There would be losses on both sides in naval warfare but it would be tremendously skewed against Iran.
I don’t know what service my son would join… probably the navy because my oldest son did. Went subsurface. Smaller crew and tight rules. From someone deployed at the US base in Qatar or one similarly situated with whom I am very close: The families and DOD staff were all evacuated ~2 weeks ago. Troops have been moved to hotels throughout the areas in question (so no chance of a 1983 Beirut incident). The only staff left on the base is security.
