I would classify Chattanooga city as being purple, and probably getting more so, but the county exec is a Republican. Knoxville/Knox County is and always has been a Republican stronghold, in spite of the fact it is a “college town,” home of UT. Trump carried both in 2016, 2020, and 2024.

That judge owes the US taxpayers the expense of bringing Garcia back, conducting a trials (including all costs for the prosecution, for his public-defender, for the judge and court costs) and then the cost to deport him back to El Salvador after that is done. Because regardless of whether Garcia is convicted or not he is still an illegal alien with a standing deportation order.

“4 House Democrats traveled to El Salvador on Monday to pressure President Nayib Bukele and the Trump administration to release Kilmar Ábrego García” despite a federal court order protecting him from removal.
But after being denied access to Ábrego García during their visit, the lawmakers said they were now demanding the Trump administration produce “daily proof of life,” as well as access to counsel and his immediate release. “Since we were not able to get the answers we need today from the embassy, denied because it was not an official trip” .. They then said they wrote a letter “just as of 30 minutes ago” to Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanding daily proof of life for Mr. Ábrego García,” Yassamin Ansari of Arizona,one of the House Democrats who traveled to the Central American country, said at a press conference on that Monday afternoon. “And of course, finally, demanding his safe return home.”
The visit by the delegation was one week after Hollen’s Margarita visit, which by the way, came under scrutiny from Democrats and Garcia’s family’s legal team questioning whether it was a staged photo opportunity by the Bukele government. Reps. Robert Garcia of California, Maxwell Frost of Florida, Maxine Dexter of Oregon, and Ansari in their latest effort by Democrats to bring attention to Ábrego García’s case. It had some legal scholars say that brought the U.S. to the brink of a constitutional crisis. The Supreme Court ordered the federal government to ‘facilitate’ Ábrego García’s return to the United States”, but the Trump administration has declined to do so, citing lack of jurisdiction. The Democratic lawmakers say they requested an official congressional delegation (CODEL) to visit both men, but House Oversight Chair James Comer and Homeland Security Chair Mark Green, both Republicans, denied the request, citing costs and accusing Democrats of defending gang members. “No Democrat has been allowed to go [on official delegations],” Garcia said. “There have been CODELs that have just been Republican members of Congress only.”
Jennifer Vasquez Sura, the wife of Ábrego García, said in a statement that she was “deeply grateful” that four members of Congress had arrived in the country to push for her husband’s release from prison, and that she was concerned about his health. “Their presence sends a powerful message: The fight to bring Kilmar home isn’t over,” she said, adding, “We need Congress to keep showing up.”
Frost added that more lawmakers will be visiting El Salvador soon to keep a spotlight on the issue. “We’re not going to be the last members of Congress and senators that are here to make sure that he’s released,” he said. “The book is not closed on our Constitution and our laws—no matter what Donald Trump says.”

I don’t see any connection of the reported arrest in January 2025 to the Operation Fast & Furious gun-running scheme more than 15 years ago. In the recent case, guns were being trafficked within the US. In Fast & Furious, guns went into Mexico from the US.

What length prison term was our “Maryland Dad” facing in El Salvador? Was he due for release in 2-3 years where he would have been back in the USA within a day or 2? If he had had been released and bussed it on back here, the Dems and MSM would have latched onto him like grim death and we might NEVER have been rid of him or put him in jail.
I don’t believe he was brought back here unless the Trump Administration had it figured out it was a slam dunk to convict him. The money spent on incarceration has to be balanced out against the value of showing fence sitting Americans the Dem and MSM utter lack of interest in protecting US citizens AND children.

The indictment was filed in the Nashville Division, so the trial will be held there. Jury pool will likely be all the counties in that division.

But they got the indictment in Nashville through a grand jury pool. These are the counties in the Middle Tennessee district, Nashville Division:
Cannon, Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Houston, Humphreys, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Stewart, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson, and Wilson.
Davidson is Nashville’s county and the only one of those that went to Harris. I analyzed the 2024 vote for each county, and while Davidson went 62% for Harris, all of the other counties helped to offset that Nashville vote, with the result that Trump won all of the Nashville district counties by around 5,000 votes, roughly 450k to 445k.
So those freaking out about blue cities need to take a breath.

The feds also “over-charge,” putting in every possible offense, which often ensures a conviction on something.
