Every Memorial Day, I get introspective and, frankly, rather depressed. I don’t do the BBQ’s, parties, or drinking. You and this upbeat service today have lifted my spirits. It’s possible to be introspective AND happy.
As the sales were good this week, I’d purchased food for grilling. Wasn’t going to do that today, but now I think I will. It’s the first decent day we’ve had to do so in a long time, so it doesn’t make sense to postpone it “just because” I feel so solemn.
Those who sacrificed it all for us didn’t do so, so that we would be miserable and unhappy on the day of their remembrance. I probably won’t ever say “Happy Memorial Day” but I owe you a debt of gratitude for making me think, and changing the outlook for my day – perhaps every Memorial Day to come. 🙂

Some of the most beautiful places on earth, I was blessed to live during my own service a mere hour away from the final resting place of my favorite uncle’s favorite uncle, I was the first of the family to visit, though the grave as they all were were tended lovingly by local citizens who adopted them, my favorite Sunday drive for several years.

Thank you for your service, Marquis. All that serve greatly sacrifice, one way or the other. Women didn’t serve in my you, but as I age, I appreciate the service of my father in WW1 (his Purple Heart medal is stunningly beautiful) and my Dad (WWII B-25 Bomber Pilot awarded DFC). Neither ever talked about their service, but as I got older, I delved into research. I, and like I believe President Trump, put our warriors in a category of their own. Nothing comes close. I am so glad SoD Hegseth survived the enslaught and is standing tall.
PDJT sounded tired to me-and who could blame him. I was walking and listening so I couldn’t get a visual ref. Maybe it was just being solemn. The first three speakers were very strong. He mispronounced Thierry, and what I am assuming was Cantigny (at the end)-writers should make it easier on him-hesitant on DaNang (ironically) and stumbled over cryptologic when speaking of Shannon Kent. I hope he gets some rest in any case. I know I couldn’t keep up his pace and pray for him. I have two sons under his command.

Remembering. 4 uncles who fought in WWII, including 2 who survived Pearl Harbor, including Arthur who died at age 101 2 years ago, one who was a Seabee in the Pacific and Roland, who was 18 when he fought in the famous Elbe River battle…he celebrated his 99 birthday last week!
I hung out the American Flag this morning in memory of my uncles also. My Dad tried to enlist but was rejected. They saw service all over the world during and after the Second World War.
