Appearing on CNBC this morning, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent gives an outline of the discussions between the USA and China. Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held meetings with the Chinese delegation in Geneva, Switzerland this past weekend.
Pay attention to Secretary Bessent describing [05:40] how Chinese ‘overproduction’ is now reaching the shores of partnered nations, that is the element CTH previously outlined {SEE HERE}, which is a rather significant issue right now. The goods themselves are not ‘generic’ in nature, they are branded high-end products awaiting labeling and distribution once their component part of the global tariff is determined. This is part of the ‘urgency’ motive for Beijing to seek some understanding of the timeline.

China lies
Commies
They have a final solution for U S .
It was not weakness. It was malevolence.
That and millions of dollars the Biden’s got from the CCP.
When do we see the legal results of that act? Actions have consequences!
I fear it will be never. Or at least not on Earth.
Bondi
They will not do this even if they sign and say they will. We needed to and need to walk away. Trump has to get his reconciliation package across the finish line, I think this is why he is playing nice with the rinos. And now the commie dems are acting out at ICE facilities …hoping to kick the summer of love 2.0. God Bless PT and our country. Ohh and the USSC taking up activist judge nationwide injunctions/restraining orders. Congress will decide this if supremes pick wrongly.. coming this Thursday..at least arguments.. nothing going on said no one ever.
Why “Holy Smokes”?
Biden et fils and other members of his reprobate family were in China’s employ.
There was plenty of evidence to support it.
How can anyone be remotely surprised by this Bessent affirmation…
“Holy Smokes,” Eric…
Where have you been??
But, but, but….China’s a developing country doncha know, Betsy? The WTO told us so. /sarcasm off.
I really want JoeBama and his ilk to pay and pay dearly for what they have done during his “illegal term”.
I want to see Joe in a homeless shelter with Jill collecting aluminum cans and dumpster diving for food.
Let them feel the pain that so many legal Americans feel, especially our Veterans.
As Steppenwolf sang, “God Damn the pusher man!”
There has to be a reckoning, THOR.
For these crimes committed by the Bidens, but not the Bidens alone.
Makes one wonder how many Rs and Ds in Congress are guilty in even the smallest way.
Especially the Veterans is right. President Trump is working diligently on this as I’m sure you’ve seen. He knows.
Wow, I feel your pain.
Agreed. But I guess it is pretty unusual to actually say that kind of thing out loud (the Chinese as well as Bessent). Which, come to think of it, makes me wonder why the Chinese said it out loud. Maybe trying to butter us up? (“You despise Biden? Whoa, WE despise Biden! We have so much in common…”)
It extends way before biden’s usurpation of this gov’t…. for sure. Trump has been railing against “other nations ripping US off” literally for decades.
Trust, but verify.
Mistrust, and double verify.
.
They have masters.
WEF is a suicide pact for the West on behalf of China.
Run by The City.
Part of me wonders why? The US had their foot on their necks and has allowed them to fix their overstocking/warehousing issues. Why give them 90days to label and sell their backlog?
The other part of me understand the “always leave a cornered rat a way out” philosophy so I am willing to grab my popcorn and watch how things transpire
Bessent & Co are not stupid people.
And pray the way out for the rat, means it must pass through a sharp object barrier
Wrote and deleted several replies to that. So many come to mind of which probably none are appropriate. 😎
lol….
I myself don’t understand it either, and I couldn’t care less if people here call me a “concern troll.” I work in manufacturing, so I fortunately (or unfortunately) get a different perspective than most. I’m actually deeply disappointed that they have lifted the tariffs, and it makes me wonder what the end game is. Bessent said earlier that we don’t want a deep decoupling from China which is quite different than previous comments from Navarro and Trump. They only want to decouple from industries that overlap with national security. That’s a pretty disappointing statement to me. It’s becoming increasingly clear that the final tariffs are going to be fairly low, because if they’re not, the market will have a meltdown. The sad part about this is that these developments pretty much mark the end of any significant reshoring back to the United States. It won’t happen without protective tariffs in place.
I’ve had numerous people here argue with me that there has been substantial reshoring. This is simply not correct, and it truly disappoints me. Most of the investments you’re seeing tend to be for more labor intensive manufacturing, such as automobiles, heavy equipment, etc. The majority of moves in all other industries have been primarily “friendshoring,” which is essentially shifting production to a friendlier (and cheaper) Asian country. Nobody hates this more than I do, but it’s the reality we live in. The end of the tariffs won’t stop these developments, but it will slow them down. I keep praying that some day, our sleazy businesses will wake up, but it doesn’t appear to be happening anytime soon.
I feel for you. Totally and completely understand and respect your position. The only thing I would offer is that this but one round and I am willing to watch the whole bout.
“You can’t bring back American manufacturing right away.”
“Why aren’t we bringing back American manufacturing right away?”
You people need to need pick one. Trade with other countries is a necessity in the short term, hence the need for restructured deals, which is what all this is for. As we gear up with the over trillion dollars of investment into manufacturing (TMC, nearly every auto manufacturer, Apple, etc etc.), we need to settle trade deals in the meantime.
God, I wish more people really understood things, I really do.
What you’re saying sounds good on paper but doesn’t work in reality. Without tariff motivation, there will be no reshoring. These companies don’t want to leave China. They have to be forced, and they’ll be kicking and screaming on the way out. The only reason you’re even seeing some movement is to hedge against the perceived instability. This is primarily to other Asian countries. Those US deals you’re referencing, with the exception of some of the semiconductor developments, are what I would consider niche reshoring. They are limited in scope and do nothing to eliminate Asian dependence. There are few people who want to see American manufacturing dominance restored as much as I do. Unfortunately, a trade deal with China is not the way to do it.
They actually think the factories are built. Geeez.
I thought that was why one of the conditions of trade negotiations going forward with other China-Friendly countries like Vietnam, etc. was that any country pushing China made junk would not get a very friendly trade agreement or none at all.
The goal, I thought, was to bring industry back to the USA, not simply move it from China to another country/countries.
Your perspective is interesting and sobering.
Hopefully this is part of a longer strategy.
90 days further ‘delay’ to ‘ease the pain’…. does PJDT actually believe this is a step to change othe behavior of the CCP? I don’t.
Anybody know how early in the year orders for Christmas goods go out?
Never mind; Grok says it’s between January and June, with peak ordering NOW (March-May). Wonder if this is more to avoid unpopular Christmas problems here, or to stick China with even more abandoned goods if talks collapse in 90 days.
Sun Tzu wrote a maxim that seems like it was tailor made for PDJT — ‘Build your opponent a golden bridge to retreat across.’
I have no doubt the President is familiar with that passage.
What a mess to untangle. Human nature is fallen and will take advantage of others and cheat. Sadly much effort has to be expended to monitor and police these agreements. Glad we have someone in office that is not just ignoring these egregious practices. Wonder the total Biden payout is for ignoring our trade agreements…
Trade statustic of interest:
In 2010 (2024 $) CBP seized $271 million in counterfeit/piratical merchandise, mostly from China.
In 2024: $2.35 billion
and btw, trafficking in counterfeit goods is a felony under 18USC2320; prison and fines from $2 million on up. So how many cases were prosecuted? GROK says maybe 50 to 150. But reliable stats are not readily available . And of these cases, how much in penalties were collected ? Very little I would say.
So, let us not only look at what the Chinese are doing, but look at what we (US) are not doing.
The only thing I ever watch on Fox is Sunday Morning Futures.
Maria had on a freedom politician in hiding from Venezuela.
They noted the 25% additional tariff targeted toward anyone who does business with the communist government of Venezuela.
I wonder if China eliminating support for Maduro is a requirement of any possible deals with China?
he has such fabulous Posture. I wish he’d tell POTUS to stand up straight when walking lol …
granted
but he carries the enormous burdens of the planet on his shoulders
if any man deserves a pass…
Gal, you must be very young. When you get to a ‘certain age’. you are doing good to just be ABLE to walk, stooped or not. If you are lucky enough to live long enough, you will understand.
I watched President Trump climb the full air-stairs, with ease, into AF1 today going to the Middle East. He’s doing just fine!
I was thinking of Joe the whole time. Very Amusing, the difference.
not sure Night & Day is even appropriate…
He likely is carrying some considerable extra weight, that is not flesh.
You reach an age where arthritis has invaded your spine. Both x-rays and the loss of height show you the discs in-between vertebrae no longer cushion that spine.
Rounded shoulders and a stiffened spine from age no longer allow you to do as your mother directed, “Stand up straight.”
Potus’ shortened golf swing illustrates as well the effects of age. Bessent is 17 years younger than he.
Have mercy on us, you young folks. We’re doing the best we can.
Could these talking heads act more unimpressed than how they already do?
If they could get their sad long faces to look more glum and longer as they listen to the amazing progress this Admin is doing the janitor would be sweeping faces off the floor tonight.
I thought the CNBC boys were quite enthusiastic. It has been a few years since I have watched them and I saw immediately quite a difference.
What happened to influencing industry to return to the US?
Big promises, big bluster with big tariffs, then…walking it back to status quo globalism. Consider this a tacit admission that US industry is too hollowed out to restore now.
The Trump admin pattern is clear: Sensationalism keeping the populace preoccupied while the managed decline of the US continues, with the ballooning sovereign debt poised to pull it all down.
Joined by the depleting military unable to rebuild, bio-warfare democide staging the next deployment on Americans (sa-modRNA Replicon shots), the illegal immigrant flood that is here to stay, and the surveillance state being completed in preparation for the coming neo-feudal totalitarian vassal state under “multi-polar global governance”.
Are you sure you are in the right place?
He had too many windows open whilst he was commenting on Democrat Underground and failed to make sure he had the right page before typing. Go home, young man, go home. Sorry if I misgendered you…wait, no I’m not, novarnish is a coed username.
You be new here?
Every damm day with your ilk is “we’re DONE FOR’ … “THIS is THE END of US”… “See this; it’s over NOW”… “we’re OUT of options”… “this leadership LIES” … “NOTHING will EVER improve”… ad nauseum.
That thought process is not a ‘winning’ one.
Go figure!
If you’re not of this, the winning side (BTW it’s already been decided WE THE PEOPLE WIN)… go back to wherever you came from there is no quarter here in this place for you.
you may have missed the news that Trump has already garnered reshoring/reinvesting agreements to the tune of 5+ TRILLION $
you’re not privy to that info cause it’s not reported on ciann
Varnish, I don’t know where you have been the last four years, but you certainly haven’t been watching American politics. Biden did everything he could to ruin our country and did a great job of it. DJT has been in office almost four MONTHS, and you are making outrageous claims that he hasn’t done enough to reverse our slide into calamity.
The comic relief is that DJT successfully trolls you dims, and you fall for it EVERY time. It is disappointing and at the same time fascinating to me how you people continue to oppose every good action presented for your benefit if you think it might make DJT look good.
novarnish doesn’t write like a Democrat, but like an anti-globalist. I disagree with novarnish about there being no route to restoring industry in America. China cut their corporate tax rates to zero in 2017 when Trump cuts were tempting businesses, like Apple, were going to reestablish operations here. China outbid us.
The replies tell the story:
Rather than address the points raised by the poster, the tribe piles on with things like “are you sure you’re in the right place?”, “go home”, etc.
The ballooning sovereign debt alone will take the US down, and Trump & Congress are both continuing the doom loop trajectory.
That’s the main rail. And the MAGA cult willingly turns a blind eye to it. How easy it is for the Controllers to entertain with the laser dots on the floor.
The military has been depleting it’s formerly-dominating weapons tech for several years now (Ukraine, Israel, Yemen), it is super-expensive and slow to replace, and US science/industry have become too hollowed-out to modernize and rebuild to restore global dominance. Meanwhile, China and Russia are strengthening as the US continues to self-deplete.
DOGE is a trojan horse, claiming it’s purpose was to get the debt under control but ending up with only 2% total savings on the budget, while it’s decimation of the DoD Civilian workforce further hinders efforts to rebuild and modernize the US military, by loss of knowledge base, work overload, disruption, and destruction of trust and cohesion.
The apparent two-part bioweapon deployed on the US Bloc (covid + modRNA shots) continues to attrit the populace, and the next-level democide assault is being readied: So-called “self-amplifying” or sa-modRNA shots, aka Replicons. And RFK Jr. and MAHA are silent about this. Pay close attention: This is targeting the US Bloc only.
The 11 million or more mostly-low-skilled illegals intentionally flooded into the US by the elderpuppet administration are here to stay – deportations will not make a dent in the number, and are mainly theater with a secondary disruption effect.
The Big Brother surveillance state has been under construction since 9/11, it is reaching panopticon level, and Trump even has some of the tech titans doing this work in his inner circle.
Anyone can trace these trends into the future. The convergence within “multi-polar global governance” is not “Make America Great Again”. The tariffs walk-backs confirm that the globalist system is permanent. You can decide what to do with the information, or not.
Thanks for piling on. It confirmed something already suspected.
(PS – “novarnish” has nothing to do with gender identity – the comment on that is another reveal. Hint: “no varnish”, as in “unvarnished”. Get it?)
FDR’s State and Commerce Departments caused entire factories from various US manufacturers to be built in Russia (USSR_ after FDR recognized the Stalin regime in 1933. By that year, FDR and the people controlling him, had 7 years to:
(1). Built entire manufacturing facilities, including Ford’s Gorki plant, Caterpillar Tractors at Chelyabinsk, a copy of the Gary Indiana US Steel plant near Stalingrad, and several Dupont and Nitrogen Engineering plants for the mass production of the chemicals used in manufacturing gun powders, explosives, etc. These are just a few of many examples.
(2). Train the Russians to run all the factories and refineries, including how to change assembly procedures when changing from manufacturing tractors in Chelyabinsk to pouring out tanks, armored cars, military trucks, self-propelled guns, etc.
(3). Keep US trainers and engineers on-site until everyone certain Russians were capable of running the facilities.
It had to be done before World War II if Russia would survive the MEIN KAMPF Hitler plan to invade the Soviet Union, which, by then was on its back. In total, less than seven years. They had to mass electrify the place, too. General Electric did that. So, there’s no reason why we can’t reindustrialize. That doesn’t mean we will. Remember, this was done during the Great Depression, too. This was another example of exporting capital and jobs overseas, so they knew what they were doing with China. The main difference is China got consumer goods manufacturing, probably to grab foreign exchange and hollow us out at the same time. We don’t have to stay this way, but it could happen.

What makes you think industry is not coming back?
A heavy weight main card event: Art of the Deal vs Art of the Steal. Round 1 is in the books.
Its just hilarious to watch the Marxist media gnash their teeth at any potential positive economic developments announced. So many networks and sites are just beside themselves this morning, trying to find the words for dissent.
Some of the phrases this morning:
Trump whiffs!,
There’s no guarantees!
Trump Blinked Big Time!
Scant details shared!
I we could be a fly on the wall inside the offices of these viper dens we’d hear: “What the F**K are we supposed to do with this shit?”
Magalicious!
I’ll take seconds thank you!
🤐
😇
I just laugh and eat my eggs. https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/eggs-us
Yes! “Power! Unlimited Power!”
Sen. Rand Paul says “No” to this gift. It’s not constitutional and Congress is going to have to look at this matter. He said: “President Trump should say “no” to this extravagant gift. BTW: Rand say he will never, ever ride in this plane.
Also, he emphasizes that all tariffs are bad, bad, bad and only Free Trade is good, good, good. He reminds all Americans that ‘we the people’ will now have to pay more at WalMart because of Trump’s tariffs on China. (I don’t shop at WalMart, so I will be spared! LOL!!).
No wonder Sen. Paul never made it through the first steps of gaining in the Presidential Primary; he’s a libertarian idiot and I don’t care if he’s an eye surgeon! It’s obvious he cannot see further than his nose!
What a Maroon!
He showed off his stupidity tonight on Jesse Watters.
Muh Principles! (TM)
Massie and Paul mirror each other in their self-righteous hypocrisy!
Somebody is funding their political coffers; neither are independently wealthy.
I avoid Walmart. Rand is not speaking for me.
The left have no interest in real economics because they were griffting from our government. That is why they are screaming.
China press are rating the weekend as a big success for China. They got the tariffs removed for 90 days and they had to make no concessions. So they can keep doing what they were doing. Trump has caved in the entire trade tariffs except for the 10% base for the entire world. Scared the world with trade tariffs. Stocks sank big time. Rich friends complained to him. So now took them all off to raise the stock market and stabilize the economy. Meanwhile trade talks are ongoing but will we ever find out the full truth of these talks except for some US pleasant headlines (lies)..
Kind of like the Ukraine mineral deal that we know nothing about except some fake headlines. All I know is that as soon as the mineral deal was signed, the US increased military supplies to Ukraine. And now Trump is increasing military assistance almost back to Biden’s level now. Maybe Hidden in the agreement is US will supply military aid for a long long time as long as the war is ongoing. Thus Trump’s push for a rapid ceasefire.. Vietnam war had negotiations for over 4 years before a ceasefire came and the US gave up everything to the winners – North Vietnam and Russia.
This gives China more time to develop more trade with reliable trade partners which the US is no longer considered. The US will add tariffs or sanctions on a whim.
Currently countries like Japan are increasing their trade with China considered by Japan to be more reliable trade partner. China does not sanction on a whim, A number of meetings between China and Japan on more trade. And other countries doing the same.
China is continuing at now a more accelerated pace to reduce US trade and accelerate native currencies in trade.
At the end of 90 days China will have figured out more work arounds for any possible tariffs and sanctions. They will have planned to reduce US trade export from 15% to 12%. That 3% will go to Japan, South Korea, Russia, India, Brazil, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia – all reliable trade partners. Their goal is to reduce trade to the US to below 10% of their total trade as quick as possible.
For years China has been reducing % of exports going to US just like reducing US bond holdings, and USD holdings.
At the end of 90 days China will try to make almost no concessions and stall the process.
Newsflash: China lies about everything. They’re the paper dragon with all bluster.
They cannot replace the US, period. No other country has even close to the spending power of the US. Even China is a far distant second. If they think countries with economies in the gutter like Japan or Brazil are going to suddenly buy more Chinese junk, then they’re as stupid as many of us know they are.
What a ridiculous scenario – reducing trade to 12% to US.
You’re wrong about the tariffs.
They both reduced by the same amount, 115%. The US was at 145%, so still 30% tariff on China. Meanwhile China went down to 10% on US goods.
I used to worry that China could do us great harm if they simply called in our debt. Now, with PDJT at the helm, I just laugh at the notion.
Funny, that.
“No more pretending.”
The only good Communist remains a dead one. Just ask the several dozen million they slaughtered.
IMHO
Many have noted a difference, between 45 & 47.
Some attribute it to Butler, however I don’t think thats it.
During his Hiatus, PDJT realised that the POTUS is the most powerful man in the World,…NOT because the Constitution inbues him as CiC of the U.S. Military, but because it grants him Unequaled authority over TRADE; Specificly HE can detirmine which other countries products can be sold in the U.S. and at what price, thru that most beautiful of words, tariffs.
Sure, other countries have authority over THEIR markets, but its not the same; due to American Exceptionalism, we in the U.S., even under the worst of recessions, buy (per capita) WAY more stuff than countries witj much larger populations.
He doesn’t need to threaten to invade another country, like a father unhitching his belt buckle, all he needs to do is say “Hmm, lets take a pause, and look at our trade imbalance, shall we?”
And like teenagers hastily cleaning their rooms, countries rush to negotiate.
Two countries, mortal enemies (India/Pakistan) on the brink of war, and PDJT tells them “If you do, no trade for you!” and suddenly peace reigns supreme; THAT is power!
And it took a businessman patriot to see it, and figure out how to exploit it .
no soup for you, and You, and YOU!
😂 😂
Its like He has a vision for the world!
The scary part of the purchasing power accorded American Exceptionalism is the mounds of credit card debt that is customary for many to maintain a desired lifestyle.
Not unlike a rabid dog chasing the personal tail, the “Exceptionalism” of the American market is a self limiting entity.
In the case of China, their word is not their bond, it is a tactical strategy to buy time.
The Chinese culture doesn’t accept loss to an inferior civilization.
That is the unequivocal position of the Chinese.
They are the oldest civilization in the world, older than ancient Egypt.
That is quite conceited on their part.
Longevity does not make for a superior civilization. Superior values do.
Which the engineers of their Communist captivity have worked very hard to murder out of them.
I’ll give the Chinese credit, they’ve consistently outlasted conquerors and their impositions upon them for many centuries.
Eventually a better version of China will express itself and the world will be all the better for it.
Of course, but to the Eastern cultural mindset they are superior.
The Art of War is written by a Chinese philosopher warrior, for Chinese practitioners although the West has tried to adopt some of its principles it isn’t natural to the Western mind.
They maybe an old civilization but Western Civ through Christianity accelerated in leaps and bounds with a magnitude!
It’s Christianity itself that the Chinese fear most. Ironic that the further we get from the teaching of Christ in the New Testament, the stronger the godless Chinese seem to have become. We need a powerful resurgence in Christian
values and belief.
And it shows how honest China is and wants to be. Yaaa let’s trans-ship to other countries if a lower tariff. But wait I thought all the other bilaterals will prevent this. They will. So China is trying to make the US play whack a mole.
MAGA!
👊👊🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻
Huge inventories of big brand name apparel products waiting in warehouses till timing is right and now a 90 day pause. 🤔
I need some new clothes; Sure would be helpful to know what the original v. new brands are.
😉
China and the USA haven’t agreed to anything regarding tariffs and non tariff barriers. They only agreed to meet and talk.
The world over reacts.
Wrong. Though it may only be for 90 days at this point in time or until they agree to a deal before then – they agreed to reduce the current tariffs by 115% and are in fact talking at high levels now.
I have not heard much discussion of Scott Bessent’s close and profitable association with George Soros. Is there a good reason why not? Maybe when Mr. Bessent worked for Mr. Soros, Mr. Bessent was only following orders. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Bessent
It was discussed when he was first mentioned for the job he has. The viewpoints varied.
For myself, looked at it as a positive from the point of view that would rather have him as our financial hit man, then as Palataine’s or that of another enemy of the US, especially in light of the fact that we’re in the middle of a what is effectively a global financial war.
It was Bessent who recognized the situation that the Pound Sterling was in and shared with Soros…who gave permission to short.
He has more experience now and is protecting us…it seems to me.
China caved. They had no choice as we hold all of the cards. 40 Chinese banks failed LAST WEEK.
