Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced an Easter ceasefire of all hostilities in order to celebrate the holiest of Christian holy days. According to his announcement the ceasefire will last from 6 p.m. Moscow time (1500 GMT) on Saturday, to midnight (2100 GMT) Monday, following Easter Sunday.
“We assume that the Ukrainian side will follow our example. At the same time, our troops must be ready to repel possible violations of the truce and provocations from the enemy, any of its aggressive actions,” Putin said at a meeting with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov, in a video shared by the Kremlin’s Press Service. Whether the CIA, NATO and European control agents will also stop hostilities is an unknown. However, the move by Russia does appear to be an earnest show of good faith representative of the growing faith evident in the modern federation.
Russia has some of the most inspiring orthodox Christian churches in all of Eastern Europe, and they are being well attended and beautifully restored/maintained.

I was just in awe, how many years it took to paint every surface with intricate works. Wow, just wow. Watched it twice for the artwork the second time.

About 15 years ago I noticed our local classical music radio station purged its vocal works of Sacred Christian music. (this probably is connected with their partnership with NPR) Before that time, I observed that the new recordings of sacred classical music were coming out of Eastern Europe and Russia, not the US or Western Europe.
Now that breaks my heart. But I am not surprised.
WRR 101.1 out of Dallas is our 24 hour classical station. And they play sacred music and choral works intermittently through the day, including Sunday with one beautiful hour (at noon) of choral works from English Cathedrals, the best hour of my week.
I wonder if you could access this station?

The Hermitage or Winter Palace is about best museum in the world. They have a small room of all Leonardo da Vinci. The Summer Palace has marvelous gardens with fountains and water games for children that have been working simply by gravity for centuries. I would like to visit again.

Hah! I watched that movie in 1965 or ’66, I think, as a youngster in London, and learned for the first time about the Trans-Siberian railway. Then in 1970 a friend decided to recover from a disastrous romance by travelling across Canada by railway, thereby sowing the seed in my head that a trip round the world by train was possible!
It took until 2008 when I was 60 for all the stars to align so that my husband and I could actually fulfill my dream and take the time to meet so many wonderful folks in the two great cities of western Russia, as well as Ulaan Bator and Beijing, and places in between, before flying to San Francisco to travel first to Yellowstone (with my naturalised American brother and his wife) then back to an AmTrack southern circuit from the west to east coast of the USA, finally leaving for home from Toronto. Best trip ever! And eternal thanks to Jim from AmTrack for overseeing our USA arrangements!
My youngest daughter and her husband had a hankering to visit New York on the strength of our tales of 2008 (and how much it had changed since my first visit in 1970) to celebrate their 40th birthdays in 2020. Sadly, that was not to be. Yet….. How is New York nowadays?
And reading your positivity about your exciting new horizons reminded me of my shock, on that trip, of realising that where I stood in Berlin in 2008, people had been shot for crossing the wall only 21 years before…. and how we benefitted from the Olympics preparations in China in 2008 that made all the young Chinese want to practise the English they’d learned, with us.
And all those changes happening so fast in the world, then and now, make me hopeful that such openness can return again to humanity, maybe more quickly than we imagine, that we can re-learn your great President Reagan’s lesson of ‘trust but verify’, and really have a humanity re-set which rejects evil in every guise and welcomes the good in all peoples.

The Russians did indeed attack on Palm Sunday, with two heavy missiles but rather than a civilian target if was a big meeting celebrating some event for the Ukrainian Army 117th Brigade. Significant military casualties were caused with NATO CASEVAC helicopters ferrying wounded to Poland.
Rather than hold such an event well away from civilians and the front lines it was in a hotel in the center of Sumy, only 20 miles from the front. Basically a sitting duck with civilians as human shields.
There is a view that it was intentional, which given the PR generated around the world, does seem possible.

The Russians did indeed attack on Palm Sunday, with two heavy missiles but rather than a civilian target if was a big meeting celebrating some event for the Ukrainian Army 117th Brigade. Significant military casualties were caused with NATO CASEVAC helicopters ferrying wounded to Poland.
Rather than hold such an event well away from civilians and the front lines it was in a hotel in the center of Sumy, only 20 miles from the front. Basically a sitting duck with civilians as human shields.
There is a view that it was intentional, which given the PR generated around the world, does seem possible.

He really wasn’t “maneuvered and provoked.” He simply read the situation as EU/NATO had presented it to him. A very large force was clearly being built up on the border, and it didn’t take a crystal ball to understand what that meant. “The party who strikes first” has a natural advantage, and he decided wisely to take it. In the opening moves of the game, he executed a very successful deception that played upon what his opponents expected.
On day-one of the operation, Putin publicly announced to the world what the objectives of the “special military operation” were, and were not. And, in all this time and up to now, those objectives have not changed. Even as Russia fully accepted who its actual enemy actually was.
