The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has decided against joining any lawsuits targeting the tariffs put into place by President Trump, Commerce Secretary Lutnick and the National Economic Council. This is quite a new shift in tone from the generally hostile CoC.
In the background, the U.S. CoC has historically surveyed their corporate sponsors and conducts extensive polling on their interests as part of their decision-making process. Perhaps the CoC is starting to realize a larger American awakening of their long history selling out middle-America is too risky for them politically.
WASHINGTON DC – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has no immediate plans to join the growing number of lawsuits challenging President Donald Trump’s so-called Liberation Day tariffs, two people with direct knowledge of discussions confirmed to POLITICO.
The business group, one of the most influential trade associations in Washington, will instead focus on lobbying the Trump administration on the tariffs directly, said the people, who were granted anonymity to divulge sensitive and developing discussions.
[…] “While we believe that tariffs under [the International Emergency Economic Powers Act] are legally questionable, the president has other tools to impose similar tariffs that equally damage America’s Main Street Businesses,” the Chamber said in a statement to POLITICO. “The only way to provide immediate relief is for the Administration to pull back on these harmful tariffs.” (more)

Agree absolutely with R.A.T. and US CoC.
They’ve probably joined up with D Lawfare to tie up President Trump in court.
Worthless pricks.
I agree! In their US COC opinion it’s better use of their CoC money to do lawfare through the DemonRats. Plausible deniability so that 47 doesn’t put a target on CoC.
Oh, I’m sure they are on his list. That is why they are playing nice right now. I wonder how much tax payer money that corrupt organization gets annually? DOGE???
that’s a really good question hopefully doge will find out.
👍 👍 👍
I still remember the late great Lou Dobbs always calling these losers out.
So did Rush
The CoC was at the heart of the OFF-SHORING to CHINA Movement! Their constituent members stood to make TRILLIONS of dollars, as Sundance has pointed out on many prior occasions.
^^^^^^^ 10,000 thumbs up
“Perhaps the CoC is starting to realize a larger American awakening of their long history selling out middle-America is too risky for them politically.”
FDR, who was part of the Four-Hundred (the most eminent families in New York) fully realized that America really needed a strong, healthy, prosperous middle class; otherwise, those displaced from middle-class prosperity would come for the Four-Hundred with a Prussian vengeance.
Perhaps some of that wisdom is starting to get through to the CoC. Given the snarkiness in the CoC statement, however, more work needs doing.
I don’t believe you know what you’re talking about. FDR policies only dramatically lengthened the depression, he saddled us with parasitic Unions and let his staff be riddled with communists including his vice president and the architect of the United Nations.

I Know, Right? What the Fake?
When I have loose change, I have a tendency to try and spend my 10 cent dimes first – because they have FDR on them.
I would rather carry around five cent nickels because they have Jefferson on them. Even though two nickels are much heavier than a dime.
I wonder what the reason was for U.S. 10 cent pieces to be so small. Usually the larger the denomination, the larger the physical coin was.
From govmint on nickel/dime sizes.
https://www.govmint.com/coin-authority/post/why-is-the-dime-smaller-in-size-than-the-nickel-and-penny#:~:text=The%20original%20five%2Dcent%20coin,nickel%20alloy%20instead%20of%20silver.
Thank you
Dimes were initially 90% silver, 10% copper.
Nickels were (are still?) 1/4 nickel, 3/4 copper.
So dimes were small (not just in the US) because – back when coins were valued for their intrinsic metal content – they held more value even at the smaller size.
“Brother, can you spare a dime?”
The dime was very much associated with the Depression, wasn’t it?
But of course the Winged Liberty AKA Mercury dime which was minted in 1916 was in use all through the Depression, to be replaced by the FDR dime in 1945.
If you check dates on your change you can find some quarters and dimes worth extra in metals/collectable. Mostly metals.
Ever notice that you rarely find a quarter dated before 1965? That’s when the silver was taken off the quarter!
Drop a pre ’65 quarter on a counter/table, then a post ’65 and listen to the different sound!
“I would rather carry around five cent nickels because they have Jefferson on them. Even though two nickels are much heavier than a dime.”
In another, perhaps accidental nod to Jefferson is durability. The metallurgic properties of nickel make it substantially more wear resistant than other metals. Your nickle coin simply lasts longer. Take a look at the dates on a random sampling of nickels in your possession compared to all the other coins. The nickels will contain a much higher percentage of older coins. Often many decades older.
“The nickels will contain a much higher percentage of older coins”.
Of all the coins in circulation, the Jefferson nickel series is the only one where it would be possible to assemble a full collection of all the dates and mint marks from coins still in circulation.
AND, FDR “tweaked” TWEA in the Banking Relief Act, making ALL us citizens “enemies of the state “ TIL THIS VERY DAY! does that sound like “concern for a strong middle class”?
The specific concern of the Four Hundred with the middle class was presented as a counterpoint to Joseph Kennedy’s interests/activities as an unwelcomed Catholic outsider (and the formative effects on RFK Sr), as documented in Michael Knox Beran’s “The Last Patrician” about RFK Sr. To be certain, FDR did a lot of bad. The Four-Hundred point was just that, unlike today’s whore-politicians (Pelosi, Lizard Cheney, so many others) who made fortunes off a $35T debt and selling out the middle class to China, at least FDR had some baseline respect for the middle class (even if arguably self-serving).
Far from the gov’t workers’ unions and graduate student “unions” of today, those unions of the 1930s kept the Rockefellers and the Mellons of that era from working the commoner to death, giving him a path to middle-class existence and a decent life. Their progeny today are Teamsters and steelworkers who’d crawl over broken glass to vote Trump, and they will rebuild this country and its manufacturing base once PDJT and his wolverines succeed. Doing so will hair-lip Bain Capital Romney and certain groups known to disdain manual labor lest their cuticles subsequently need manicuring; too bad.
💯
FDR on Feb. 19, 1942 signed the EO that ordered the ‘mandatory’ evacuation of Japanese Americans from the West Coast, i.e. into internment camps. In May 1939 halfway through FDR’s presidency the Secretary of Treasury Henry Morgenthau went before the House Ways and Means Committee and admitted the New Deal was an abject failure. The economy recovered slower during the Great Depression than it did for any other economic crisis in America’s history. FDR was instrumental in the establishment of the UN.
Continue believing the myths of FDR. He is a stain on American history.
No they are keeping their powder dry.
They would need a collective moral conscience to come to that realization and they clearly have none… 100% focus on profit, grifting and free money at the expense of middle-class America
Temu is essentially dead since the tariffs. Good riddance.
In related news…
New 145% tariff on Chinese toys may cause retailer to change name:
TOYS “Я” US → Toys “Я” U.S. 🙂
Most of the globalists can see the writing on the wall. Temu etc is just one of several corporations that realized their time of bleeding America’s middle class is coming to an end. The big multinationals are screaming like a 5 y/o that had their cookies taken away. They’re not dumb just greedy
More $ and less bad P.R. from lobbying, and notice how they position themselves as representing main street businesses,…yeah, right!

I do not know what “Laowai” means . . .
but I do know that “Laogai” means the CCP equivalent of the gulag!

Trump Capitulates to Bondholders
4-17-25
APR 17, 2025
“…If Trump was serious about a populist economic revolution that destroys the unjust Bretton Woods financial architecture, he would grab these bankers by the scruff of the necks, jail them and cancel that $30 trillion they say we owe them. Before doing that he would stealthily fix the dollar to a basket of commodities, exit the IMF/World Bank/WTO matrix, call in any US gold reserves held by the Fed and ready the military for a possible strike on the City of London….”
https://open.substack.com/pub/deanhenderson/p/trump-capitulates-to-bondholders
The bond markets have turfed out more gubmints than howitzers & color revolutions combined.
One must traverse the minefield carefully because it isn’t PDJT they’re revolting against. It’s CONgress & their outright refusal to stop increasing the debt spending.
My take, Trump drives investors into 10yr treasuries with market swings then refinances the debt at close to zero saving trillions. That’s your strike point. Position for that, then kick back and enjoy the show. I guess to understand you need to know that treasuries operate opposite traditional assetts. The more people buy the ten year notes, the lower the yield rate. It goes down as more and more people buy in.
Are there gold reserves left? I’m thinking Fort Knox just stores boxes of paper IOUs.
Great question.
Hopefully we will find out sometime in this Administration.
One of the reasons Khaddafi in Libya was taken out because he wanted to go back onto a gold standard and form an alliance with other north African nations.
He was not an angel, but used enough of his countries resources to benefit the citizens of Libya so he could maintain his power.
As well as keep the multinational corporations from plundering Libya’s resources.
He built a fresh water delivery system to benefit his people, which was destroyed after his demise.
The MSM does not tell us of all those things.
Perhaps we should start a GoFundMe for digital billboards.
We need to make the leadership of the US Chamber of Greed famous for their activities.
Where they live.
Here in WNY, regular billboards cost about $4500/ month a few years ago.
IDK what the electronic digital ones cost.
Possibly, they realized that if we go socialist, the CoC would be vanquished.
They are subservient to the engineers of Socialism, by design.
WEF is a suicide pact for the West on behalf of China.
Led by The City.
I wonder if they have plans for managing the hoards of militant muslims they’ve invited in.
Maquis we all need to pass on this spot on message far and wide.
Howeva the Brits say it! 👏😎
“WEF is a suicide pact for the West on behalf of China”
During this Trump Era global psywar, I constantly experiment with different ways to frame screen world “happenings” and track which ones, over time, best map onto reality ie most mind clarifying; best predictive accuracy.
Consequently, as a personal mind experiment, Im asking myself what happens when some adjustments are made to the evocative observation
“WEF is a suicide pact for the West on behalf of China”.
Perhaps WEF doesn’t actually serve ” the West”?
Perhaps WEF doesn’t actually benignly align with “China”?
Inspired by Putin’s description of Slava Ukraini Western leaders as Vampires, I’m currently using Death Cultists rather than ” the West” and entertaining the possibility that “China” may actually be one of the Death Cult Vampires not-yet-dead victims
Perhaps Trumps America, and Putins Russia, despite being infested by domestic Death Cult Vampires and Renfields are resisting being sucked dry?
Perhaps, so is Xi, despite being the leader of a very different civilization?
Perhaps these leaders == a real version of the Anti Mordor Alliance which Tolkien described in his transcendently true fictional masterpiece, “Lord of the Rings”?
Why are all these “statements” being made to Politico?
I thought they receiving bribes from USAID to deny the 2020 election fraud.
PDJT has his ways.
“Play MAGA for me.”
Brilliant!
The Chamber Of Cockroaches should be dismantled.
The entire Communist Conspiracy should be rolled up and put down.
Does this mean that the US Chamber of Communists is now suddenly our friend?
Excuse me while I roll my eyes 👀
At least 10 revolutions worth!
No. They are bowing to the current winds but they haven’t read the writing on the wall. I don’t know that they ever will.
They don’t need a weatherman to tell which way the wind blows.
I can hear the comment on the CoC zoom call: Uh … wait a minute guys. We are already seeing massive new investment in US manufacturing beginning to roll in. If it keeps up at this pace, and the new manufacturing is scattered across the rust belt, the tariff protections may actually BENEFIT ALL our members by providing more Americans employed and with more money to spend on members’ products. Let’s sit tight for now and see how this plays out.
If self interest alone was their motivation, then yes, that would be plausible.
Yeah. More likely that they just haven’t received their orders yet.
Xi say: Laowai lie low!
“…the president has other tools to impose similar tariffs that equally damage America’s Main Street Businesses”
That’s some chutzpah right there.
Their specialty.
It’s so much chutzpah I’m verklempt!
Seems to me that the Federal Courts are the way to go to stop Trump. Some of this stuff could tie him up for a long time, long enough at least to get the democrats into control in the House. The GOP isn’t gonna do a thing to de-fang the federal courts. Not a thing. This stuff has them smiling ear to ear behind the curtain.
It’s funny too how all these groups with long term efforts to destroy America and the American way of life have suddenly found religion and are either quiet or actually pretending to be on the Trump Train. It’s 100% BS. From Big Tech, Big Banking, Big Corporations, Big Education, the GOP, yadda yadda. It’s all a big scam to just run the clock out so everything Trump is doing can be quickly undone in 2028. If none of this stuff is made lawful with legislation, it’s all pissing in the wind including all of the supposed “trillions” in US investments.
I do agree we need to put facts on the ground.
I don’t agree we have no hope of doing so.
They’re determined to have a stick measuring contest. Eventually Trump is going to show them his. They won’t like it, no no no.
COC has a long long way to go before the middle class America should ever trust them.
Who elects/controls who is in the COC? Can we clean house and re-install good people through a filter of MAGA minded, shrewd business folks?
Crooked bastards been selling us down the river for decades. Either our local Chambers are blind as a bat, or they are complicit
September 20, 2019: a full-page ad in the “Los Angeles Times” trumpeting the great advantages of the “Greater Bay Area” . . .
Hong Kong, where the American Chamber of Commerce had offices and many other American businesses had already set up offices to avail themselves of the advantages of the “Greater Bay Area”.
The Heritage Foundation was quoted in the ad as citing Hong Kong as the freest economy . . .
I don’t remember the American Chamber of Commerce or the Heritage Foundation having much to say about being part of the window dressing for this ploy to bring American businesses TO the “Greater Bay Area” where Hong Kong was the apparently the linch-pin in this scheme to do an end-run around President Trump’s trade policy at that time.
Hong Kong was still free during that summer of 2019 but it was also the 30th anniversary of the crackdown at Tiananmen Square; peaceful, solemn candlelight processions in the main thoroughfares of Hong Kong, as many as 800,000 people estimated in the procession. Then somewhere, the Antifa-style protestors showed up and began breaking storefront glass, lights, a whirlwind of violent behavior unlike that of the peaceful candlelight protestors. Jail. Parents, Grandparents worried. Then, after that, the program to really make Hong Kong part of the Mainland and everyone was to have an ID badge, even Xi showed off his new badge.
So, did the American Chamber of Commerce still keep their offices in Hong Kong, did we ever hear about what became of the “Greater Bay Area” and all the business that was to be lured to China through Hong Kong?
Did anyone respond to that ad and made the move to Hong Kong as a result?
Or did the entire “Greater Bay Area” idea just not pan out?
Meanwhile, something else was in the works: Wuhan.
We have defeated the COC after a long battle. Rejoice!
No. More of a false flag operation on their part.
Self actualization of the CoC is a wonderful thing. Neglect of small business over the past 4 years require them to step up!
Our dear senator has something up his sleeve. McConnell is behind this. jmo
Perhaps his aides. He’s the new Biden.
Repubics ride Potus’ coat tails to office and stab him by failing to support him. Everytime.
Old news for sure but never fails to rile me up.
They KNOW.
The first photo (the one above that of President Trump) is from 2012 – here is the caption I found after doing a Google image search. I had wanted to know where that photo was taken, because I wanted to know what that building was in the background with what looked like a ship anchor resting on a ledge – wondering what ship it was that the anchor was from and if there was a memorial for it – is that actually a building next door to the White House? I know, irrelevant to the topic being discussed – it just irks me that people like Tom Donilon and apparently a would-be Republican Presidential candidate (Pawlenty) can be ANYWHERE near the levers of power, grabbing hold of our republic that that ship, whose anchor rests there, was defending – that’s how the anchor is relevant, I would say!
From left, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Tom Donohue, former Minnesota Gov. and GOP presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty, and, Jeffrey Zients of the Office of Management and Budget, walk from the White House after a meeting with White House staff regarding the fiscal cliff, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, in Washington. “it just irks me that people like Tom Donilon”
oops – it just irks me, myself and I when people do that! Donohue, not Donilon! Correcting myself for the record
The is an unspoken Irony and truth in this article and it is contained in the words of the last paragraph of Sundance’s article.
From the article ….“…. the president has other tools to impose similar tariffs that equally damage America’s Main Street Businesses,” ……”.
The Irony …. The Chamber of Commerce by it’s charter is “supposed to be” a representative of the interests as well as growth within “Main Street Economy” both from a business and consumer point of view.
The Truth …. The Tariffs are seen by that same Main Street Economy as promising long term benefits to the business and consumers. So, not only are the voters waking up but so are the entities that actually make up the core of their membership.
So…..things are looking up, cooperation wise, over at the CoC ever since Ted Baxter departed the scene?
Well, well, well…is the Chamber of Compromise trying to play 3D chess against Trump?
(I can hate the CofC no less or no more than I already do.)
POTUS: “(powell) termination cannot come fast enough”
Perhaps the CoC smells the roses.
Try this formulation
A strong dollar makes our products and services more costly for international markets (and their products and services less costly). A weak dollar makes our products and services more affordable for the international market (and theirs more costly) .
If the Trump view is to make the U.S. a manufacturing powerhouse, selling that output internationally is made more attractive with a weak dollar and foreign made goodsare less attractive..
If the Biden view was to make the U.S. more dependent on other countries for manufactured items, the strong dollar was a principal factor and we were flooded with non-U.S. goods..
The Tariff jiu-jitsu is only part of the great reset.
President Trump needs the interest rates on 1 year T-bills to drastically plummet from 4% to 1% in order to cut the deficit and balance the budget.
Interest on the federal deficit is the biggest expense in the budget and the easiest one to fix when oil and inflation are low and dropping! Just get the interest rates DOWN and refinance the deficit!
Trump confident he’ll make tariff deal with EU, China amid Giorgia Meloni visit-
President Trump on Thursday predicted his administration would make a deal on trade with China and with the European Union amid tariff disputes.
The comments marked something of a shift in tone for Trump, who has in recent weeks insisted the European Union was formed for the purposes of hurting the United States and who has ratcheted up tariffs on China.
Trump hosted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the White House, a visit that administration officials said was planned before the president imposed blanket tariffs on imports. But trade was at the forefront of the meeting.
As Meloni arrived, Trump told reporters he was “very confident” he could reach a trade deal with the EU. Asked moments later during a lunch meeting about the prospect of a deal with China, which has been hit with 145 percent tariffs on its goods, Trump also sounded a note of optimism.
“We’re going to make a deal. I think we’re going to make a very good deal with China,” Trump said. “I think you will see we’ll make a very good deal with China.”
Trump also told reporters he thought the U.S. would have “very little problem making a deal with Europe or anybody else.”

On second thought from my previous post, the CofC is telegraphing through their silence that they are all in on the upcoming impeachment attempt of Trump.
Wasn’t that what Wuhan was about back in 2019 – a plan to keep President Trump from being reelected in 2020?
Maybe the Chamber will turn over a new leaf with Tom Donahue finally gone….it can’t be much worse.
Similar to Canada, EU, MX, and recently China, the CoC has to issue a murmur of protest and some half-hearted demands, in order to give the impression that they are independent, as they come to terms with the inevitable Trump world trade reset.
Putin’s got to be laughing his ass off at Trumps cunning.
Perhaps see the handwriting on the wall?
“Every nation that rose to world power did so by protecting and nurturing its manufacturing base – from Great Britain under the Acts of Navigation, to the United States from the Civil War to the Roaring Twenties, to Bismarck’s Germany before World War I, to postwar Japan, to China today. No nation rose to world power on free trade. From Britain after 1860 to America after 1960, free trade has been the policy of powers that put consumption before production, today before tomorrow.
The historical record is clear. Nations rise on economic nationalism. They descend on free trade. ”
Pat Buchanan. Suicide of a Superpower
Canada’s population of 40 million is about 1/10 the size of the United States and almost half of their exports to US are it’s natural resources like oil and timber. There’s no way that 40 million Canadians can consume the same amount of products as 400 million Americans.
As hedge fund CEO Bill Ackman, a strong financial supporter of President Trump, posted last week…
Lastly, we consider that:
(1) it does not make sense to expect balanced trade with countries that are smaller than us and that have fewer resources to spend on US goods, i.e., we will forever be buying more from Madagascar than they will buy from us,
https://x.com/BillAckman/status/1909313079130951801
“It does not make sense…… than they will buy from us.”
Why not?
BS. Every country in the world is smaller economically than the U.S. Does this mean we must run a trade deficit with everyone. Not only no, but hell no.
Be mindful of the Council On Foreign Relations orchestrated treason of NAFTA, WTO creation and when CFR China Lobbyist Clinton got them into the hated WTO.

The US Chamber of Chinese and Mexican Commerce.
The single most egregious thieves of American Jobs, Families, Value-Added, Communities and the American tax-base.
The partner-in-crime of drug infestation as hopelessness and desperation replaced American Optimism, American Pride.
Disgusting, selfish, soul-less creeps.
The USA has PAID tariffs on damned near everything it has ever exported. Insanely, it never returned the favor – until right now.
But, to hear these exporters whine, you’d think someone had stabbed them in the gut …
Time to get our bacon after 50 years of sloppin the hogs
They’re not LINCOLN Republicans
They are Lincoln Project, no doubt.
Chamber is a pay to play cabal like the eu.
Cynically, I wonder if the CoC presumes they’ll eventually get it all back through the doors that Voter ID would open to a soft totalitarianism and a more intimately controllable market…
“Speaking to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Albuquerque in 2001, George W. Bush declared that, as Mexico was a friend and neighbor, “It’s so important for us to tear down our barriers and walls that might separate Mexico from the United States.”
Bush succeeded. And during his tenure, millions from Mexico exploited his magnanimity to violate our laws, trample upon our sovereignty, walk into our country, and remain here.
In 2007, backed by John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Teddy Kennedy and Barack Obama, Bush backed amnesty for the 12 million people who had entered America illegally.
The nation thundered no. And Congress sustained the nation.”

If the Chamber is not launching a frontal-assault against Trump it is probably only so they can sneak in closer to him for a stab in the back.
The neocon organization, Heritage Foundation, has a paper, Project 2025.
Every item in there appears to be what Trump’s administration is conducting.
It’s disturbing that Trump appointed at least one Soros protégé in his cabinet.
China exports more value of goods to ASEAN countries alone than to our country.
The rest of the world, outside our directly controlled vassal colony states in Europe, Japan and Korea, are tired of our “rules based” world order and have developed work arounds.
The Russian Federation has used the problem of sanctions and mortal threat of military aggression designed to destroy their country and society, to build a sovereign, nationalist economy, growing ar 4% annum, and the strongest land military on earth.
They have achieved what I had hoped was Trumps’ goal. A national economy, based on productivity (not hedge funds, government subsidies and grants along with massive national debt) to gain soveteignity and dignity as a nation.
I’m keeping my powder dry, pray for the best, and be prepared for the worst.
One interesting connection I noticed (probably because I’ve been a member from 10/19/2001):
Melaleuca has manufactured it’s own pharmaceuticals in Utah and bypassed all the empty shelves in drugstores in the past when China’s products were re,pved die tp a yellowish mold. Weeks ago my first thought was how Melaleuca is already geared up to make certain pharmaceuticals and Frank is politically connected (he was publicly vilified by the Left when he was supporting Romney for President you may remember).
Frank L. VanderSloot is the founder and executive chairman of Melaleuca: The Wellness Company, and he served as Melaleuca’s CEO for 37 years. Since the late 1990s, Frank has served on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and he is a member of the Chamber’s Executive Committee.
right Chamber of Commerce-it’s OK for every country in the world to pile Tarrifs on the United States but it’s not OK for the United States to recoup. Is that your position?
Their lead lobbyist Paul Ryan has dedicated his life to kneecap President Trump from escalator day. If he is implementing a pause here only means they have other plans in the works!
