One thing that stood out was that Maher just doesn’t know or understand the person, Donald John Trump, fuhgettabout knowing or understanding President Trump!

I do not think there is any validity in thinking Maher is being intellectually honest when he lectures about civility and a desire to be part of the solution to ease TDS.

I listened yesterday… three times…I enjoyed it so much. It was accurate, very funny and very complimentary to Trump. Maher said he felt more comfortable with Pres Trump than he ever did with presidents Clinton or Obama. Wow. What a knockout to Obama.
What many people don’t realise is that getting into office is a numbers game. You have to convert people who won’t vote for you, into people who will. That’s it. It’s why Trump spends a vast amount of time doing rallies. Little by little he has changed many voters’ minds.
Maher gave his large audience of lefties permission to regard Trump as a sensible person. I loved the crack about ‘Glenda the good witch’.
I listened to the whole thing and I was expecting a lot of profanity and there wasn’t any only the off color name for the side room and I guess I missed what that room actually is. What is it used for? I am really immune to profanities because of my job…I probably know more profanity and euphemisms for profanities than usual so it just goes in one ear and out the other.
The commentary was ok, and good for him for going I guess, but I found my self thinking what a small person he is. He couldn’t be more than he was in terms of positive commentary as it might offend his supporters. He is a disappointing person. But worth listening to unless one slightly off color comment is offensive in some way.

I listened to his commentary and felt that Bill Maher basically walked away from that dinner realizing Trump wasn’t the cartoon villain he expected. He even said he found Trump to be a “normal guy” in person, not Satan incarnate like he’d been conditioned to think. It didn’t mean Maher agreed with him politically, but it was clear he was surprised by how ordinary and human Trump seemed during the dinner.
It’s a classic case of someone stepping outside their media bubble and finding the reality doesn’t fully match the rhetoric.
Maher’s dinner story is a textbook example of dismantling Saul Alinsky’s Rule #13: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”
That rule only works if people never meet the target. Once you humanize the “villain,” the whole strategy collapses. Maher didn’t change his politics, but by saying Trump wasn’t the devil, he short-circuited the demonization playbook. Just by telling a story that breaks the caricature, he undermines the polarization. That’s how you beat the tactic: expose people to the real person behind the propaganda.
Maher can be an interesting character. Check out the interview he had with Patrick ben David. Patrick bounced some questions back at him and Maher became visibly uncomfortable and dragged on his cigarette like an addict. As I recall his chumminess with the likes of Pelosi, it’s easy to picture his current moderation as a self-serving ploy. But maybe it isn’t.
Bill a Narcissistic A. He reminds me of that guy you really don’t want to talk to but have to. Blowhard, Bore, that is a few good terms for him.
He had a problem. Trump likely taped everything and if he made up too much stuff, Trump would nail him like he did with 60 minutes.

I think it was great that Kid Rock set this up, and Trump and Maher agreed to it. Even better that Maher (aqnd probably Trump) came away understanding that — despite all the ways they disagree — it is possible to have a respectful, enjoyable conversation with someone everyone around you (and your inner voice) says you are supposed to hate. Further, his statement about good things Trump has done — immigration, trans, DEI, cops getting morale back, NATO, etc. — needed to be said but far too many reject . Not much will come of it, but every little step that attempts to tone down the hate in an honest way is a good one.
Just don’t recall where Trump called Maher a Fascist or Hitler. Just trying to placate the haters. Everything earlier spoken just led the Left to believe the last sentences were just sarcasm. What a small man. Not gracious at all.
